Is it a classic with the wide track front suspension? If so, you probably got a cover for the standard width suspension. Skip

I hope your name and email address were kept confidential. You do not want an officer with a grudge knowing who you are and where you live and what you drive, BTDT. That said, congratulations for having the balls to take action and to the police for following up. Skip

If banjo29 doesn't want it, I'll take it. It looks like it will bolt up to the strap over the scuttle for my new Brooklands screens. Skip

I've been slowly working my way through the 50th Anniversary edition of AutoWeek magazine and spotted a picture of Alaskossie (Tom Meacham) in 50 Readers/50 States. He is shown with his '95 Ford Escort Cosworth 4 x 4 and talks about driving the Alaska highway in 1967 when it was 1,100 miles of dirt road. Congrats Tom! Skip

Here's the description and the ebay link: Available for sale is an extremely rare Westfield Seven SE with only 10K original miles. The Westfield is built in England copying the famous Lotus Super Seven. The car is titled in PA as a 1965 Lotus. The car was built in 1996 and has been owned by the owner of the dealership for the last 10 years. It is a 1600 cc 155 hp English Ford (Cortina) engine with a 5 speed transmission. It is equipped with Weber carbs and headers as standard equipment on the higher horse power engine. More information can be found on the Westfield Sportscar website, www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk. The car weighs just 1350 pounds. The Westfield is very similar to a Caterham but with a fiberglass body. The car includes the convertible top and side curtains. The car is in excellent condition, runs fine. It needs some detailing to be perfect. The car can be seen at Don Rosen Imports, Conshohocken, PA. Contact Keith Shaw at 610 279 4100. PA and NJ buyers must pay state sales tax and registration fees. All other states must pay $75.00 for a PA transit tag. All buyers must have a valid drivers license and insurance. ebay link Skip

Siamese twins walk into a pub in Ontario , Canada and park themselves on a bar stool. One of them says to the innkeeper, "Don't mind us, we're joined at the hip. I'm Joe, he's Jim, we'll have two Molson Canadian beers, draft please" The innkeeper, feeling slightly awkward, tries to make polite conversation while pouring the beers. "Been on holiday yet, boys?" "Off to England next month," says Joe. "We go to England every year and hire a car and drive for miles, don't we, Jim?" Jim agrees. "Ah, England , "says the innkeeper." Wonderful country... the history, the beer, the culture..." "Nah, we don't like that British crap," says Joe. "Hamburgers & Molson's beer, that's us, eh Jim? And we can't stand the English - they're arrogant and rude." "So why keep going to England ?" asks the innkeeper. Joe replies, "It's the only chance Jim gets to drive."

I wanna hear what it sounds like. How'd you like to have to kick start that motor. One kick back and it would put you in orbit. Skip

Loren, Thanks to you and all the others that participated in this worthy endeavor. I'll bet the rides you and Rob gave them in the Se7ens really caused some attitude adjustments! How long before they start cranking out their own version? Skip

Only a few of them had the V8s. I don't believe the V8 version was ever sold in the states but some were brought in by individual owners. There was also an MGC GT version with an inline six. Skip

West Coast Lotus Meet I asked if LSIS were welcome to attend and got this answer: Yes! 7 derivatives are absolute welcome, as are Eleven and 23 replicas. We will have a separate class for Lotus replicas and Caterhams. I am not affiliated with this group, just passing on the info received in a Lotus Colorado email. Skip

I have found the Toyo Proxis T1S to be very good wet and dry tires. It takes very deep water to hydroplane them. They are out of production but I have heard good things about their replacement, the T1R. I've run the T1S on my turbo Miata for years now, probably on the 3rd or 4th set. I used them as track tires and they are probably the next best thing to an R compound. I used to get 8 - 10 track days and 10 - 12k street miles on a set on the (relatively) heavy Miata. A side benefit is the very good ride due to softer sidewalls for which you give up a bit of turn in quickness. I ran a set of the RA1s as street and track tires, they lasted about 3k miles and 5 track days. Not great in the rain when full treaded, totally useless when the tread starts wearing off. Great fun in the canyons while they lasted. Skip

