Importing Caterham Engine From England

Racetech RTSC130 was my first choice for a reed sensor speedo. may still be. But that Motogadget takes up a lot less room behind the dash. Tempting. The only nagging issue with Motogadget that would bother me is having 80mph on the dial (120-200) I will never use. For my car, which I plan to have a single tach in the center, the 8K RPM tach with the MPH in LED display would work nicely.

My gripe is the name. Should be "S5". Yea, I know, V is Roman numeral 5, but the 7 wasn't named VII or a "mark". The series designations likewise. The series are 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Following tradition, the next major evolution of the 7 would be series 5. However, I would agree the CSR would qualify as a major evolution of the prototype deserving the S5 title as the S3 was designated such for a wider track, crossflow or TC engine and instrument cluster. Maybe a fuel gauge. Is the SV worth it? If it gets people in a 7 that otherwise couldn't, I believe so. Its not as if its a stupid facelift between the cars. My idea for a better 7 would be larger in all directions, height included, where 15 inch wheels behaved more like 13". I think the S4 was a good attempt to make a better 7, but again, still too small, the width being dictated by axle widths at the time. Continuing with the DeDion would have solved that.

13" tootsies will be a challenge as well as climbing in and out. you can slide in but pushing yourself out of the well and not hitting wheel and switches with knees is requiring lifting self up by arms with a grip on the tunnel and wheel arch, then scootch yourself up until you can get a leg out. seating widths are 15-18 inches on average. 7s are too small, really. I would suggest a Slingshot. Other than looks, which can be changed, a sling has a lot going for it and, in my unpopular opinion, is the modern 7. A rear axle and automatic trans is available for slings. Trak Hamr looks solid http://trakhamr.com/

OH, GOODNESS, THIS IS AN EXCELLENT RECOMMENDATION! https://www.motogadget.us/products/chronoclassic-2 https://spieglerusa.com/gauges-instruments/analog-gauges/analog-speedo-classic/msc-mounting-clamp-5942.html Does this come as a set? both chrono and speedo for $500? Let's assume not, do both chrono and speedo have the same digital displays? Could you elaborate on the speedo sensor adaptation? what kind of pick-up? This? https://spieglerusa.com/gauges-instruments/analog-gauges/analog-speedo-classic/speedo-sensor-m5-reed-contact-5992.html

When my wife says the name, it sounds like "SELL IT!"

I was thinking that may be the case. Thanks for acknowledging it. I'll keep it but still look for a 4cyl model.

There are plenty of English videos on YouTube one can hear the correct speech. But even there, one will hear variations. When I hear the English say it, depending on thier local accent, the er is often clipped so to my ears I hear "Kate-ram" or "Kate-rum" or "Kay-tram. Either way, the first "a" is always long.

I have a T9 sitting here. Is this something that can be checked in situ? I'm not wanting to pull it apart. Put up some pictures

The Nickel And Dime Parts That Can Blow Up Your Kit Car Budget

AI creation. It's the re-doing of errors. One step forward, two steps back. But you learn. And get boxes of parts. The comments on that article are worth your time. -

New Sales Model - Caterham in the USA
IamScotticus replied to BruceBe's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Will kits be supplied built to accommodate an intended propshaft and mount brace for a certain transmission and engine mounts for a certain engine? Surely these won't be left to the end buyer to fabricate? One of the best reasons to buy a Caterham over others has been that all the fiddling had been done for you. -
Did you get your $$?

Hi, I've had some communications with Tom recently. Yes, he is active. I don't know how active he is, but Birkin USA is still an active business. Yes, Tom can be slow to respond. If we can PM, we can compare fone numbers. I won't give mine out publicly. You have only 5 posts so you may need more activity to be allowed to PM. Scott

Ceramic Coating Header and Exhaust

Look at Swain Tech, If you must do this. Swain Tech Coatings | Industrial Coatings | High Performance Racing Coatings – Technical coatings to solve problems of heat, wear, corrosion, and friction I am more inclined to preserve what you have as new, as well and for as long as possible, and only re-coat when/if the original finish has deteriorated. This is why I'm overjoyed to own a used 7. I am more inclined to only do what can be undone later. I don't know if a rattle can of VHT can be cleaned off later, but when you CHANGE YOUR MIND, which you will do at some point, or sell the 7 and realize your colour is hurting your re-sell, you will be wishing you could turn back the clock after new toy syndrome is over. I have always read that coating the pipes will shorten the life. I don't know what the basis is for this, but its enough warning for me avoid doing it. I can always polish out scratches on bare metal. chip a ceramic coating a few times and it looks beat up. rattle can it and you can touch up and blend in. -
Yea, Rack. Stupid auto correct. I fat finger every other word.

I would call the Cat dealers like Sevens &Elans, Rocky Mountain, WireWheel, Supraformance, Beachman, British Auto Specialists, and whoever is on the Car dealer site. Let them know you're looking. Chris & Sevens & Elans flips quite a few 7s. Maybe more than anyone. Get on his list for sure. His web site inventory is typically not kept up, have to call him @fotsyr -
+1 on parts searches. Realize that a Caterham or Lotus is an assemblage of other car's parts. The key to knowing your 7 is to know those other cars. Then your parts searching opens up to a wider availability and knowledge base. Example, your front uprights are likely Triumph Spitfire. Specifically, Spirfire wirh custom hubs to fit Ford bolt pattern. If that needs replaced or parts or special knowledge like trunion oil type, (so you don't put grease in there), you go to the Triumph forums and clubs and vendors. You have many 80s Ford Sierra parts there, go to the Sierra forums. Being a 99, you may have BMW diff. I suggest having the Haynes manuals for these cars. If you don't do your own work, being able to tell a mechanic what the donor cars are and have references is a great help to him, or a very cool her. I'm interested in what steering bracket you have? You may have a modified Mini Cooper, or a Caterham bedpoke.
