Its like an auction site you post what you need shipped and the location to and from and shippers bid on it. You can accept the bid you like and then arrange the shipping. They have both open and closed options. My last transaction was with Wayne 478-288-7778. He was very easy to deal with. He shipped my Porsche from GA to Tx for 800.00 in an enclosed trailer. If the car is a specialty item then I suggest one of the following three (call them and speak to them live) Horseless Carriage Reliable Auto Shippers Passport Auto Transport I've used all of the above over the years without any issues. Kitcat Posted May 16, 2012 Share Posted May 16, 2012 I recently did what W Tex suggests to see what it wld cost to ship my 7 to an out-of-state engine builder. I got 38 e-mails and 10 phone calls and they are still pouring in. I learned that there is a central registration board where your trip is listed. Then the mad scramble begins for your business. Variables are enclosed vs open (2x as much), and timeliness. If you are in no hurry, you can afford to wait til someone has a light load and will add you for a lower cost. The more you agree to pay, the more likely that your load will be picked up. The bids varied enormously; $375 low, $450 average, $750 high, all open (for a 500 mile trip). On the surface it sounds great...tons of people trying to get your business insures cost competition. However, once you sign an agreement with one all bets are off. The reviews of all the companies bidding on my car were littered with customers where they just didn't bother to pick the car up in a timely manner. WitlessEvil Posted August 20, 2013 Share Posted August 20, 2013 I've used passport and had no issues other than pickup schedule. It's kind of granted that the schedule be somewhat fluid. The driver basically makes one big loop from customer to customer and running a tight schedule doesn't work. Just make sure that when you get quotes you are comparing the same thing. After getting quotes from several carriers I started to find that they were all in the same ball park. I wanted door to door pickup and delivery, fully insured, running car, and enclosed. I could get as cheap as $700, but no telling what kind of transport that was with basically no guarantees. I think I finally paid about $1200 for east coast to midwest. The carrier, who runs their own trucks, quoted a price, but would not guarantee even a window for pickup. The location wasn't convenient, so it took 8 weeks to get the car from Pennsylvania to California. Try to get a pickup window agreed in advance. plbs1234 Posted August 20, 2013 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Be careful of the internet auto transportation sites. They are basically brokers who try and place your load with truckers. They usually have an up front deposit which covers their part of the deal. They have an incentive to bid low to get your deposit and then when they try and place the load, if their total bid is too low for the truckers, it may take a long time to get your car moved. When you get impaient to get your car moved they often come back with a request for more money to get your car moved quickly. Stay away from the freight forwarding brokers and deal with an outfit that specializes in moving cars and has their own trucks. Paul Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He did mention that the price was low since he was trying to fill up the truck. Door to door delivery, fully enclosed, single layer (no cars above to leak), running car, extra parts included (1 set of wheels and a small box of misc parts). He is the owner of the company, has 3 trucks and 3 drivers, including himself, and came highly recommended. Based out of Denver, IIRC. He had a Bugatti Type 35 prototype (raced by Ettore Bugatti himself) going to a mechanic for engine work. Had to roll it onto my street to unload my lowly Locost. I tried working with UShip but after several disconcerting responses (e.g. I questioned one bidder about enclosed transport when he only showed an open trailer picture in his profile). I'll jump on this thread late, but I have also used Thomas Sunday on several occasions for car transport and have nothing but good things to say about them.
