  1. Mike - actually thought about you and your track day excursions this morning when I read the BaT November newsletter and the announcement of their sale to Ginetta. No Caterham’s in 2019. Will you continue with them driving a Ginetta? Oh, and Brands Hatch looks fantastic. Bit nippy? Steve
  2. Mike - was catching up on this thread, and had gone through the pics when I thought “wait, that’s me driving Mike’s CSR!”. And yes, I loved the extra HP! Engine is incredibly responsive, and seems happy to rev. Thanks again for for the opportunity to drive a great Seven. Steve
  3. It’s been a long weekend and particularly long Sunday, but I registered at 11:55 ET, thus avoiding the late fee. Still have more stuff to complete than I’d like, but should be leaving noon-ish Tuesday with the plan being to arrive prior to karting on Wednesday. Steve
  4. I used Passport to ship my Caterham from Denver to St. Louis, and was happy with their service. However, it was 13 years ago so not sure how useful a recommendation it is. Steve
  5. Stewart- glad to hear you’re recovered, but sorry you’re selling the Seven. PM sent. Steve
  6. Bill - welcome to Seven’s ownership and the wonders of the Crossflow. You probably have either a 233 or 244 cam, both of which I think result in an idle more around 1000 rpm or so. I have the 244 and my idle is usually around there. I just use Fram filter PH3614. Any equivalent should also fit. I use natural Valvoline VR-1 High Zinc Racing oil, 20w-50. It’s obviously on the heavy side, but lots out there about how pushrod engines like zinc. Hope pe that helps. Enjoy! Steve
  7. Pull the grommet. It will easily fit through the hole then. It’s not hard to refit the grommet. I do this every year when I polish my Seven. Steve
  8. There also should be multiple mounting positions for the pedals. Believe my 1998 has two, but seem to remember also reading of three positions. Steve
  9. The Crossflow was used in the Ford Pinto circa 1971-72. Most auto parts stores still carry parts for it. Look for the 1.6 liter engine option. I’ve purchased parts for my Crossflow from Rockauto, NAPA, and Advanced Auto. You can also give Dave Bean Engineering a call. Great people, excellent service, and not bad prices in my opinion. http://davebean.com/ Steve
  10. I noticed that no one has chimed in on the aluminum polishing, so thought I’d share my experience. I’ve been polishing now for 13 years, and actually bought a Mallock race car that is polished aluminum. So, take that into account. I’ve used Nuvite polish for about the last 10 years. I started with Mothers, but got caught up in the polishing and did some research that resulted in using the Nuvite. It comes in different grades, so the coarser grade can be used to bring back the finish on aluminum that hasn’t been polished for some time. Then you follow it up with the fine grade to remove the scratches the coarse grade leaves. You definitely don’t want to do the car by hand. Some type of polisher should be purchased. I first bought the Porter Cable Random Orbit 7424, which I still use. About 5 years ago I bought a Cyclo polisher. The Nuvite and Cyclo polisher, as well as other polishing products and info, can be purchased from Perfect Polish: https://www.perfectpolish.com/ Over the years, I’ve taken more and more of the car apart before I polish. I’ve found that the more is removed, the easier the access is. You’ll want to first get the car on jack stands as high as possible, primarily to save your back. I then remove the wheels, all fenders, the windshield and stanchions, and the exhaust from the headers back. I polish the windshield frame and stanchions off the car. I use blue painters tape to mask off anywhere I don’t want polish - for instance the windshield wiper mounts and the top of the interior sides. For me, it’s a full weekend plus to complete the polishing. It has gotten easier and faster. And wear clothes you don’t care about. It’s pretty messy. I wear latex gloves to keep my hands from being black for a week. Once a year allows me to just polish using the Nuvite S, and not have to compound with the coarser grade. It is a fair amount of work, but worth it - at least to me. YMMV Steve
  11. Ran across these Jenvey throttle bodies a few days ago. I enjoy my old school Crossflow with Weber’s, but confess this has my interest. https://store.jenvey.co.uk/heritage-twin-tbody-40-48mm-pair-tdp40-48 And available from this side of the pond. https://foxinjection.com/products/heritage-throttle-body Steve
  12. Depending on your response here, you might also try the California Caterham Club: http://californiacaterhamclub.com/
  13. Think I read the same advice. My recollection is that doing that left them looser than I was comfortable with. Have you you taken them off yet? If not, maybe get a feel for how much you can wiggle the carbs up and down, and aim to replicate that. You can also take a measurement of the gap between the plate and the carb, or the plate and the manifold (although they should be the same). I decided that the important part was that they be able to move-but not fall off. Steve
  14. Mike - plan on upholding the honor of the Crossflow in the Caterham. Steve
  15. Ok Croc, have you fessed up on another post? If not, what have you added to your stable? Steve
  16. Tom - I haven't been able to find anything that is the right size. :leaving:
  17. Finally, a few shots of the view from Don's beautiful home: http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12944&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12945&stc=1
  18. And for those wondering why that guy brought a Mallock (), here is what I've brought in the past, and expect I will bring again next year. It too is shiny. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12943&stc=1
  19. I finally had a chance to install my "Polisher" awards, and I have to say they are a stunning addition to the Mallock's interior: http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12942&stc=1
  20. Mike/Tom - Just registered with the Mallock. This should remove me from contention for the "Polisher Award". Steve
  21. A Caterham 21 has been listed on Bring A Trailer. http://bringatrailer.com/2016/12/28/rare-seven-gt-1999-caterham-21/?blm=4 Haven't seen one listed before. Located in Norway. Steve
  22. Are they only available as rolling assembled chassis, or can you still purchase as a kit and assemble yourself? Seems like the kit option went away with Superformance. Steve
  23. It has a 1600 Crossflow with a full race build. Steel crank, Carillo rods, 12:5 CR, etc. About 150 hp. The driver is definitely the weak link. The plan was to bring it NJMP for last July's Seven event, but I had a clutch issue that I didn't get repaired in time. Schedule permitting, my plan is to bring it this year.
