DB6
I just bought a pair of ("Waffle Zoom Racers",honest that's what they are called, lol),track shoes really> for $10.00 at the local Nike outlet, I asked for the narrowest shoe they had, that was it, BUT the downside is they are the ugliest shoes I ever put my feet in, 4 shades of camo black and grey????. Anyone know of a reasonable priced shoe that will give you good pedal width clearance without going to a full blown race shoe>i.e, a shoe that you can drive and wear for normal use. \Cheers DB
11Budlite
DB, I think the Puma Speed Cats are a popular normal looking shoe that se7en enthusiasts can use everyday. I have two pairs of old-style Reebok Classics in black and white that I took a die grinder to the edges to give some more clearance, and these have worked fine for driving on the street and don't look out of place at work. Some of the new versions of the Reebok Classic don't look as narrow and have much heavier lugged soles. Bruce :7drive:
bsimon
Look into the Piloti line of shoes. They are a bit more expensive than the Nikes, around 80-100 clams. although they are sold as "racing type"shoes they are not Nomex and I would only use them for casual driving. IMHO, the shoes seem to be rugged enough for everyday use and the styling is rather good. Pegasus Racing and Safe Racer have Pilotis in stock. gjslutz
I found "Asics" made a good fit for me. I just picked up a pair @ Famous Footwear to try last year and they are fine. I take another pair of shoes if I'm going to walk miles though. If I was to dance on a bar, people wouldn't be looking at my shoes. They would throw out the old fool. pksurveyor
Adidas makes a driving shoe similar to the Puma Speedcat. I like them better because they are a little wider. Ross has a big shoe clearance sale last week, there were a few leftover Piloti for $ 19.99.
breezy7
Impact racing makes a sport shoe that sells for $50 that gives me clearance around the pedals. If the Village People cover band is playing in the bar nobody will even notice the lightning bolts on the shoes.
slngsht
I've been using these lately. Very sporty looking, and work great with the bottom mount pedals. They support my foot just right. The big plus is that they're the talk of the night wherever I go http://blog.theshoegoddess.com/Ash---shell-satin-high-heel-sneakers-130-shop.jpg :leaving:

Al N.
I wear size 8 shoes, and never had a an issue in the Seven with anything but wide soled running shoes...even redwings workboots fit okay. I had the addidas drivers and currently have pilotis. Either looks fine with jeans or casual wear.

Some Piloti models are Nomex lined, such as their "Monaco" shoe, which doesn't look too bad (maybe looks like something Marvin the Martian might wear): http://www.piloti.com/products/product_details.aspx?prod_id=200&prod_sku=PRO5-
JohnCh
I have Pilotis and Speedcats. From a width perspective the Pilotis split the difference between the Speedcats and normal athletic shoes. -John
manik
Pilotis over here too. http://www.piloti.com/products/touring.aspx I thought I was in the minority with a size 13 shoe, but Al may have me beat! tm
Al N.
BTW, on a recon run for the Dragon meet, I walked into a Robbinsville restaurant with a trick s2000 in front. It was easy to spot the owner....I just looked for the speedcats! Had a good conversation with him, too — and the shoes were the ice breaker, "Excuse me, is that your [iNSERT VEHICLE] out front?" So, never fear wearing the Speedcats or Pilotis out of the house. To me, it's the sign of at least some passion for driving (unless of course, they are worn by those legions of people for whom they are a merely a passing fad). -A
southwind25
I wear the black Pumas...very comfy and they seem to work great. if your really shy, just color in the little white tiger with a black sharpie.. S1Steve
I like the Piloti shoes, and wear them alot.I get the Griot'Garage Handbook in the mail, and I seem to get new ones at X-mas and birthdays. I also have a pair of G-Force nomex high tops for track days ,but seem to wear them more and more. They are hot, sweaty and I would not wear them to a bar or what ever, they work well thought.:yesnod: Steve
sparecr
Being size 8 like AL I can drive in my work boots. I also have a pair of the Pumas everyone raves about (wife uses them also). If you were at LOG28 the Indy group had neat little instructions for making the Piloti into a green and yellow Lotus driving shoe and I also saw the Addidias in green and yellow Lotus colors. Sean
A friend of a friend told me that Puma Drift Cats were being sold at his local Marshalls* (So. California) for $39.99, and that some Pilotis were at his local Ross* for $20. I found the same shoes for the same prices in the same stores in Silicon Valley, but there was limited stock, and all size 10 and up. Check your local discount store first! *Not sure if they are nation-wide stores, but Marshalls and Ross are large discount clothing stores with multiple locations in California and at least a couple other states. Also, not sure if stocked items are uniform around the country... but it's worth a shot.
