Congrats! Why just a band and not a band/stripe down the middle?

Nice for you to have an active representation in the community! Is a Zetec > Jenvey ITB's throttle cable something you guys can source? I'm looking for a spare as throttle cables seem to be a rather common problem to encounter in the middle of nowhere. Good luck on your ventures! I'm sure I'll be contacting you for other stuff otherwise. Shipping things from UK gets old.

Small feet/small build is to my advantage for one of the first times in my life with this car. I wear and use regular shoes without an issue. I think work/dress shoes were the only concern so far. (size ~8) Not contributing to the discussion, just humble brag about "short comings" :smilielol5:

I love the tool. Did mine in most configurations. A few things can't be replicated but its close enough (you can't get rid of fender blinkers which are new standard, I can't replicate red interior, old roll cage with single diagonal, my SLR wheels, etc) http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=15176&stc=1 Use the windows snipping tool as the easiest way.

It is indeed his car after Chip sold it to him Interesting. Further proves the point that no two 7's are alike. Mine has "prisoner" red carpet and custom red Tillets which I still can't figure out who did them, besides other unique features. I'm not picking on ya, I still clearly consider mine an SLR even though purists on the other side of the pond wouldn't have it. I don't consider it "true enough" to have the plaque nor do I really care for it. Good conversation piece but doesn't really "flow" with other aesthetics. Back to the original point, I'll gladly participate in a registry. I think there are quite a few in NY and the surrounding tri state area or so. I definitely know of one in Buffalo (who I bought the Aero screen from) and DMV told me there are a few other registered ones in the greater area.

Some muddy waters on the issue According to the Caterham archivist himself in regards to my car when I started a debate on PH "Your car is a USA version of the Superlight R. The main differences vs the standard SLR spec are the engine (Zetec vs VHPD) and exhaust (rear exit vs side exit). Another difference with the standard SLR spec is you have a 5-speed box vs the standard 6-speed. Its not clear whether 5-speed was the standard USA spec – but all 3 USA SLRs I have looked at recently have 5-speed boxes. Reference the discussion on Pistonheads, I have records of plaques numbers for 127 SLRs. These do not include any USA SLRs, and in fact only 3 of the cars are RHD models: one each to Belgium, Jordan & Venezuela. The last issue is actually #129, as there is no record of issuance of numbers 7 or 52. Of the 127, 60 were supplied as complete kits and 67 were factory built. The kits had chassis numbers ending 2****, whilst the factory built examples had chassis numbers ending 3****. There was no dedicated chassis number sequence for the SLR model (for example #22116 is a 1.6 K-Series, #22118 is a R500). The chassis numbering is not entirely random, but neither is it sequential – although generally later plaque numbered cars have higher chassis numbers. If it had been allocated a plaque number, you are would have been around #103." According to the builder on the state side of things, there was no distinction between SL and SLR on the state side of things, they were interchangeable terms. So I'm half right it seems with the information that I had. Here is a "sister car" to mine that was built at the same place to a very similar spec around the same time. It even had a plaque but still had the spare wheel carrier which is an abomination for an SLR http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?9592-2000-Caterham-Superlight-R&highlight=superlight

I don't believe there is one. This is one of the most compelling places to have most owners in one place and I don't recall seeing one here. With that said, if you really want it to be successful it would need to be an independent site to which you can link from forums and/or facebook, where people would be able to add themselves without further registration. (if they aren't a forum member for example). Internet is a fickle thing and people are easily discouraged to do things even if it requres a 30 second registration, especially if there isn't a direct benefit for them for doing so. Edit: I saw that you have international in there as well. There is a registry of sorts for SLR's and other special models. US doesn't apply as even if you have a "real superlight R" they don't qualify due to their nature of shipping and assembly. They get built as one by request of new owner but not as a factory build, so they are essentially replicas, which is what mine is. This is why some came with rear spare wheels even though an SLR would never have one and the motor is US Zetec instead of a UK version. http://www.thecaterhamregister.net/ And I believe other forums have started some sort of a rollcall for themselves on the UK side of things.

2019 Sevens HPDE - Save the Date for June 28-30, 2019

Just went to Caterham parts to price it out. It looks reasonable and might add it to the currently pending order already (with Chris @ Redline) I've done the job and it really was quite a major PITA for a single person to align the holes and every time taking the seat in and out I end up further scuffing out the center panel cover and would rather not go through it. Isn't there a way to re-tech the belts? I've heard of the procedure never done it. Wouldn't be surprised if it requires taking them off and sending them somewhere, which is still same amount of work. Drips are minor and occasional. A few drops an hour at most. If the diaper solution is an accepted solution, it could be the bandaid that prevents this from being a preventing issue. -

Good to know. Looks like I'm out. Harnesses are from 2001 and i have small drip from the bell housing that I doubt I'll troubleshoot/fix in time. It would either be the rear main seal on engine or one of the main quaife seals. -
Thanks for sharing! Very cool

Just got my delivery of Bigheads as well, waiting on actual new wings to appear to replace the bolted in ones now. Were a little hard to source but thats my plan. What did you end up using for bonding? Sikaflex 292? or Sikaflex 221 or the 3m stuff?

In order to give the constructive wife advice we need to address this as systematically as we do everything else. Whats the year/make/model? How often is maintenance done? Is trade in an option or you want to keep this one? When her head gasket blows, is the rebuild more or less expensive than the Zetec?

I agree with Croc I actually own a Duratec and a super charger for it but I don't think I'll ever commit to going out the different side, new wiring, new hood new ECU etc. With that said, I also happen to have an M62 if I recall supercharger that I acquired from the previous owner at the time of purchase to use on the Zetec. This is as good a time and place to ask this, but how come you rarely if ever see SC'ed Zetecs? Stock bottom end has got to be able to handle ~5 to 9 psi (guesstimating) for another 50 horse? Shouldn't be that much different than 620R setup other than maybe a tighter fit? This could be a reasonable solution to your problem looking for more HP without a crazy build, OP, if Croc gives it blessing.

I ran a forum for about 6 years. Total content was about 10x the size of USA7's (over a million posts) and in it's peak I would see over 1000 a day. I witnessed the decline first hand about 4 years ago now, not only on mine but on the others I used to frequent. Whether it be facebook or other means, the forum hay day is over. I'm glad to see people still regularly frequent here and address concerns and share their thoughts. It's true, in the end of it all, being an enthusiast is a very social thing. You can have the nicest car in the world but if you're only one person on the island with it, it's not quite the same.

It's a sad combinations of forums dying as a mean of web communication and seasonal limitations. No reason to talk about 7's when you put yours away and forget about it. Also hard for things to break when they aren't being operated. Facebook having an active British 7 community only further hurts need of chatting in the threads. Feel free to be a leader and reply to some threads. Conversation sparks further conversation.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing! As I found out recently on the FB group I'll share my new knowledge > Your hood might not lined up too well once closed/latched on the front. It will "bow out" at the mounts. That's "normal". My $.02

Glad to see another north eastern owner!

Ah fair enough. CC or SBFS? Potential buyers would like to know I'm sure. Also pictures?

I'm going to go offtopic here but why did you have an S5/SV cover if you have an S3? I'm currently debating between light duty and split heavy duty versions on softbits for sevens. Split is probably the one that makes more sense to use with the Aeroscreen.

If only it was S3 glws
