  1. If I had known about this before I bought the V8 Miata I would be in there bidding on the XI.
  2. And a not so lucky owner of a Challenger Hellcat. Took him just one hour from the dealership to total it: http://motorsportstalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/21/highway-to-hellcat-owner-wrecks-707-hp-dodge-challenger-one-hour-after-buying-it/
  3. All on one machine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81UjjSH2iFw

  5. Yes, and they have two exhaust valves per cylinder so 24 stacks. The cat converters are in the same location as the Fiat. I'm sure the PT boats had mufflers and under water exhaust outlets to ensure quiet running (but no cat converters).
  6. Not the easiest video to watch if you are a fan on the original Mini. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2014/12/16/score-this-department-of-homeland-security-1-previous-generation-mini-cooper-0/?refer=hsxweekly
  7. It has a 5 speed. Turbos don't work well with the gear spacing of the Miata 6 speed and the 5 speed is a much nicer shifting transmission. The pictures only show the tailshaft which is shaved on the right side and bottom, the main case needed some shaving on both sides as well. No problem with the throwout arm, it came out well forward of the foot boxes.
  8. Dash vents in a Se7en! What a concept. My Caterham heater only warms you from the waist down when the top is down.
  9. I've had them on my Miata for a number of years and I hate them. They are not nearly as grippy as the T1S that preceded them. They also flat spot badly from sitting and are slow to round out when driven. They are also useless in any level of snow or in really cold weather. They do fairly well in the wet until you get standing water. I can't seem to wear them out and the size I use on that car is no longer available in any performance tire.
  10. Perhaps more than all of us could afford if we combined our resources.
  11. Mr Bond, your new car is ready... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJC7E06IBXI Two weeks after delivery. Insurance adjuster: Mr Bond, please explain the front end damage. 007: I hit a coral head at a depth of 25'.
  12. It's no secret, I hit the big 70 last August. I celebrated in November with a present to myself of the V8 Miata (its also my Christmas gift).
  13. From what I am seeing above the Caterham was more accommodating of the Miata transmission than the Birkin. I did have to remove the large boss for the power plate Frame (PPF) on the tailshaft housing and some metal from the main case to get it to fit in the tunnel. I used a sawzall and die grinder to rough out a sacrificial transmission then turned the tailshaft housing over to a machinist friend along with the tailshaft housing I was going to use in the car. He removed the excess metal from the tailshaft housing and machined a mount for the factory Caterham transmission mount. I used a sander and files to trim the main case and it all fit with 1/8" clearance and the shifter came up through the factory location in the tunnel cover. In the picture the stock tailshaft housing is on the left, finished product in the middle and the sacrificial housing on the right. The other picture shows the new mount designed to take the Caterham factory mount.
  14. I don't remember the film but I remember gas being much cheaper than $0.32 per gallon. Once while in the gulf coast area of Texas I bought gas at $0.15 per gallon. I remember bitching when the price of gas went from $0.25 when I first started buying it to $0.32 per. I also remember being jealous of the old farts with their Ferraris, Corvettes and other exotics when all I could afford were old clunkers. It just didn't seem fair to me back then, now that I'm one of the old farts it does. Note: I recently noticed that there isn't a cent sign on my keyboard. When did those get relegated to the alternate fonts?
  15. This brought pictures in my mind of people pushing huge electric motor armatures around an autocross track. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5d/Dc_armature.jpg/330px-Dc_armature.jpg
  16. LOG35 will be based in Colorado Springs August 20 - 24, 2015. This is the second time Lotus Colorado (LOCO) has hosted this national event. All Se7en type cars are welcome to join in the fun. We've had this discussion elsewhere on this forum and I could not find it but let me assure you that ANY Se7en variant is welcomed with open arms. Yes, there might be a few hard core Lotus owners that turn up their nose at any not real Lotus 7 but the majority of the people are welcoming and pleasant to deal with. Details are at: http://www.log35.com/ One of the events will be a run up Pikes Peak. The LOG35 cars will be the first ones up the mountain on Sunday morning. They understand we will may not be observing the speed limits but asked to have someone reasonably sane leading the pack. This person will be a professional racer in an Exige, you figure it out. Latest news: LOG 35 Honored Guest - Bobby Unser The LOG 35 committee is proud to announce that our special guest speaker for the Saturday night banquet will be Bobby Unser. A veteran of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Bobby became known as the "King of the Mountain." He won the sports car division in a Lotus 23 way back in 1964 and the record he set in that win has never been broken. It has stood for over fifty years. That little Lotus 23 cast a shadow almost as big as the Mountain. Come hear Bobby tell all about this car and other adventures at the Saturday night banquet at LOG 35, August 22, 2015. If you have never heard Bobby speak, be prepared for a frank, blunt and colorful remembrance of what it was like on the mountain. We promise: you will enjoy his remarks!
  17. If you have the money and are serious about buying a car from him and want to fly me to wherever his store is, I'd love to take a crack at him. Besides my own cars (355 so far) I do a lot of checking out and negotiating for friends and club members. I once kept a dealer open until 10:30 PM on New Years Eve negotiating on a new Nissan pickup. I walked away three times and they followed me to my car. We were way below invoice plus dealer hold backs and rebates by the time we made the deal. I'm reasonably sure they lost money on the deal but they wanted one more deal before the end of the year. New Years Eve is the absolute best day to negotiate with a dealer. Here is a link to something I wrote years ago for the Miata.net forum on how to deal with dealers, it is a little out of date because it was written before internet buying of cars had really started: http://wiki.miata.net/tiki-index.php?page=How%20to%20Negotiate%20the%20Best%20Deal%20on%20a%20Car Not sure if you can get to it without signing in on Wiki.
  18. It was something that turned out to have been Photoshopped and untrue.
  19. I'm considering driving my V8 Miata to The Mitty in April as there is a gathering of V8 Miatas planned at the event. If the Gathering at Barber Motorsports would happen to fall on the weekend before or after that it would make it more enticing for me to make the trip. Would I be allowed to participate on the track with the Miata? I promise to wave by all the hot shoes in their Caterhams.
  20. This link includes the back story on the barn find. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2014/12/09/la-grange-ultime-trouver-artcurial-unearths-a-treasure-trove-of-collector-cars/?refer=hsxweekly
  21. Here's a '71 Elan race car for sale in Denver area: http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4735309861.html
  22. My Caterham SV has 52% of the weight on the rear wheels before I get in the car. That's with an iron block, aluminum head engine with a heavy cast iron exhaust manifold and turbo and 1/2 tank of fuel. I think that weight distribution is typical of Caterhams. The definition of front mid engine I go with is when the front of the engine is behind the center line of the front wheels.
  23. Twobone, Sell your turbo Miata and get the red one at http://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/for_sale.php The Lava Orange one is in my garage and is no longer available. It will take your power to weight ratio from about 13.5 lb/hp to 5.8 lb/hp. That's assuming the weight of your Miata really is 2,650 lb. My turbo Miata weighs 2,425 and my V8 Miata weighs 2,550 lb.
  24. I see your puny four banger Fiat and raise you a Bentley named Mavis with a 12 cylinder, 43 liter Packard engine from a PT boat. 1,500 HP and 2,000 torque.
