Anyone have a SV with a lowered floor that wouldn't mind letting me sit in it? 6'4, so I'm trying to work out fitment before I buy.

I have an SV with lowered floors and a tall roll cage.  Former owner was 6’8”.   You will fit with no problem.

New member, pending schedule I plan to attend. I used to attend the vintage motorcycle races, been a few years since Ive been down. Anyone have a SV with a lowered floor that wouldn't mind letting me sit in it? 6'4, so I'm trying to work out fitment before I buy.

Yes - I have two you can sit in located in Millville NJ.  One with Tillet B6 XL seats and one with Caterham style Tillets.

You will fit in both.  I have had a 6'8" person in my SVs.  Just have to work out roll bar solutions for height and whether you have a shoe size issue re pedals.

Excellent, thanks gents.

@Vulin23 I have a 2023 caterham sv with leather seats. Non lowered floors but you are welcome to sit in that for reference. I am 5’10” and just clear the broomstick test with helmet. I have spacer and sliders on the seats.

Oh no. 😱. Not Mallocks.   😝. Hi Steve 😜

Hey, I resemble that remark!!  😊😊

Finally completed fuel mapping for my new 2.3l / Sadev configuration.

240 hp / 170 ft-lbs at the wheels. (Approx 275 hp / 195 ft-lbs I assume at the crank).

Overall, pretty happy with the package (esslinger block, esslinger stage 5 cams). The torque curve is really flat which is great.   Arguably I now have too short of ratios but will try to enjoy the car as is this summer before any other mods.

Next, is a true shake down on local tracks.  All this hopefully prepping the car for an enjoyable USA7 event at the end of this year….

Nice results.  Well done!  Will it be reliable this time?

I assume you still have the 3.9 BMW M2/Titan rear end in it then for it to be too short?

Thanks Croc

I hope so!  The other engine was solid and well built with the exception of the spark plugs issue bother Simon and I had.  I now use the brisk catholdless spark plugs to reduce the risk.  And now with the Sadev, I hope not to have any transmission issue.

Yes, I have the BMW 3.91. In fact, I went through massive trouble changing the diff ratio from 3.64 to 3.91 (trying to find the gears…) to target adequate rpms/ gear based on the Sadev output drive I was give by the mfg er because I thought the 3.64 would be too long.  Perhaps next winter I’ll swap it again or upgrade to a ford rear diff.

From a ratio standpoint, I have exactly what I had before with my caterham 6 speed. But with just more torque and hp.

Have you used something similar to this?

yes.  I used the one from

Sadev.  But the engine is much more powerful and has more torque than I thought , hence I will have to go down eventually in ratio.  The car will top at around 135mph at 8000 rpm. Makes for very quick accels though. Combined with flat shift, should be relatively quick out of corners (if I can keep power down). With a 3.64, we are looking at 144 mph at 8000 rpm. Max power is 7700 rpm so assuming end of straight at 7800 rpm, would be looking at a respectable 140 mph.

but let’s see. I ll enjoy this very quick Accel car this summer as is. Most of the time I never run out of gear anyway at the need of any straights in North America.
Maybe I will this time …:)

I'm doing that now on the purple car to get it from the BMW 3.91 to a 3.62 Drexler.  Putting aside the diff was broken and it only has 1 wheel drive, it was still wheel spinning in 5th gear.

Not sure I’ll have my car by then but if I do, I’d want to run.

how does the event work?  Do I need to register?

What are specific safety requirements?

I’ve done a few HPDE events with the Elise group back in mid 2000s with Hunting Ridge. How would this compare?

At those events, you could have a more experienced instructor come with you. Is that available here?

It will be my first time on the track as well. My Seven has 4-point harnesses. Assume I know nothing and please recommend (or send me to a site that spells it out for a novice like me) what needs to be done in order for my vehicle to fully comply for a track day

@zootnewton  great drive today. Thanks for coming out.

