  1. Welcome Bill. I know this isn't the exact size you're looking for, but British Wire Wheel carries Vredestein Sprint+ tires in a 155x13 size. It might be worth checking into due to the variation in width and height between the various manufacturers. Those are the tires I'm going to use if I decide to stick with 165x14 instead of 185/70x14 on my '64 MGB. Here's the link: http://www.britishwirewheel.com/tires.htm Bruce :7drive:
  2. That is sweet! Somebody needs to buy that thing and run it!! Bruce :7drive:
  3. "How about a trivia question: What does (did) "SU" stand for?" Pretty easy for someone who's been messing with British cars for 35 years or so. It stands for Skinners Union. Named after the Skinner brothers who were in the leather business. They started making the early SU carbs with a leather bellows instead of the later dashpot assy. They're actually pretty good carbs if you understand them, set them up properly, and then leave them alone. The biggest issue with them is worn throttle shafts creating vacuum leaks. And don't forget to top up the dashpots with the proper oil every couple weeks or so! Bruce :7drive:
  4. Lowflyer, I think you're correct. I think some of the early S2's that came to the US had BMC A-series motors in 948cc capacity. I remember reading an article in R&T about a 7 America that had flared fenders and it definitely had a 948cc motor. Not sure if it was a S1 or S2. But I checked on the Simple Sevens site and found this S2 here, as well as others with BMC motors: http://www.simplesevens.org/grosslight.htm With Weber carbs I'm sure it's one of the Ford motors though. Hope to see some pictures at some point!! Bruce :7drive:
  5. Did anybody else think the nose looked similar to the Ferrari 156? http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/625514261_fer156c.jpeg Bruce :7drive:
  6. Snow? Who says we get snow in New England?? http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/838946604_IMG_9361R.jpg Cool video Martin, thanks for sharing! I can't wait for spring!! Bruce :7drive:
  7. "You know what I don't like about this car? The headlights...the smaller multi-pod ones just don't do it for me. " :iagree: Those things are hideous. I do like the wheels though!! Bruce :7drive:
  8. Ahhh, the good old days!!! Bruce :7drive:
  9. Welcome Graham. Your car looks real nice! Went to your site and watched the video and it sounded nice too!! Are those early TR2 taillights you're using? Bruce :7drive:
  10. The green SoCal one has been relisted: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220200310528 Bruce :7drive:
  11. Found this on eBay. No affiliation, etc... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Superformance-S1-Lotus-Super-7-Clone_W0QQitemZ190196697291QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190196697291 Bruce :7drive:
  12. Hi Jon, Won't be in Philly on Sunday, but tell us about the wheels?? Bruce :7drive:
  13. Wow, nice video!! Great action, nice camera angles, especially liked the footage of Spa in the wet....that must have been fun!! Thanks for sharing! Bruce :7drive:
  14. Those Elites are beautiful aren't they!! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/479453605_IMG_0970.JPG Bruce :7drive:
  15. Welcome aboard John! I've enjoyed the Simple Sevens site over the years so a personal thank you for that!! I have a Birkin that I just recently registered, but I keep hoping that someday I'll be able to add an early Lotus 7 to the stable. I even have a 948cc motor and smooth case gearbox in the basement that might come in handy!! Bruce :7fume:
  16. "A new Colorado law went into effect on July 1, 2007 that exempts kit cars from state emissions checking." We had the same law go into effect in Connecticut on the same date! Bruce :7drive:
  17. I must admit that if it were anybody but the Giants, I would have been rooting for the Patriots. But it sure was satisfying to see the Giants defense come up big against the 'unstoppable' Patriots offense and it was good to see Eli Manning get the critics off his back! And it sure did help to get the bitter taste out of my mouth after their poor showing against the Ravens back in '00-'01!! Bruce :7drive:
  18. "sparecr wrote: Would I sell it to get a S2 or 3 yes, would I sell it just to sell it, no." "It's going to sound like blasphemy, but I would also consider selling Orange to get the right S2 or S3. There, I've said it." Like John and Al wrote, I've often thought of getting one of the original S1-S3 Lotus'. But my mind keeps going back to reading about Peter Egan's adventures with his Lotus 7's in R&T and how there always seemed to be a Lotus 7 frame twisted like a banana hanging in the back of the garage, or something like that! I guess the important thing would be getting the "right" one... Bruce :7drive:
  19. "Sounds good, I'll be there, Kevin Kearney DSK7 " - Glad you can make it Kevin, it'll be nice to have another se7en brand there! For those who don't know what a DSK7 is, check out this site: http://www.simplesevens.org/DSK/ Bruce :7drive:
  20. "FWIW, John D. doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of that one British Car dealer in CT." I looked at a Bugeye Sprite vintage race car he had for sale back around 1990 and to me it was way overpriced for the quality of the car. I also talked to a couple vintage racers at LRP that were less than impressed with the cars they had just bought from him. He HAS been in business for a long time though, so he must be doing something right.... Check out this Lotus 7 (Birkin!) ad: http://www.newenglandclassics.com/index.tpl?action=inventory&id=387 Gee, do you think my Birkin is worth that much? I only have 450 miles on mine!! Bruce :7drive:
  21. "Also, if anyone knows of any other Series 2 or 2 1/2 cars for sale, please post them up here. I have a friend who may be interested." Al - I don't know if you looked further down on the site, but there were a couple of S2's that looked like they were still for sale. It might be worth checking... http://www.simplesevens.org/lillehamer.htm http://www.simplesevens.org/iriks.htm Bruce :7drive:
  22. "Ok, count us in at a 90% possibility of showing up." - Hope you both can make it. Nancy and I will definitely be there on Saturday, and it'd be good to have another Birkin there!! Bruce :7drive:
  23. It was bid to $3050 but the "reserve not met" means that it it didn't meet the seller's minimum bid. In other words it didn't sell. I think the seller could try to negotiate with the highest bidder or try relisting it with the same or lower reserve. It would be interesting to see the car in person to try to determine what would actually be salvageable. Maybe it has a Quaife tranny, lightweight flywheel, or some other good stuff, but I don't recall seeing it mentioned in the ad. There's certainly a lot of scrap metal there! Bruce :7fume:
  24. I always enjoyed watching outfielders with strong arms. The guys that I've enjoyed over the years would include Roberto Clemente (didn't get to see a lot of him), Dwight Evans, Dave Parker, Jesse Barfield, Andruw Jones and now Ichiro. Ichiro may not have the strongest, but he's very accurate and I love the way he plays the game!! Bruce :7drive:
