Happy T-day to everyone whether you celebrate it or not. I drove the new (to me) V8 Miata to have dinner with friends in the next town. A bit too cold to go topless but tomorrow it is supposed to hit 70F so the car and I will be having some quality time together.

Close but no cigar. FM has converted two of the Lava Orange cars and this is the other one. Very similar cars but my car does not have the scalloped lids on the headlights and tail lights (yet, I plan to add them). My car dyno'd at 420 RWHP. The car in the video has the "normal" LS3 while my car has an LS376/480 engine which means it is an LS3 with a hotter cam. The lumpy cam makes the car rock a bit at idle and has that typical V8 big cam sound. During the test drive I floored the throttle while cruising at 75 mph in top gear expecting to be pressed into the seat but nothing happened. In my other three cars, all turbocharged 4 bangers, the response is instantaneous setting you back in the seat. The V8 was turning 2,000 RPM at 75 MPH due to a .5 overdrive 6th gear. The engine was below its power band. I think the Caterham will be quicker to 60 but after that as they say, no substitute for cubic inches. I tried to buy the black 1992 V8 they had for sale a couple of months ago. I was second in line and the first one took it. I didn't waste any time on this one as I really liked the color as well as all the added options. I had a deposit on it within an hour of the posting.

Can you find out what is inside those side pods? Probably the exhaust but maybe some side protection. I think they will add another level of difficulty to entering and exiting the car. Ask how much it weighs.

Love the look of that Gulf livery car with the small, low headlights. Do you know if all of those cars are pre-sold and awaiting shipment or are they inventory available for buyers?

In about '68 I was driving down the street in Seattle in my '63 Corvette split window. A 300SL Gullwing pulls up next to me at a stop light, opens the little window and the driver yells at me "want to go for top end for $1,000?", I yelled back "sure, right after we do the quarter mile for $2,000". He closed his window and made a right turn. On a cold, snowy winter day in Colorado about 10 years ago I was on the way to work and was stopped at a red light with a fairly steep uphill slope. I looked to my right and up comes a silver Gullwing with two people in it and makes a right turn without a complete stop. The car looked flawless from where I sat and I was so dumbfounded at the sight of a Gullwing on the road in a snow storm I didn't notice the light had changed until the cars behind me started honking.

Those Brooklands Screens really look good on the S4.

I used to think the S4 was ugly until I got a chance to inspect a couple of them up close. I missed a chance to buy one at a really low price but someone else in the Lotus club got to it first.
