Morgan, What kind of car is that in picture #20? Skip

IIRC, the CBX drive comes off the middle of the crankshaft. Sounds like a good candiate for a rear engined Se7en. Another plus is with the air cooled CBX engine in the back, your feet won't get cooked like so many of us with our front engine water cooled Se7ens. Skip

Lucas, Prince of Darkness has apparently spread his influence to include Bosch alternators! Just look at it as an early bonding experience with your new car. It will be a good, fun story down the road. Skip BTW, one of the best vanity plates I have seen was on a Miata: NO LUCAS

Sal. Congratulations! It looks like a new car. The grins will just keep getting bigger now that you can drive it. Skip

Thanks roll a 7, that's one of the best Se7en videos I've seen. I agree with roll a 7, you need to ride in/drive (if possible) as many different kinds of Se7en as possible, you will know when the right one comes along. Skip

Honda makes great, reliable cars, no doubt. BUT, they aren't perfect. I bought a new 1983 Accord back when you paid a deposit, got on a list and they called you and told you when your car came in and what color it was. If you didn't want that color you got pushed down the list. I didn't even get to test drive it, I had to complete the sale before driving it. Within 500 ft of leaving the dealer I knew the car had problems. I brought it back to the dealer at 600 miles with 26 items on my list. The service writer refused to believe me, said Honda doesn't make lemons. Three trips to the dealer over a couple of months got about 1/3 of the items fixed. They never could get the hesitation on throttle tip in fixed which was the most annoying problem along with a nasty tendency for the rear to step out on right hand turns. After the 3rd visit I sold the car for a small loss and it was not until the CRX Si came out that I bought another one. Some of the items they replaced: gas tank - had a loose baffle rattling around in it. rear window - half of the defroster wires didn't work. door seals - the heater couldn't keep up with the cold air coming in around the door. stereo - wouldn't pick up FM stations. Hey Busa, I resemble that remark. I went back to my first post in the "Tell us about yourself" thread and found this lead off: "Hi, my name is Skip. I am an addict. I don't remember the first time I saw a Seven, it was a long time ago." You aren't helping the problem you know, first its the YouTube friends list and now this streaming thing. You are a (gasp) facilitator! I can't even get a decent fix as my Se7en is up on stands and I can't work on it and even if it was roadworthy the docs won't let me drive it. So, thanks and keep them coming, the YouTube vids and this forum is all that stands between me and cold turkey withdrawal, it ain't a pretty prospect. Skip

What the video didn't show was that the car has a jet engine along with the internal combustion engine. You can see the nozzle on the rear and some plumbing in the passenger cockpit. Here's a vid of it firing up the jet engine.

I've driven the FM Westie (1.6 Miata motor, no turbo) back to back with my Caterham SV (1.8 Miata motor with turbo) and I was very impressed with it. You can find their build and modification logs HERE. In a couple of ways it was superior to my Caterham. The steering was lower effort and had slightly better feel and feedback. The pedals were much better aligned for heel & toe work. It was suprisingly quick with the stock 1.6 motor, much better than I expected. I saw this car several times during its assembly and was impressed with the frame, weld quality and the use of the Miata diff and IRS. A few things I didn't like as much as on the Cat were the style of the bodywork and the use of the Miata instrument cluster. If I were going to build another one there is a good possibility it would be an FM Westfield. Skip

I agree with manik on the viability of used Miata engines. 200,000 miles before overhaul is not uncommon if well maintained. The Miata transmission is one of the sweetest 5 speeds out there, it even has synchromesh on reverse. Another upside is that there is a huge aftermarket of performance items for the Miata engine should you find yourself looking for more HP. I might be a bit biased as I have a Caterham SV with a turbo Miata engine and transmission. Skip

Here's a couple pictures of Ross Robbins's .7 (say: Point 7) catching a ride home on my trailer. He drove it on the streets a couple miles to the show early in the AM. It has a chainsaw motor in the boot. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/115382458_DSC02863.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/331304595_DSC02865.JPG

Did you just watch to see if the fan came on or did you put your hand behind it and feel the air flowing in the correct direction? Some electric fans will run in reverse if you reverse the leads. BTDT, with similar symptoms to yours. Everything was fine until the engine got hot enough to turn on the fans. Skip

Note that this is from their April issue (known for its road test spoofs) and read Sam Matani's last paragraph in the article.

Be sure to get a picture of you in the car in costume at the drive-in. Please post it here. Saw the guy who plays Speed Racer on Letterman. Dave was asking him some car guy questions and it looked like he knew next to nothing about cars and racing. Skip
