My speedo cable connection has come unattached. See picture. The knurled female threaded part is supposed to screw onto the male threads coming out of the tranny housing, shown to the left in this picture. But - those male threads spin free, and slide in and out of the tranny housing. Advice anyone?

I'm not positive but I think there's supposed to be a snap-ring holding the male threaded part into the gearbox housing.

Its a T-9 gearbox for the record.

 

If its not the snap clip Bruce refers to, it could be your angle drive has broken. Refer here for some back ground and parts suppliers

You might want to use a GPS speedometer and cap or plug the drive mechanism. Always accurate, regardless of wheel/tire size or final drive ratio. Always dry too!

Second that after two failures and lot of grief I ditched the T9 angle drive and went with a GPS Speedo

And I'll triple that. Used a Speedhut GPS speedo and very happy with it.

On my track-only car I dont have a speedometer. If I get really curious, I take my Garmin GPS with me to remind me what RPM is 70 mph, etc.

 

I have a progressive series of shift lights that I depend on to decide when to shift, but watch the analog tach as well.

 

I couldn't function without the shift lights. They are bright enough that they reflect perfectly onto the top edge of my wind deflector so serve as a sort of poor-man's heads-up display. Very handy when racing, where looking down at the tach isn't always convenient.

In addition if you do go with the Speedhut GPS suggestion they can use CATERHAM on the face of the dial so it look similar to stock

Mike, you don’t need a speedometer. It would only scare you to know how fast you’re running. I’ve watched you run through the competition faster than a well-seasoned bowl of Cincinnati chili.:jester:

I was going to say - from speedo right-angled drives to Cincinnati chili and its effects. Never could have seen that coming.

 

Getting back to more mundane things, I think the problem I have is with the threaded part that sticks out of the tranny case, not the right-angle drive. I'll get the C-clip off and see if I can get that out. Will my tranny oil come pouring out when I do that?