Mike, I have a set of 5 like the one below. Silver finish, about 2,000 miles on them. Avon ZZ3(?) tires optional. EM or PM me if you are interested. Skip http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1614678473_Cat 16s.jpg

Count me in for a track day. Makes it all the more attractive to drive so far for the event. $225 would be doable especially if there are only about 20 cars. That insures plenty of seat time for the money. What tracks are you considering? Skip

Need advice - what kit is the easiest home build?
scannon replied to twobone's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I agree the Top Gear build was staged as is most everything they do. I have had two Caterham dealers tell me that they can assemble a complete car in 40 manhours and that the average for someone who hadn't done it before would be around 100 hours. Skip -
How to get a FREE Miata engine and transmission. Find the local salvage auction's website (I use this one). Watch as they come along and when you see a low milage Miata ('00 is the best to work with) go and bid on it. Pull off the parts you need then strip out the rest and sell them on the Miata.net classifieds and Craigslist. I did this to get the engine for my Caterham and when all the parts were sold, I had an 18k engine and trans and about $1,500 over my costs to put towards the build. I've since done it again and now have a spare engine and trans sitting in the shop should I need it. Skip

Need advice - what kit is the easiest home build?
scannon replied to twobone's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I think the Caterham comes more fully assembled from the manufacturer than the others. The body skins are on and the colored parts are painted. Wiring is in place, you only have to add things like the lights and horn and plug in the engine computer and sensors. There is a segment of where they try to assemble a Caterham while the Stig is driving one from the factory to where they are working on the kit. Pretty funny but will give you an idea of what the major components are as they are assembled. The Caterham manuals are pretty evolved but you will still find things to scratch your head about. That's part of the fun and bonds you to the car. In one case quite literally, I was bonding a spacer onto the wind wings and slipped and my finger got in the super glue. Had to take the wing off the car and take it to the utility sink to soak it off my finger. Skip -
Its been done many times. I read about a fellow in the NE who did it twice, got caught the second time, they went back and investigated the first one and got him on that one as well. He lost the car and went to jail. Skip

Hi Chet, Love the rat rod look. The suggestion of red wheels and chrome hubcaps would really look sharp. In the spirit of rat rods, I have some parts you might be interested in for turboing your 1.8. Turbo exhaust manifold from an '04 Mazdaspeed Miata and the smallish intercooler as well as some of the plumbing you might be able to chop up and use. All of it is cheap. Let me know if you are interested. Skip 303-661-9914

Something got hit and pulverized at the French F1 race during Friday practice. Sharp RH turn and suddenly white things (feathers/fur?) are flying all over and a yellow mess is left at the apex. The residue was still there during the race. Nothing was said about it at the time and they showed it again after the race in the very last scene before signing off where they show the highlights of the day. Anyone hear what it was? Skip

I had a set of spacer/adaptors machined at a local shop to allow me to use my Miata track wheels on the Caterham. They are 28mm thick and adapt the 4 x 100 mm Miata wheels to the Caterham 4 x 4 1/4" hubs. Cost was about $50 each and they are hub centric to the wheels and on the hub side the tolerances are so tight that I have to smack them with a rubber mallet several times to get them off. It turned out that the front and rear hubs on the Cat are different and so I have a front set and a rear set. They look alot like the ezaccessory ones. Skip

Todd, Have you tried on a Caterham SV for size? AFAIK it is one of the largest Se7ens out there. I have size 12 feet and I actually moved the brake pedal closer to the throttle pedal for better heel and toe work. I think a size 13 or even a 14 would fit. I'm 5'10" and I have to move the seat forward about 4". A fellow who was 6'4" and 250 lb tried it for size last week and is now off dreaming about a Se7en again, having previously given up on them due to his size. Skip
