Black Se7ens...

Recommended Posts

Over the course of the weekend, I realized that there aren't too many black Se7ens out there...

A) Is there a reason for this?

B) If you know of any, could you post a link to a photo here?

Thanks in advance...

Does this mean all Black or Black fenders/nose?

Ian's car has the black fenders/nose. EDIT: I forgot Mondo, EviLRome0 and Kiwi Birkin (and that's just off the top of my head)

I also remember there was a westfield on jalopnik that was all black too (with the exception of some moss).

I found a few with a google image search "black caterham"

I think the reason black (and most dark colors for that matter) are not used is people tend to see brighter colors well. Another reason is that lsis cars are generally fiberglass and black does not hide imperfections well.

My Stalker V6 is black, I've had a "thing" for black cars for several years.

Besides the looks the decision was based on a simple principal, that black is black. By that I mean that while there are hundreds of shades of almost all colors there is only one true black.

That means that in event of a chip, scratch, etc. a touch-up is much simpler. I found this to be true with my last black car, a Zink Formula Ford. Being a race car, and an open wheeled one at that, chips were a way of life. I was even able to make fiberglass repairs to the nose and repaint the entire piece with a can of black rattle-can paint.

For a quick touch up, I use a black felt tip pen.

Besides, when it's clean and shiney, what looks better than a black car. Mine even has a contrasting pair of pin stripes.

Thats one of the "happiest" pictures of a se7en i have ever seen!

Black is an awesome color (shade?) but black is hot in the sun, hard to keep clean (like that really matters anyways), and...

technically, black will deteriorate the fiberglass quicker because of heat absorbtion. (from what i have been told by airplane and boat people)..

but black is kewl and classy..

Also, most anyone who has sat in a Seven will tell you that the heat from the paint pales in comparison to the heat from the driveline!:D

not quite true in my case as i have exhaust running down the center channel and have no cover over the pedal box.

I've only seen a few black se7ens in person and they were all stunning. I especially like them with red interiors like Brad's Caterham. I still haven't seen one with clamshell fenders but I do have a pic of a black Birkin I can share:

In my opinion one of the prettiest 7's I have ever seen is the restored Hamblin 7.5 as pictured in Ortenburgers book. I would love to see color shots of it. Has anyone got any other pictures of it?

Bruce, I know you have a great collection of photos, any chance you have a copy of this car?

Cheers-

Dermot.
