Also need: a lightened flywheel for a STANDARD 8 1/2" diaphragm clutch - 6 bolt A stock Elan/Cortina/ Kent oil pan - baffled would be great Oil strainer and pick up pipe - inserts in the bottom of the block Thanks, Chris D Rochester NY
wdb
Oil pickup is available new, I believe I saw it at one of the English sites. There is also a pressure relief pipe (I think that's what it is); it can probably be recreated with steel brake line. Here's a picture of mine. toldfield
I got my lightweight flywheel from Dave Bean. I think I got the oil pickup and strainer there too. davebean.com tom

MV8
I've not seen a VC for this engine that was smooth on top (no ribs) before. Maybe it was machined to add lightness. You may need to mill for the standard, three ear oil fill cap or fill via a bolt-on, engine mounted breather canister (if there is no material inside to aid oil-air separation). A new steel pan and pickup could be made that addresses potential problems with ground clearance and armor at the front and bottom plus add baffling, a scraper flange, and trap doors around the pickup. Rail flanges can be cnc cut and provide a convenient straight edge for the sides. The tube for the oil relief valve helps to reduce oil air entrainment (whenever the valve happens to bypass). The pickup does not need to be spring loaded or have screened area up the sides which can pickup air. Edited February 4 by MV8
s2europa
That is a standard cam cover (other than the mods). There were three different cam covers. The early one with "Lotus" down the sides, this one (middle years) with Lotus over the chain cover, and later, the big valve cam cover that is ribbed down the sides and says "Lotus Big Valve" on the chain cover.

SENC
Don't forget that sumps, pickups, and, of course, flywheels differ between early "4-bolt" and later "6-bolt" engine blocks - I didn't notice mention of which you have.
Chris D
I'd prefer a 6 bolt but can machine a good 4. There's got to be some out there... same with the lower oil pick up parts. Leads appreciated. Thanks Chris D

SENC
6 bolt sumps are damned hard to find. I grabbed some photos of one I picked up a while back as a backup for my Elan. I need to find my records for when I bought it, but someone went to a lot of trouble to fabricate a nice baffle system and pickup. If memory serves correctly, I think I remember being told this is one Col Croucher (elantrikbits) made up. At any rate, I actually got another one as part of a parts buy (no pickup and I still need to refurbish it a bit), so I could probably be talked into letting this one go to help get a Seven on the road. If you don't turn one up and are interested in this one, let me know and I'll try to find records to see what I have in it.
