Those in your photo should be grade 5. If you look at the threads near the head of your bolts you can see how the thread is damaged. This was probably caused by running with the bolts not torqued correctly but I still like to use a bolt with a shank long enough to extend through both flanges. The originals bolts on my '64 MGB have a solid shank that extends through both flanges. You can get these bolts at aircraft supply stores or here: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=AN6

Not sure how you remove the gear shift boot on the top of the tunnel on a Caterham, but once you do it's just three bolts to remove the gearshift lever from the top of the gearbox. It's on the left side of this photo where the yellow cover is.

Donnie - The Dzus fasteners are not original. I think your car would have come with two toggle-type clamps in the rear and two spring-type clamps holding down the front (or maybe four toggle-type clamps?). There should be some photos of some original cars with the correct setup here: http://www.simplesevens.org/

Glad I could help.

Mike - Unless the Birkin bolt pattern has changed these wheels won't work. The Birkin has a 4x100 bolt pattern. HTH -
Not sure exactly what light you have on your car, but I think they used the typical Lucas L467 light that was used on MGA's, TR3's, Cobras, and many other early British sports cars. If it is that light, you can get them in either genuine Lucas or reproduction varieties. Most of them are chrome but I believe you can get them in black finish as well. Here's a repro version: http://www.finishlineaccessories.com/body-parts/lucas-lights-headlight-brake-indicator/Lucas-467-license-plate-light?sort=rating&order=DESC Moss has the Lucas and repro here: http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29259

Check out this thread for the different Zetec models: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5096&highlight=zetec If you have a Zx1 with hydraulic lifters, Kent cams has a couple different cam grinds available: http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-fitment-type/parts-by-engine-ford/ford-zetec-e.html?p=2&product_area=745&product_group=155 I'm not sure what's available with the ZX2, but I think you can swap a ZX3 head on it and use the more commonly available Focus cams.

I wonder if anybody has documented the number of oil pump failures regarding the use of the stock crank pulley/harmonic balancer, or with an under-drive pulley. I just compared the stock pulley that I removed from my '96 Zetec, which is 3.22# and has rubber section between the inner and outer parts of the pulley to my Esslinger UDP which was supposed to weigh about .5# and is a single piece of aluminum. It seems like a lot of us who run the Zetec have installed an UDP to reduce the rpm of the alt/wp when we spin our engines up to 6-7k and beyond. Due to the location of oil pump on the Zetec, could the use of an UDP w/o a harmonic balancer be contributing to a vibration issue that could be damaging the stock O/P gears? I do think that $349 for the improved gears is a small price to pay for insurance on an engine that regularly sees extended rpm usage. I'd be interested in getting some input from any of you engineering-types.

I'm pretty sure that the Indy 500 was part of the F1 schedule in the 50's.

If you're talking about the red #2 car, that's an Austin-Healey Sebring Sprite. They produced a few of these cars with more aerodynamic bodies (as well as standard bodied cars) and raced them at Sebring in the early 1960's. Some pretty impressive drivers raced Sprites at Sebring including Stirling Moss, Pedro Rodriguez, Innes Ireland, Bruce McLaren, Briggs Cunningham, Walt Hansgen, and even Steve McQueen. I'm pretty sure they ran the 948cc motor bored out to a whopping 998cc's. Not quite the powerhouse of the Griiffith!

Here's a photo from the '96 R&T. The winner was 1989 Porsche Turbo with a modified motor putting out 600hp. The 2nd place car was a stock 993-based 1996 Porsche Turbo. Many cars have gone faster since then!

This guard came on my 2001 Birkin, BIY1899. It's made from 3/16" aluminum, is appr 3.25" deep, and bolts thru four mounting points on the frame. There are a couple scratches that are circled in red. With the way my car is setup I haven't needed it. PM me if you're interested.
