First day on track is complete. Dinner at 7:30pm. Good day at the track. A bit hot but there was a decent breeze most of th e daY. Bumper cars. Oops I mean karting, yesterday was brutally hot. But the hard core guys put on a show. It was like watching a NASCAR event. A lot of bump drafting. The Ax throwing venue here would have been more sane. Seriously!

On track today we had we had some excitement. I think the guys were trying to wrack up early bonus points for the awards tomorrow

A few mechanical issues cropped up today as well even before we got out for the first session.

Then the air was very heavy I guess because it ripped off a couple front wings.

Ive never had that issue with my front clamshell wings.

Tall tales and story’s of driving heroics will commence later tonight. Stay tuned.

We did awards tonight since not all of us are staying for dinner on Sunday night. And the worthy winners were:

1) Mechanical Sympathy Award - to Jay for enduring a leaky caliper, have the rear caliper replaced with a Ford Mustang caliper, and still not making one run on track today. Our sympathy is with you.

2) Poo Came Out Award. To Kitcat for being the first Caterham to ever wear a diaper.

3) The Polisher Award. A matching set in red polyester of steering wheel cover, handbrake handle warmer and knob warmer. Seb was a worthy winner given his color coordination of red shoes, boots, underwear, gloves, car, handbag, luggage, etc.

4) the Best Directions in a moving vehicle. A reward for good driving. Blake was a worthy winner.

Just finished dinner and have returned to the hotel. Long day, hot in the sun but a great breeze blowing thru the garage made today seem way cooler than yesterday.

Fairly Uneventful day. A couple of off track excursion but nothing serious. I think both escaped being on video.

14 of us stayed for dinner and conversation was very varied. Great group of people.

Thunderbolt is a great track for our cars and everyone seemed to get comfortable and faster with each session.

I’ll post some pictures tomorrow after I get home. Tom

Since I have an hour or so before I have to leave for the airport, allow me.... :jester: Dan deserves an honorable mention for superior grass cutting abilities in a Westfield. He clearly learned at the knee of Shane.

Vovchandr was the mechanical failure of Sunday, really unlucky as he was doing quite well up until then, either a clutch throwout or release bearing. Either way it is engine out and I have a new temporary resident in my garage.

I think we all had a great time on Thunderbolt circuit. I prefer it personally as it is more challenging than the Lightning Circuit.

I do want to thank every one who attended and joined in the fun. It can only be a successful event when you have a great group of people and the members of the sevens community who attend make it that.

Mike our track photographer took some great group photos and a few solo photos yesterday. Give him a few weeks to sort them out and I will distribute the high quality versions by AWS link to those who participated plus add some here for the broader forum members to enjoy.

I want to thank you all for your sympathy and offers of assistance. I made it home without issues, except for a very loooong brake pedal as it unfortunately still had air in the system - and a bit of rain that was a nice brake (sic) from the sun and heat.

Presenting the trophy to my family only reinforced to them the geekiness of the 7s event and crew :jester:. They were disappointed for me but clearly loved the trophy, now unceremoniously displayed atop my tool box.

The car did not lose one drop of brake fluid on the way home. TK did not hook up my ebrake after reinstalling the caliper because it was a bear to get off and this way I won't have to do it when I replace the caliper. And this morning I had an aha! moment :banghead: . It only leaks when the ebrake is engaged. So this morning I checked it and zero drops after parking all night. I drove all the way down without issue, when I left the hotel after having the ebrake on all night is when the low fluid light came on. I likely could have confirmed this and perhaps driven my car! The whole time it was leaking on Saturday morning the ebrake was on, The only time I took it off was a momentary movement of it while we were troubleshooting.

Alas, that is in the past. New caliper being shipped out by Josh today and hopefully we will regroup in 2020!

Thank you to Mike and Tom for putting together an excellent and well organized event. Their efforts are much appreciated.

Connor and I had a wonderful time at our first Sevens event. We made new friends that share our affliction and had a lot of fun both on and off the track. Thanks to Tom and Croc for arranging everything.

I want to thank Croc for your hospitality of allowing my car to reside in the garage while I arrange getting it back home. It drastically helps navigate resolution to the unfortunate mechanical problem.

I also want to thank everybody involved in putting on this event, primary Tom and Mike but also the "hidden figures" who are involved a little more behind the scenes.

It was a pleasure to meet everybody and it made for a very memorable event.

Special shot out to my personal 1 woman pit crew of Paige and her "support vehicle", I likely wouldn't have made the event or gotten the car ready in time and definitely wouldn't have gotten back from the track if she didn't dedicate the time to come along  She also took a ~1056 pictures of everybody which will take me some time to edit, upload and share.

P.S. Croc, your little quip about her technically being faster around the track has resonated deep with and provided material for ball busting on the long drive back up. Well played, well played.

PS X2: I'll start uploading phone and other pictures throughout the week. Technical question to Croc or whoever. How do you get the pictures to not double up once uploaded? Do they have to go into our Album on the forum or is there another trick?

Thank you so much for putting up with a visitor on Saturday, asking questions and poking around. What a great group of people, driving great cars on a great racetrack.

Hope you can do this again next year.

Given Tom cut loose a little on the last session in the orange beastie, I suspect she was at least 10 seconds a lap quicker than you.

I figure if nothing else, that little bit of "oneupmanship" allows you some space to upgrade the car. Maybe she would like to drive it on track one day? Does that help? :jester:

The double up happens when you upload the image to the forum - it then appears as an attachment and as an inline photo with the text.

I don't upload. I use a free photo hosting site, Imgur, or if posting from my phone, Tapatalk. These keep the photos on their servers and not the USA7s server.

Hi Ed, it was great to meet you Saturday and allow you the chance to inspect the various cars and solutions to technical problems you are probably only just starting to think about. Hopefully, the session out on track with me gives you a taster for what our wonderful little cars can do. We look forward to having you join us driving when your build is complete. Hopefully you had a chance to connect with Graham during the day (FastG on the forum) as his build is using the same chassis that you are planning to use.

Cheers

mike
