Want to try one on for fit

I'm considering purchasing a 7. I'm 6'2" and 225 lbs. I Really would like to sit in one. I've read all the other posts regarding fit. I live in Limerick, Pa. which is about 35 miles west of Phila.

Willing to travel to check one out. So if someone could help me out I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Welcome to USA7s!  The answer is you will fit something as I am chunkier than you and I fit my Caterham SV sized CSR.  The key variables will be more about:

1) shoe size - anything above size 10 makes a Caterham S3 pedal box too small

2) type of seat - the road style seats are more spacious than a fiberglass or carbon shell type.

I would offer my car but I am traveling constantly from now until the end of the year.  I suspect you will find the SV size more comfortable.  A Caterham SV is comparably sized to a Birkin XS or Stalker.  The Caterham S3 will be comparably sized to a regular Birkin or Westfield.

I think you need to meet Tom who is 30 miles away on the south side of Philly - he has both a Caterham S3 with regular leather touring seats and a Caterham SV with a carbon Tillett seat.  You can try both pedal boxes and decide what works - bring your driving shoes.   Tom @yellowss7 can we impose on you please?

cheers

mike

Thanks Mike for responding so fast. My foot size is 10 1/2 medium width. Looking for something for the road, want to hit some nice back country Pa roads.

Hi Charlie, I have a Superformance S1 you can come inspect. It’s a little bigger than a Caterham SV,” I’ve driven a few SV’s and fit fine.I’m in Ambler , Montgomery County, half hour from you. Let me know if you’re up for it. I’m retired so I have plenty of free time.. Steve

Shoes are cheap, and "driving shoes" make a shocking difference.  None of my street shoes are any good, but driving shoes / mocs are fantastic in the pedal box.

I have a S-3 and ware 10.5 medium shoes. I do not have a problem if I have appropriate shoes.  It takes some time to get used to it, but it wasn't a big deal to me.

I’ll check in with you when I get back.  Don’t mind me if I’m still singing. “It’s a small world after all”.

One week later and I still can't get that out of my head, Ha

  • 2 weeks later...

I am pretty close, right at the northwest edge of Philadelphia but I know for sure you will not fit in my 1959 Series 1 since I have an internal roll cage connected to the floor with side bars also. I am 5 ft. 10 in and 150 lb and it is tight. Watch your shoe size as well.My size 9 is just about max in my car but hope you find a newer version that will fit ok.

Charlie, @cjbnow that the holiday festivities are almost finished, let’s look for a dry warmish day over the next few weeks.  I need to get the SV out of the garage to get into it as it is under the S3 on the lift.  I’ll keep a watch on the weather and see if we can coordinate.  Tom

Thanks Tom, @yellowss7  I appreciate that. Does your S3 have a lowered drivers floor? Charlie
