That's actually Ansar Ali, the Managing Director of Caterham Cars. I can't take credit for it. There's a raging discussion going on in BlatChat over the comments he made in the November Caterham Life email.

just read teh caterham Life blurb and about half of the blatchat thread. what a sod. also a stark difference to what the market is here and when u have homefield advantage.

ur pic has made across the ocean.

Ansar Ali's original comments are on page 4 of the November "Caterham Life" e-publication, found on the Caterham web page -- or here: http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/November_2007.pdf (1.4MB pdf file).

When I read it, I thought some of the comments were a bit inappropriate, but I think the Blatchat community mostly overreacted. I saw Mr. Ali's comments as unfiltered sentiment from the head of an international company, and while I disagreed with some of what he said, I very much appreciated his straightforward honesty. His reply also surprised me, in that I did not expect one at all. I think it was a very good one, too.

Ultimately, I see his original comments as only a misstep as opposed to a full-blown screw-up, and his reply as more than redeeming for that misstep.

edit -- So, are you gettin' the Porsche?

heh, it's not the first time a manufacturer doesn't like "to promote their positive opinions on competitive product"

Go for it, I had over 20 of those over the years. They kept improving them each year. The only problem, the fun starts @ 130. With the 7, the terror starts @ 100. Gary

Well, after much handringing, the seller, not me, traded his 2002 Carrara 2 in on a red 2008 Cabriolet. The Porsche dealer facilitated the courtesy trade.

Sitting next to my 7 is now a brand new (well almost) 2002 996 with a total of 4560 miles on it!!! The Dealer actually said it was the cleanest tradein they ever saw. Guess I'm not getting anything else for Christmas now. :D

I've ordered a 4 post lift that should be delivered next week. I think I can position the lift far enough rearward in the garage so that if I back the se7en on the garage door motor will be positioned in front of the windshield and over the bonnet, giving me a little more clearance.

If not I'll have to have the garage door raised and a new flush mount door lifting motor installed. :ack:

First impressions is that the Porsche is a nice car to drive. Smooth, responsive, very Civilized. Surprisingly, with the 18 inch low profile wheels and tires, it actually seems to be a rougher ride than the se7en.

Wonder how it will handle the hills in the snow we're supposed to get tonight???

Hi Tom,

Glad to hear you now own a nice 996.

Do yourself a favior join the Porsche Club as the magazine is worth the membership in its self.

I have been a PCA member since 1970 when I purchased my first Porsche, a 914-6 which I still have and will most likely always have besides the club has a lot of good people in it and they have very good social activitys for the Porsche owner and their family.

Have fun and enjoy your new car.

Hi Tom,

Glad to hear your Porsche deal worked out, I hope you get as much fun with it as your 7.

I looked at a 1979 911 SC today, not exactly what I am looking for, maybe I can hire you , you seem to broker nice deals.

Enjoy it, just not tonight or Sunday, it's going to be foul !

Congrats! Definitely join the PCA. Good group and the local chapters typically put on a number of events each year, ranging from track days, to tech sessions, to drives. Also check out Rennlist which is a good online community with plenty of tech advice.

Congratulations!

It appears we have some Porsche enthusiasts among Seven owners.

Steve - if you are serious in buying a Porsche, check your local PCA regions

The 911SC is a very good car - reliable, great handling, wider body style, better brakes etc. My first P-car was a 1978 SC Targa. A great car to drive and relatively easy to work on and modify.

Avoid 1975 - 1977 as these engines tended to not do well with early US emission controls. Porsche has been on a streak with the 1987on cars - they are all quite good.

Thanks guys!! The porker is really a nice car, though it doesn't get the admiration the 7 gets.

Tomorrow the 4 post lift is being delivered. Christmas really did come early!!!

My daughters are all excited about learning how to drive a stick. I wouldn't let them learn on the 7 as it is waaayy too fast and twitchy. A nice slow Porsche should be ok. :bs:

Pics of the lift tomorrow. Tom
