I've screwed on a permanent bracket to the windshield post for mounting my radar detector. The S.E. Michigan Detroit area is number one in speed traps in the nation. The local goverments are so broke that it is the only way they can raise money is by changing the speed limits very block so they can hand out tickets. Dave W

Martin I had the same problem with one tire, I finally put about 100 psi into the tire and found the smallest of air leaks at the tire to rim bead area. I did not want to use a tire sealer because of the problems mentioned. I broke down the one side of the tire, cleaned the rim and spray a little Hi-Tac gasket around the rim bead surface. A year later and it still holds air. Dave W

You should be able to repair it with a bottle torch. Just spend a lot of time cleaning the surface, and use a paste flux. A smaller tip will help direct the heat just to the seam area. You have to carefull that you do not melt the solider around the tube(s) that is next to the seam leak. Also make sure you have all the water out. Last, pressure test before to reinstall, because some of the old rads have had sealer used in them and the repair could loosen it. Good luck on the rad, Dave W

I was at last years show and auto-x, and had a great time. There was 8 or 9 Sevens there, three of "THE REAL THING" early Lotus Sevens made it. Hunderds of great cars and bikes. Can't say for sure, but I'll try to attend, Dave W

I just use the bags you get from oversea flights that have the velcro ties, and store small stuff under the seats. I also have a mid-size spring type paper clip attached to the center screw on the shift booth ring, that I can use to clip a folded map or directions too. I made a small aluminum storage box with a sliding top that fits between the two seats on top of the tunnel. Used for holding a few papers and sun glasses, but a lot of times it gets used to hold a cold soda. Dave W

I use a small 2 1/2" Dia polishing pad on a 12V drill. The pad is made from hard felt and comes in a kit from Harbor Freight that uses velcro to attach it to a 1/4" arbor. I also use Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish which seem to hold a shine longer then most other polishes. Still takes about 30 to 40 minutes per side. But sure is faster then polishing by hand Dave W

Before you put the exhaust back on. Take a straight edge and check to see if the mounting surface on the manifold or header is flat. You may have to level the surface to get a good seal. You can also try putting Permatex 300 on the gasket. Dave W

Check and see if you have oil in the catch can. The breather or hose may be plugged or restricted so the pressure is not vented to the can. A lot of breathers have baffles or strainers that can get plugged up, not allowing the pressure to vent correctly. You could also add a 2nd vent. If you had big problem with the engine, you would have been using oil and you could see the smoke from the exhaust. Dave W

Thanks for the comments, I thought a few would like that. A lot of people say they have been thru hell, but this time I have photographic proof that I made it out. Dave W

I work with the USA car manufactures every day, and it not because their quality and design engineers do not know what there are doing, it's because accounting/purchasing at the big 3 control the design of the car and the processing. They will not spend one extra cent to improve the product, and willing to sacrifice it to save 2 cent. I could tell a story or two Dave W

Another oil option is any diesel rated oil, they have the higher ZDP additive level. I would recommend Rotella T, 15W-40 you can get it at almost any discount store. I've been using now for several years in my Seven. It works for me, and I do not even have flat tappets Dave W

Speeding Tickets ...and what cops say...your best story
Dave W replied to DB6's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Tony Keep your fringers crossed, No new tickets and in SE Michigan!!! Northville is number one in the nation for speed traps and Ann Arbor is number 6. I've been lucky in the Seven, only one ticket for 5 over, while doing 76 in a 55 zone. Got to remember the Radar Detector more often, Dave W -
Bruce Thanks for the heads-up, I love those old Morgan 3 wheelers. Dave

Andrew Sounds like you may have the over heating licked. I think to be on the safe side come summer you may want to wire in an over ride by-pass for the rad fan, or find a better location for the sensor. I like wetting agents and over rides Dave W

You can have galvanic corrosion problem between the carbon fiber " conducts electricity" and the aluminum. The ZO6 aluminum Corvette space had problems with the carbon fiber floor boards and the tunnel and seat back rails during development. The bonding bead had to be changed so the carbon fiber would not come into contact the aluminum in an area that get a lot of water spray. I think it's faux, you would think that the front nose section would be blown back quicker when it's body is at angle to the air stream Vs ahead of the main airframe section plus you can not see all the wires and lines in the aircraft at the failure section. Could you have put a rag or shop towel in one of the hoses during the chain replacement and not remove it?, which is blocking a water passage or water pump. Dave W

We had perfect weather in Michigan this weekend. I pulled my annual oil change and brake bleed, then circulated the new oil for 2 hours in the low 70 degree temp with sun and high clouds. We are supposed to have good weather all week !!!! Dave W :7fume:

I tried a wind blocker last fall and found the same thing. It was slightly worst with the blocker. I did not try cutting it down. I open up holes in the back, but it did not help. I do have winglets on the side of the windshield, which does help. Dave W:7drive:

Gas Mileage, Tell us how your 7 does on the MPG's
Dave W replied to tnttim's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Highway i.e. mostly expressway = 35 MPG at about 75 MPH Back country roads driven like a Seven = 26 MPG 4AGE motor with about 135 HP Dave W :7drive: -
That really looks nice!!! You did and excellent job restoration. Just in time for the summer fun. Dave W :7drive:

Rob I made provisions for flat towing by welding in a 7/16" nut on the inside of the front lower tube, on both sides. My lower nose cone attaches on the these same lower nuts, and I then just use an aluminum spacer to take up the space of the thickness of the tow bar attachment. The bar has to be designed to be low and wide enough not to hit the nose while on an incline, and still clear the tires in a turn. It means the tow vehicle can not be a 4X4 with a high hitch. I have a low S-10 with a hitch. Sorry can not post a picture, I'm on the road. Dave W :7drive:
