The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale

It appears to be surface rust, but at any rate there would be an undo then do as it has set so long. And what is the age of the tires? Too many unknowns here. And at the present time there are many "bargains" in the reasonably priced/completed/sorted/maintained category to be taking on a project, and just doing needed maintenance is a full time job.

Yes. I was wondering what other (nasty?) surprises there might be. The other people with cars/kits for sale were more forthcoming with information and just nicer to deal with. A friend just found an ad for a Miata based Locost that is documented in a build log. The workmanship looks pretty good. The engine appears to be tired but can be easily replaced. It's also close enough that I could take a long lunch and go look at it :-)

Since our esteemed Croc O'Dial is not around, maybe you didn't see that a Westfield is ending an auction on BAT tomorrow.

No affiliation with this but it looks real nice, seems to be more for sale in the NW,

Wow, that car is really nice! The gated shifter is sweet, the interior is awesome, the wheels look good, the car doesn't look weird from any angle. I personally would go with a grey exterior with that red interior, but otherwise, I think the builder did a fantastic job! Good price for someone looking to have a fun mountain road car.

Slightly bored here as my whisky tasting in Dundee, Scotland is delayed. Apparently 6.30am is too early for taste testing....no idea why?

Huge kudos to Ian7 for fishing out the title story (saga?) on the above car. Its worth reading the comments on the BAT auction for educational value alone.

Thx Croc; BTW, you're just up the road from my family home town (Newtonmore) :-)

That VIN transfer may have passed the DMV, but it still sounds to me like the DMV was told that the '64 was REBUILT into the 2005 using a few of the old bits, (dubious, but frequent), not the full story that the VIN was being transferred from one complete running car to another complete running car (less legal I suspect). Doubtful that 'no longer on the road' makes it less sketchy. Nonetheless, the offense to the '64 is complete and likely irreversible :-(

Ian - you come from a gorgeous part of the world. I have always liked Scotland. In Edinburgh for the next two days.

I always thought a VIN plate transfer as was described on BAT was a Federal and a State crime.

And its exactly this type of thing that makes me never want to go near an original Lotus (or any old British car for that matter) with certain past owners and/or "stories" about its past. Other folks on this forum would do well to google the names in your posts on that BAT sale thread if they are looking to buy an old Lotus 7.

http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13160&stc=1Also an Arkley......mine runs a modifed 1275cc...with Datsun 210 five speed...

Here is a brief explanation of the Arkley...In the late 1960's, John

Britten owned a Morgan/Lotus dealership in Arkley, (hence the name)

Herfordshire, England, which is a suburb of London. Additionally, John

was a successful MG midget motor sports racing driver. In the

competitive world of auto sports, removing weight has always been a

priority. It was hardly surprising that John began using fiberglass

front and rear bodywork to further lighten the car for a competitive

edge. Later on, Britten began selling turnkey cars and fiberglass kits

for the do it yourself aficionados. In the mid 1970's the kits were

licensed to be produced in the United States.

The kit, consists of one complete front and one complete rear body

section, and transforms a 1962 on Spridget into a lighter and arguably

more stylish British Sports car. In order to install the front and rear

sections, the front fenders and hood are removed, and the fiberglass

front is bolted directly to the original bumper brackets. Portions of

the rear fender and trunk are then cut out using a sawsall. Once this is

done the rear section is fiberglassed and pop riveted into place. Since

all of the original car except the front and rear body sections are

retained much of the typical “kit” car assembly and fit problems are

avoided and the basic mechanical integrity of the Spridget is

unaffected. Depending on your point of view, the cars look similar to a

Lotus/Morgan, or bug eye Sprite from the front

Xcarguy, the car is not for sale on any site...just now decided to sell. To see the car go to:

britishv8.org

click on mg sports cars

scroll down to mgb and find michael maloney

you will see two iterations of the car

the first one is with the 4.3 v6 that was in the car for a few years

the 2nd one is with the 3.9 aluminum v8...which has been in the car 10 years...

There are very few MGBGT's that catch my attention, but that certainly is one of them. At first glance the gunmetal compomotive wheels look reminiscent of the Watanabe wheels that are found on older Japanese cars. Very nice, Michael.

Regarding the BAT Lotus sevens with questionable history, it would be wise of BAT to ask the sellers to confirm with John Watson at the historic lotus seven register the stamped chassis # matches the SB# on the plate before selling. This would minimize any scrutiny around the authenticity of the car. It's also important that the frame number is not listed publicly so the matching numbers cannot be duplicated. I'd be curious to see the chassis plate on the 2005 superlight. The plate itself could be a fake as well and the DMV would never know.
