bigdog
Does anyone pull their 7 around on a trailer? If you do, Did you buy one of the appropriate size or just use a large one? If you have a small trailer where did you get it? Lots of nice trailers in Europe. Just not sure yet about the importation rules if any on trailers. xcarguy
bigdog, I don't know what you have available in Germany, but here in the U.S., when I have a need to tow my car (track day), I rent a U-Haul. It's relatively cheap and when I'm finished with it, I simply turn it in and I don't have the burden of ownership, nor do I have to concern myself with storing it when not being used. scannon
I have a 14 x 7' Haulmark Lohauler trailer. It is designed for motorcycles and very low profile, some 20" lower in overall height than the previous trailer. It also has a V-nose that helps with wind resistance and gas mileage. My mileage went from 8 mph to 11 mph with this trailer. It weighs about 2,200 lb and the back of the trailer swings down for a loading ramp. I went through 4 other trailers before settling on this one. It has brakes on all four wheels and tows very well, never a problem with swaying or whipping. It's a good fit for a Seven but I can also get an MX-5 Miata in it but I have to climb over the door to get out of the car.

Those u-haul rigs are such pigs though. I towed one of those behind my old 2003 tundra with the 4.6 V8. And it was about all the truck could handle (the tongue weight seemed a million Lbs) even with my little 356 speedster on the trailer. U-haul should supply WD hitches for those trailers. bigdog
I'll link a couple of adverts from a German for sale site. Might be interesting for you guys to look at. It's in German so I'll give you the basic info for each advert. This first one is a new trailer. Gross weight rating 1400Kgs, Load capacity 1000Kgs, empty weight 400Kgs. the deck is 4 mtr X 1.8 mtr 2400Euro = $3200 [/url]http://www.autoscout24.eu/Details.aspx?id=227726015&cd=634959379560000000&asrc=st|fs This one is used 490Kgs empty, 2500Kgs GVWR, tilt deck. 1400 Euro=$1800 http://www.autoscout24.eu/Details.aspx?id=239272936&cd=635170154520000000&asrc=st|fs Or there is this. http://www.allytrailer.co.uk/home Nice stuff. My dilemma is that I'm not sure whether I can have one shipped in my household goods upon returning to the USA. or what the Feds, state bureaucrats might have to say. I really should take some photos to post of the towing combos I see over here in Europe. It flies in the face of the American idea that to haul anything one needs a brute of a truck. Trucks nor any full sized vehicles of any kind are quite rare over here. I've seen an Opal FWD touring car (station wagon) pulling a two place horse trailer with two horses in it and a full car as well. I've seen Audi A4 sized cars pulling what looks to be 15Ft+ camper trailers. As you can imagine I'm watching this from the American prospective while traveling the autobahn. I just scratch my head and say can this be for real. It is.

subtlez28
Can I suggest something like this: http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad115/TurboWood/Caterham/howtotowacar_zpsad956aeb.jpg Cringe! What could possibly go wrong w that?! Caution, this one has foul language: Based on this video I would say just rent a whole u haul truck! Seriously though, I have a flat deck, single axle utility trailer rated for 3,000 pounds. I intend to haul my relatively heavy 1,500-1,600 pound stalker on it. I originally purchased it to haul the UTV I had (1,200 lb RZR 900 XP). That towed beautifully, I would think the extra 400 lbs will not make much difference. If I was buying a trailer specifically for just the 7, I would go lighter and smaller still, like your ads. Mine does other chores like hauling lumber, brush and landscaping stuff. rss
hey does anyone here have experience with serpent express trailers? http://www.serpentexpress.com/specifications.html i've been looking for a small, lightweight trailer myself, one that could be hauled with a small suv, and these look pretty nice. developed specifically for cobras but look like they would work well for sevens. car plus trailer would weigh less than than 3000 lbs. i've read a number of threads here about trailers, but don't recall seeing this one mentioned. A 14Ft load deck seems a bit on the large side for most of our 7's that on average have a 7ft wheelbase. Of course if one hauls other cars & has a rather large garage to park that trailer in. Then why not. Looks like a nice trailer.
TheDingo8MyBaby
Cringe! What could possibly go wrong w that?! Caution, this one has foul language: This one is my personal favorite: I also really enjoy this image of Pete Lovely's Lotus 49 on top his VW combi http://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Pete-Lovely-Lotus-49B-Brainerd-.jpg I've personally used the u-hauls trailers with good success, but always wished I'd had something enclosed. They are great (albeit heavy) if you don't have a place to store your trailer. It's also nice if you can find a location that allows you to do after hours drop-off's so you can rent/return all in one day.
scannon
hey does anyone here have experience with serpent express trailers? I talked with them a few years ago about converting an 18" aluminum flat bed trailer I owned at the time. They were responsive and willing to build one on my trailer if I brought it to their Utah location. I decided I wanted the security of a metal sided trailer when traveling and leaving the trailer and Seven in a motel parking lot overnight. a.moore
I went with an inexpensive 20' enclosed trailer from Proline Trailers (its the Deleuxe trim and its made by Team Spirit in Elkhart IN). It wasn't that expensive to begin with and its large enough that reselling it will not be an issue when that time comes. Plus it can serve as another garage/enclosed storage during the winter months. dhubbard422
I've wondered if this wouldn't do the trick for hauling my 7? http://www.alumaklm.com/single-heavy-axle-utilities/item/106-7712h-tilt-utility-trailer.html http://www.circlemtrailers.com/2014-aluma-7712h-tilt-utility-trailer-new-flatbed-utility-tx-i701756 I don't plan to acquire a heavy duty tow vehicle and at 620# empty with an almost 3,000 pound gross weight limit, it seems like a lot of mid-sized vehicles might tow this trailer and a 1,400# 7 nicely. I'm curious what y'all think.

Klasik-69
When choosing a trailer, keep in mind you may want to haul a car other than a 7 at some time in the future so pick something a little more flexible. I bought both an enclosed (24') and open (16') trailer. Either will haul the 7, or the Vettes, or any other sports car. The enclosed will haul the GTO but the open isn't long enough. I prefer pulling the open trailer with my F150 but like the security of the enclosed. As Scannon pointed out, security issues at a motel can keep you from getting any sleep. When I use the open trailer, I drop off the trailer/car at the track for the night whenever possible. Gas mileage is 8.3 mpg on the enclosed, 14.7 mpg on the open while towing at 75 mph on flat land, less in hilly country. Some guys (as some have already stated) use U-Hauls with great success. Drop it off when you're done, & nothing to insure, store, or maintain.
