1. Russ - I measured and got 28-30 degrees so I'm assuming 30 degrees. I know it's more than the Birkin seats.
2. No problem David, I didn't think they were what you were looking for. Still for sale.
3. Canadian7 pm'd me first and I'm waiting to hear back from him. If he doesn't want them Paul Hill is next in line, then wemtd. Hope that's fair.
4. CASwede - Here's a photo of what should be the same seats in a different color installed in a Caterham. Not sure if they will be high enough for you. If they are, the seats are yours.
5. Canadian7 - I replied to your PM. I'm in Wolcott, CT. As far as will they work on a Birkin? Not without some mods. Here's a thread that discusses the issue: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?p=64620#post64620
6. It looks like it's just under 16".
7. Two new Caterham clamshell fenders for sale. The drivers side fender has been drilled for the support/body mounts. No mods to the passenger fender. At current exchange rates these are appr. $250.00 each from Caterham UK. Asking $300.00 plus shipping for the pair.
8. These seats are new but never installed from the Sugino Caterham Seven. I think his car was a 1990 model. I've had these sitting for several years but never installed them in my Birkin because the seatback angle is more laid back than the Birkin seats. They are definitely more comfortable than the Birkin seats. I've treated them with Lexol leather conditioner and kept them in a spare bedroom. In excellent shape for their age. $300.00 plus shipping.
9. The Cosworth DFV would be a great choice but it looks like your image is a Coventry Climax powered Lotus 25. That would be an interesting choice as well but only 1.5 liters!
10. Yes, it's a 1996 ZX1 with the metal valve cover.
11. I'm surprised how much wear you have on your pulleys. I suppose after it wore through the hard anodized outer layer it began to wear very quickly. Just as a comparison, my car has a little over 15k miles on it and I run it without the timing belt cover. I just checked and the pulleys look polished where the belt rides but no step wear at all. I suppose my driving conditions are probably a little less dusty than what you are exposed to out there. I'm running the Esslinger pulleys. Here's a quick photo I took without taking the nose cone off:
12. His name is Jeff Schlemmer and he's very well regarded in the MG forum that I visit.
13. Michael - Just for an FYI, I would do a lot of research before constructing an aluminum (tube) space frame. I think this subject has been discussed here before but I couldn't find it in a search. Check out this thread from Metal Meet though: http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7934
14. If he used to import them it was probably a 1960's era Lotus Seven America. They were the early Series 2 model made for the US market and typically came with BMC 948cc or 1098cc engines, clamshell fenders/fiberglass nose, and a few other minor mods.
15. Nice looking ride, enjoy! I would think the best book would be Tony Weale's "Lotus Seven: Preparation, Restoration and Maintenance". It's a pretty expensive book at this point but it has a lot of good info in it and covers Caterhams as well. I take very good care of my copy. Here are some Amazon listings: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/185532153X/sr=/qid=/ref=olp_tab_used?ie=UTF8&colid=&coliid=&condition=used&me=&qid=&seller=&sr=
16. I think most standard Birkins are running 15 x 7 wheels with a 30mm offset. If you are not stuck on the Minilite look check out the Enkei RPF01. I'm running them on my Birkin and I'm very pleased. They're more expensive than a lot of the wheels but they are one of the lightest wheels around at under 10lbs in the 15 x 7 size. That is for the 35mm offset wheel so I'm running 5mm spacers to get the 30mm offset. I got mine here: http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/21-1050.html
17. I think there's a small fitment issue with using a Rota RB on a Birkin. I don't remember exactly what it is but I think there are some clearance issues with the rear caliper and the wheel spokes. I think they can be used with some minor grinding to the caliper, or with a wheel spacer. I think it was Marine7's Birkin that had the issue and that car was sold to sdaddy out in California. Maybe he can verify my info.
18. When I rewired the original mess on my Birkin I bought some new connectors/terminals from British Wiring. The connector with 5 pins is p/n 836 and the connector with 8 pins for the hazard switch is p/n 835. They changed their website but the old catalog is viewable under the "Legacy Pages" tab. http://www.britishwiring.com/ http://www.triumphrescue.com/BritishWiring_oldsite/CAT16_19.PDF Here's a photo of the 5-pin connector.
19. Here's a photo of my fuel supply system. I'm running a Walbro GSL394 external pump, Russell pre-filter with a cleanable screen (40-micron?), and a Canton CM-15 fuel filter mounted after the pump with a 1-micron element. It's all mounted with rubber insulated clamps and is much quieter than when it was mounted to the bulkhead behind the seat. If I run the tank low enough I can change the CM-15 element without spilling any fuel.
20. Paul - I sent you a PM.
21. Red Duck - Sorry for the late response to your PM. I will call you later in the week to discuss my experience with CT DMV.
22. Dean - Should be similar to the MGA info here: ttp://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/of100.htm
23. Just read in the production evolution section of my "The Magnificent 7" book that Caterham modified the ignition timing to allow the use of unleaded in 1989. This seems to verify what Roger King said in his post from the above thread. I had my '64 MGB cylinder head upgraded to hardened valve seats on the exhaust and it wasn't that expensive. Hope this helps.
24. I can't say for sure but I don't think your cylinder head is set up for unleaded. Here's a thread from Blatchat that addresses the unleaded issue. Pay attention to the post by Roger King who, if I remember correctly, is a pretty well regarded Xflow engine builder in the UK. http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?id=149691
