  1. There is a quip at the back of the article "Drop a line to RT&@roadandtrack.com if you've got a Seven-friendly track or street event we should check out." Should we reach out to them about NJMP event? It would be neat to see the group shot in a magazine.
  2. Going by the butt-stimator I'd say that 500 seems too low but 1000 (averaging 20 a state) seems too high. Not a crazy number for major states like NY or California but considering for it to be an average many states would need more than 20 to offset the North Dakota type states with the count of 1? 2? Which doesn't seem reasonable.
  3. There is an old video of Caterham where they say they import about ~50 units a year to USA. I would have thought that numbers would have increased with popularity but Road & Track is building one and they reference that there are 21 sales "this year". Makes me wonder if you had to guess where would you put ownership total for the cars in the states? If we were to estimate ~50 a year on average over the last ~40 years (less in earlier, more in the latter), that would put us at about ~2000.
  4. Congrats. Need anymore advice? Looking at new or used? Do you plan to attend this* years NJMP?
  5. Hi and welcome. Glad to have another NE poster on the forum. I think we might have enough in the Tristate/NE area for us to actually have an event to meet up other than NJMP during the year. Croc any thoughts to this? Maybe something in or around the city? Maybe have our own 7's day? :smilielol5:
  6. Here is what my TWM looks like Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk
  7. I think it's an honorable thought, but I don't think it will work out in the end, even if it does it would be a marginal difference. I have an smallish order pending from Redline and I'm not too far from you but I'm not certain it would make any difference or whether it can even be combined with Chris from Redline if you're using CC. However bump for you in case it works better for somebody else.
  8. I also got a hold of the original painter of the car and he helped shine some line on what colors were used on mine. BS538 British Standard post office red and white just being Caterham white.
  9. Are you on Facebook on the Caterham and Lotus 7 group? There was a thread on the center caps happening there and a very nice gentleman Phil Waters agreed to make me one more set. I'd message him if I were you. Mine is either already posted or is about to be posted. He made mine in black but could make them in red for me. If yours are black it might make more sense to ship black ones to you and just have me make another set in red like he wanted to originally.
  10. While I agree with a "hot rod"/menacing look with the roof up, I certainly like it with Aero a lot more and this only gets used out of necessity of weather (cold/rain). Luckily it's a quick swap between Aero and windshield.
  11. I'm excited. My "impossible to source" center caps SLR wheel replacements are on the way
  12. Yep. Even your top one appears a bit more sloped that what I've seen Here is my old one vs random
  13. The pictured ones are the ones that I bought and I fell into that trap. They are NOT date stamped or FIA approved. As the description (now) reads. They will have no date stamps on them. Don't be like me and have to buy belts on the way down to the track and have to swap them at 11:30 at night in the hotel parking lot. (not fun)
  14. To put pictures to this discussion and hopefully get everybody on the same page I'll reference the guys for whom it's very important to know what cage you have and what has been ever offered, to get right product/fit for customer SBF7's https://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/caterham-classifications-12-w.asp All listed in the link with pictures
  15. It appears we are talking about slope towards the middle of the car on the vertical sides. If that's the case then yes older FIA were vertical that could accept Petty strut, new ones are "sloping in" with a more of a cone shape. I believe their height is the same, as well as the "rake/slope" towards the front of the car.
  16. I'm fairly certain all Caterham roll bars are "sloping" towards the front of the car since at least the 90s. (not counting full cages) If there are two different version of aggression of slope, thats beyond my knowledge. I have an imperial version dual diagonal I ordered earlier in the year, I didn't remember having a big decision in choosing it. Here is what I ordered 79032U https://caterhamparts.co.uk/track-day-bars/2728-roll-over-bar-fia-s3-l-a-rhd.html
  17. Hello track experts. Trying to narrow down a second set of wheels and or tires options for the 7 for the obvious occasional track day. I'd like to stick to 13's but options are limited and nice options are very expensive. Limited options for tires doesn't help. I have a wide variety of 4x100 15's. They aren't fancy but they will do the best job bang for the buck considering I already have them. Is it a reasonable option to use 15's with an adapter? Does it need to be hub centric? Selection for 15's is much easier isn't it? I think 15's I have now are 0 offset and worst case scenario they won't work either way but I'm certainly at least willing to try/mock them up after getting an adapter. Thanks
  18. Did safety track on my bikes many times and loved it. Did it once in the 7 last year and it was... underwhelming. It's worth doing due to how close it is, but it's without a doubt more of a motorcycle track than a car track. I also got a DRZ400SM btw. Unfortunately it's down for a while after timing chain failed.
  19. Hi! You’re kind of local to me. You ever come up to Albany area?
  20. Call? A person? Is that like using your voice to transfer a text message? Can they prime it over? You're really under selling the millennial in me when I say there is no "easy way to order".
  21. I disagree. It's "quirks and features" which a 7 has plenty. He did an Atom not too long ago and 7 has far more interesting tid bits to cover due to its history. Use of wood in assembly, caravan tail lights etc. Watching him drive it with an aero screen wouldn't be boring either.
  22. California forum is dead I've gotten a hold of him and I'm on his radar but he doesn't fly our to NE that often. Still looking for somebody in SoCal
  23. I just wish there was an easy direct way to order Avon's. I went with Toyos 888R's and they did their job but I was never happy with the sizing. Front's had too large of a side wall and the rears were too narrow with too small of a side wall. Max available is 225 while Avon's were 245's for the back. I'm due for a new set of tires (after only one season?! 3 track days must have killed them) and trying to find easy ways to get back into Avon's without having to order from England.
  24. Jim, I considered it. Unfortunately closest one is over an hour + away. Meaning to pick it up > back home to hook > track > home to unhook> return truck > back home adds about ~5 hours worth of work/driving making it an ineffective option. Car has proven to do about ~2000 pounds so far with basic setup on my smaller steel enclosed and 3 bikes in it without brakes on single axle. Aluminum trailer (2000lbs) and Caterham (1500lbs) and other misc shouldn't be much over 4000lbs. I have good confidence it should be able to handle it reasonably well after I'm done with the setup. Again stock rating on the XC70 is 3300, same chassis XC90 is rated for 5000. Only wild card is pure physics of a huge/tall/long trailer behind my car. (it has extra tall ceilings too, luckily V nose and slant nose). Croc, I couldn't find any references to Steve's XC70 on the forum or any pictures.
  25. Hm. I have been waiting on a Black Friday sale for this model Tekonsha 90195 P3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P17NXQ/ref=psdc_15737671_t1_B007O5GXOG for sometime where I expect it to be about $100 according to the price history. I'm not familiar with your model at all or whether RF is an avenue I'd rather pursue and what the advantages would be. I do also have LED lights on the trailer as well.
