Could you possibly make it dark black and add the roll bar? I think the black would cut through nicer with the overlap.

I can dig it though so far.

I see you've done the lower mount 5 3/4 headlights :classic_laugh:

With my limited skills and tools, changing the color requires a lot of work.  This is all done in powerpoint and using some lightly cleaned up images found on the web.  This is why we either need something created correctly by a graphic artist or cleaned up by one afterwards.  That is also necessary to ensure it prints okay on various background colors.

I removed the rollbar from the original image as I thought it was overly busy, and I wanted the Seven element to be more abstract than literal.  See below.

@Slonie I like the play on fonts in some of your drafts pile. Are those published fonts, or did you create those?

Thanks! It's a mixture. The Helvetica and Eurostile (favorite of Lotus later on) and Microgramma ones are stock fonts...

And these ones started off inspired by New Zelek but were significantly modified:

New Zelek would look like this without any tweaks.

1970s and 80s designers loved to use New Zelek as a jumping off point for logos and I'm no different...

I like the style on the first one (top left) ^ with the overlap.

That idea applied to my further iteration might end up looking something like this (un-italicized the 7 too, and rebalanced the size of the car)

The challenge with adding the silhouette to the left is that it becomes pretty small and can be a little hard to discern when the logo is sized to fit at the top of the forum as seen in the comparison below.  Changing the outline from gray to black, however, might make that acceptable.

I think @Slonie silhouette is better there as it's a bolder line. It will pop

I prefer the simplicity of this one.  It just needs some color.

This is why I removed the roll bar and shortened the windscreen. I couldn't find a way for it not to interfere and take over as the primary part of the graphic, rather than have it remain as the supporting piece.  I have no idea if it would work -- and it's waaaay beyond anything I could even attempt -- but having the letters make up the shape of the car like the WSU logo below might be interesting.

Oh believe me I went down this path a bit but balancing readability with pleasing aesthetics is a bastard. Might noodle on it more later. I have plenty of practice from another design I did. Getting this one to look right is real hard though

Whether silhouette or front-on, I prefer the minimalist approach.  Headlights are part of the distinctiveness, to me, and worth the extra busy-ness - rollbars not as much (IMO).

@JohnCh, Your concern over the style of 7 used seems odd to me. Looking at the original 7-7-7 event logo I’d say that ship has sailed. The 7 with the dragon tail clearly is based on that used by Caterham. Hell, how many none Caterham owners have placed a similar styled 7 in the nose of their none Caterham cars?

I’ve been involved with companies and clubs during logo creation or changeover. There are some basic dos and don’ts. Simple and clean where less is more is the best approach. As you state, think about how hard it would be for stitching or iron on transfers for T’s and caps.

As far as colours go you don’t need to use the red white and blue theme as that is made clear by clubs name.

The 20th anniversary is called China. The gem stone is Emerald and the colours are green and/or yellow depending on which site you read. (Hmmm, isn’t that interesting…)

I’m no graphic wiz so I’ve not done a visual yet. My idea is similar to many shown however; where mine differs is having the last part of the “A” of the USA and the little “s” flow slightly over the larger 7.

I’d stay away from the car image. Other clubs, most notably the UK’s Caterham and Lotus 7 Club and the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs to name two have used it for decades. It’ll be hard to match those. However, if you really what the 7 car outline then go with the one that has the least amount of detail. I’d also raise it up into the USA more. You might think about using the “flip image colour” trick I used on my Moto Star helmet back in the 70’s. I attached images showing how used the divide between two colours to highlight my name. The rear image of the helmet is included because I know you guys would ask to see it. ;)

I don't want to use an exact copy of the Caterham shaped 7.  Period.  As seen in images posted thus far, there are many other options. I don't see why we can't be more original rather than derivative, and not subliminally advocating for one brand.  You are welcomed to disagree, and to publicly share that opinion, but as the person who donates their time to keep the forum running, I feel I've earned the right not to care :D

I like any of the above that are Red , White and Blue. And as long as I’ve been a member ( 18 years), this has been all Sevens welcome, not a Caterham only club..