@Croc and others are certainly the experts. So they can correct me if I am incorrect on any of these.

helmet 2015 or 2020

dated 5 or 6 pt belts

Han’s device (in date)

arm restraints

long pants and long sleeve shirts

tires - tread and I believe 5 years from date code ????  Not sure on this

you can look at the 2025 registration link where croc was nice enough to lay it all out.  If the hans isn’t mentioned that is a new regulation and is required

if you want to go into a super deep dive there is this

https://njmp.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Chapter-62-_-updated-2015.pdf

tech inspection (this states 4pt but I think that is incorrect)

https://njmp.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/NJMP-Tech-Form-2025.pdf

some racing classes have other restrictions etc.

if you have not gone out before I believe you can go in the green group (possibly with instructor). We usually run in yellow for open wheel.

@cbuff The ride was a blast! Thanks! There is conflicting information the way I'm reading things. 2025 regs are expired and I also saw that 4-point harnesses seem to be allowed. I'm looking for the most current information that doesn't require a law degree. I'd also be more than happy to hit the track before the October meet to get myself past the green grouping.

I believe @Croc write up from last year is still accurate

Event Requirements

Safety: All safety requirements that are mandatory for all participants are specified in New Jersey Law – Chapter 62 here:

https://www.njsp.org/divorg/operations/pdf/mvracetrack/20150709_racing_regulations.pdf

Please read the section on HPDE as it will specify all safety and tech requirements you are subject to.

Driver’s License: All drivers must have a valid Driver’s License and be at least 18 years of age to participate. You will be asked to present your Driver’s License at NJMP during sign on.

Attire: NJ State Law requires all participants on the track wear long pants and closed toe shoes. No one in shorts will be permitted to enter the racetrack or pit lane. Driver overalls are perfectly acceptable but are not mandatory to those without them.

Technical Inspection/Rules & Regulations

You will be required to complete a tech inspection prior to the event.

Please read the HPDE section of New Jersey Law Chapter 62 seen here.  These regulations are yet to be updated for 2015 helmet requirements:

https://www.njsp.org/divorg/operations/pdf/mvracetrack/20150709_racing_regulations.pdf

Some essential criteria for being able to participate in an HPDE at NJMP:

  • Helmet required: A Snell M or SA rated full face helmet dated 2015 or newer is required for all drivers and passengers on the track. Open face helmets are notpermitted in Se7ens.  Rental helmets are available with prior arrangement through the NJMP General Store.
  • Arm restraints: NJMP requires these as mandatory safety equipment in open cars
  • Open top cars: Must have approved rollover protection. No pop up roll-bars or detachable hard tops.
  • Broomstick rule is applicable for roll over protection. Broomstick is from top of roll bar to front chassis tube (at nosecone) as the windscreen is not viewed as structural.
  • Belts: Only 5 or 6 point belts are acceptable. Belt age must be on a label on the belts. No label – no driving. SFI belts must be 2 years or newer. FIA belts must be within 5 years or newer. No 4-point belts allowed. No DOT 3-point belts are accepted in open cars like ours.
  • Numbers: Painters tape or vinyl sticker numbers on both sides of your seven are acceptable. Please don’t pick “7” as everyone does that and you will be asked to change it.
  • Tires: NJMP considers tires 5 years old to be out of date and expired.  Please anticipate tire wear and do not turn up with marginal tire tread. Consider that the track may be damp in which case slick tires are unsafe. If you are close to wearing out a set of tires, then consider ordering and bringing a new spare set. TK Autosports can mount these on your wheels at the Thunderbolt pits for a modest fee.
  • Effective June 2024, NJMP is mandating all participants at their events must use a recognized head neck restraint system.  This includes brands such as HANS, Simpson Hybrid and the like.  This policy includes any guest/visitor drivers.

You will have to go through a tech line on the day and complete a tech form.  These forms will be available from NJMP in the pits on the day of the event.

My Hans says 2026. Does that mean I'm still good for this year and it expires on December 31? Should be good for this year right?

Thank you.

Ill have to see about the 6 point, arm restraints and Hans.

I didn’t see a 6 point option on the order form. I’ll ask greg about that this week.
