  1. MV8- thanks for your input. He did change the dowels, I just assumed that the counter sink was to assist with placement. Replacing with the normal bolts and washers makes sense, as the bevel will only increase spreading force as it’s tightened. Guess I should do that on both sides, right?
  2. When I had the Crossflow in my Mallock rebuilt, I asked the engine builder to align the bell housing. When I picked up the engine, I found that he had counter sunk the top two mounting points of the bell housing, removing a LOT of material. Yesterday I was mating the trans with the engine. I tightened the bolts in stages, and then torqued them. The last one was the top right, and I realized I had passed where the torque point was but no click from the wrench. I stopped and looked, and saw that I had a hairline crack across the top of the mounting point, at which point I backed off the bolt. I have a race in two weeks. Cancel, pull it apart and get it fixed? Have no idea who could do that work, as after welding it would need to be re-countersunk. Liklihood of it getting worse if I race? Race and monitor it? I’ll get a better picture later today.
  3. I’m surprised the Raceline mounts create this issue. Have you contacted them? Is the custom cam cover (which I think is great) taller than stock?
  4. Using soft luggage, I’ve just put the doors in the boot. I fold up the hood and slide it between the passenger seat and the bulkhead. This recently worked on a 3 day trip, even with a passenger. I brought the half hood too, but ended up putting on the full hood for a VERY wet day of driving.
  5. I just had my Rocket box refreshed by Scott Young, and give him a AAA rating. Website is: https://www.sy-gearboxes.com/ Steve
  6. What block, 711M? AX? Looks like a Scat crank, forged pistons, after market rods, dry sump, DCOE 40’s, light flywheel. I have the Kent 244 in the Crossflow in my Seven. Dual springs? Assume the CR supports pump gas? Looks like a great engine, solid 150+ hp spec I think.
  7. Congrats on the purchase, and assume this is Stuart’s/Jeff’s Seven. Quick google for vintage race car prep near Boston returned this: https://ktrmotorsports.com Not sure Ayer is truly considered in the Boston area, but still may not be too far from you. Steve
  8. So, does this mean I can only expect another 7 years of ownership with my Seven? We both bought our first Seven at around the same time. Of course, you cycled through them, and I’m still on my first! I will not be surprised if you end up returning to the fold, but glad in the mean time that you will continue to hang out here. Steve
  9. I bought a set of these probably 10 years ago, maybe more. They still look new. https://classicsiliconehoses.uk/wp-content/gallery/uploads/caterham-ford-xflow-1700-classic-black-r.jpg Steve
  10. I experienced the trans oil leaking several times, and then started to separate the engine before removal. But last year I purchased these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P0U04G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I used them when I I removed the engine in the Mallock last month, and not a drop of trans fluid leaked out. I was amazed, and pleasantly surprised. Steve
  11. In case you want a back up engine. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/cosworth-ybm-2-0/
  12. Graham - yes, in retrospect Gateway was not the optimal track for my first track day. It is definitely on the dangerous side, with extremely limited runoff areas and lots of concrete walls. TBH, I don’t run there anymore. Mike - Well, I actually bought the car in 2004 for my 50th birthday, but couldn’t get it shipped from Denver until Jan. 2005. So, sort of 18 years.😊 Steve
  13. My intro to track days was with Nathan. The spring after I purchased my Caterham, LOG was in St. Louis. Nathan was working at RMSCI, and he and Ben Wofford came to St. Louis. As part of LOG there was a track day at Gateway, and I think Nathan came out with me during my first session, as well as providing some coaching. What I really remember was going out with him during his last session, and getting a sense of what it was like to truly drive on track.
  14. That’s what I thought. Ask Nathan as I’m pretty sure he drove one year. Maybe not 2009.
  15. Mike - wasn’t your car in a 24 hour race (Buttonwillow?), which is why it has the large gas tank? As I remember, Nathan drove a Caterham in that race. Your car? Think they ran a Caterham 2 years in a row, but not sure Nathan drove both years. Lots of rain one of the years. Apologies for the mini thread hi-jack. Steve
  16. Unfortunately, think I need to be a maybe. Date conflicts with a VSCDA race at Road America. However, given the seemingly never ending issues with the Mallock, I’m not counting myself out yet. Steve

  18. Couldn’t find the website for the one in the US, but here is evidence that you are not alone. 😊 https://purplemeanie.co.uk Steve
  19. I think I’ve read of people going to bicycle shops where they can replace the cable and retain the existing housing. Might be worth a call. Steve
  20. I replaced mine ( S3- Crossflow) using a jack. It was fairly early in my ownership, and I remember it being a longer and more frustrating job than I expected. But, ultimately it worked.
  21. Yes, the plan is to be at Blackhawk in June. Actually, the plan is to make the entire VSCDA season, which would be a first. My ownership of the Mallock has been, ummm….challenging. So, we’ll see how the season goes. Right now, I just want to get it all back together for Gingerman. Steve
  22. Thanks. I had printed out a plumbing size sheet from BAT, and it seemed like the pump port was 3/8”, although I expected it to be 1/2”. So you think the hose end is also BSP? This is me at Blackhawk in 2020, so probably. 😊 That was right before the S2000 went flying by me.
  23. Hoping the collective wisdom of this forum can solve my plumbing challenge. I had the Crossflow in my Mallock rebuilt, and the engine builder did not replace the fitting on the side of the engine block and one of the fittings on the front mounted oil pump with what I left him. So, I want to replace them with what matches the existing female hose ends. Think I have the block figured out. I need a 1/4” BSP male/-8 AN male fitting, and am confident on that one. The female hose end definitely is -8, and BSP seems correct for the engine block side. Titan no longer makes the front mount oil pumps, and can’t seem to find any literature that specifies the port size. But, it seems to be 3/8” BSP. It’s the female hose end that really has me stumped. It’s a convex female. A spare male/male adapter kicking around my garage seems to fit, but that style of fitting seems to be either NPTxNPT, BSPxBSP, or BSPxNPT. The female hose end is not chamfered, but is flat, so it’s not AN? Could it be metric? Or should I just replace the hose, and use a male/male 3/8”BSP/-8 AN with a -8 AN hose barb? All these fittings were on the car when I purchased it. I’m hardly Carroll Smith to begin with, and I HATE plumbing. Any and all thoughts are appreciated. First pic is the hose fitting in question, and the incorrect fitting in the pump as returned by the engine builder. Fourth pic is the fitting with a male/male adapter I had lying around that seemed to fit the hose end. Last pic is the incorrect fitting removed from the pump.
  24. I mounted mine under the carbs. My ‘98 has a mounting bracket for the windshield washer fluid reservoir, which I never used, under the carbs. Removed the reservoir and drilled a few holes in the bracket for the pressure regulator. Steve
  25. Are you pushing the entire hoist, or “swinging” the trans towards the engine? If you’re “swinging” it, then the height will change. Believe the last time I did this, I put the trans on my jack and balanced it with one hand while I moved the jack/trans towards the engine. Even easier to do it that way if you have another pair of hands. Thought I’d throw another option out there. 😊 Oh, and make sure you have both positioning dowels in either the block or the bellhousing. Steve
