Help Needed - 7 Parts Available

My husband passed leaving a basement full of parts for a 7 build. Any takers or advice as to what I can do with them all at once? I am located in Maryland.

Firstly, my condolences. 

 

Unfortunately an arbitrary description will be a hard sell and more info and pictures will be needed. 

 

You will not need to know what they all are but ideally at least year of his 7 if he had one will be a good start and other paperwork that can lead to possibly us identifying what engine it had in it. 

 

Was it a Locost (self build frame and everything), an actual lotus 7? A Caterham? Other?

 

If you're not sure on what pricing of some of the things is people here can help you identify them and estimate worth. 

 

Depending exactly what he had a bulk purchase by one person might happen but it would need to be identifiable for people to know what they are traveling to get and price would need to be low enough to take on the risk of unknown parts from a seller with limited knowledge to the parts of their history.

If they are Lotus 7 parts (vs Caterham - or other), you might reach out to Ted Taylor.  He buys and resells parts for old Lotus, and is relatively close in Delaware, as I recall.  http://taylormadeclassiccars.com/parts/lotuschassistypeparts.html

 

I have no affiliation with Ted, but have bought a few used parts from him over the years.

I am sorry for your loss and I am hopeful that he is in a better place.

 

Based on the posting history of this user, your husband collected a wide variety of parts for a very very long time.  You should get someone in who knows what they're looking at. The above post might be a place to start.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the help. It was a Locost from my limited understanding but there are some actual Caterham parts in the collection. I brought everything up to the garage and took some photos. The car frame was at his workshop.I haven't been there in a while but I'll go by this week. I also haven't come across the engine I remember being in the car when it was mocked up. I'm less concerned about getting what the parts are worth as I am in finding them a new life. And having them all go at once is the ideal situation.

You may find more than just a chassis at his shop. I see by his earlier posts that he inquired about engines and may have bought seats plus other parts. Looks like some good good parts and a great start to a build.

Thank you for sharing. Seems like he had a good idea of what he wanted and got himself a very solid assembly of parts for his build. Lots of OEM Caterham parts or otherwise high end company parts. 

 

You're right parting this out would be extremely tedious. It might find a while to find a buyer for it all as one but if you're willing to sit on the parts right buyer will come along especially if you're being more than fair with the asking price. 

 

One caveat for you is, whether or not you care that the parts go to a "good home" to become complete or just a new life. If it's the latter, with a price too low you'll likely entice people who won't finish the build but will rather see the value of selling things off one by one for profit. End result is a second life for individual parts but not for the spirit of the project. 

 

I say that as somebody who sat for a long while on a not complete Locost project myself with slightly less parts and likely a less complete frame. Very hard to find a right buyer for something like this but they are out there.

Those wildwood brakes are not cheap. Lot of premium parts here for a person to get a new vehicle.
