A T9 to 1600 adaptiopn uses: 1600 Kent: flywheel, pilot, clutch cover, release bearing & arm 2000 Pinto: 190/7.5" 1x23 clutch disc (reduced diamter from 8.5") bellhousing (some grinding to cleaar the starter may be necessary) T9 box with (a)reduced diamter shaft cover for release bearing)(Burton), (b) if box is the longer shaft V6, a 1" spacer between the box and bell. Remember (1) the engine threads are Imperial and the bellhousing are metric and you do use both. (2) use special tacky clutch disc grease on the splines. PM me i have a few packs. (3) have the flywheel surfaced, balanced and checked for runout Notice I don't use car model names...it just adds to the confusion.

  3. Ive been putting together the parts for an evetual T-9 conversion to my Xflow. This is the list of stuff I know so far. Not sure I agree with Burton on the "standard Escort clutch". On parts, standard 1600 Kent clutch disc is 190mm 7/8" x 20. A T9 was never fitted to Kent 1600 in a Ford road car, but on 2ltr and larger engines using larger clutches. To adapt the T9 to work with the Kent it only requires two or three things: (1) A 1" spacer between the case and the bell IF the T9 uses the longer input shaft (1x23), and a small bit of the shaft length may need removal. (2) A reduced diamter input shaft sleeve the release bearing slides on so std Escort bearings can be used (with a std Kent pressure plate). (3) A special 190mm 1x23 PPlate, which is an oddity because the 1"x23 discs were larger in diameter for the 2ltr Pintos. Im not sure what vehicles used a 190mm 1x23 but I've only heard of one. Thank Burton for keeping them in stock. Input shaft tips are same dia so pilot/spigot bearing is common to both. I believe I have seen a CRB spacer on Burton for the takeup issues. Here is a more typical CC Vibration causes, im only sugessing here... Trans & engine mounts loose, warped flywheel, chatter/ slipping from contaminated flywheel surface, uneven bellhousing bolt torque, prop shaft U joints bad. I hope Im helpful here.
  4. Just out of curiosity, so I can get schooled on it.. The front bearing change Cat did, replacing the Spitfire parts, 3 burning questions: 1, are those sealed bearings and what cars are they used on? 2, can the upgrade bearings be pressed into Spitfire hubs? 3, Is the felt dust seal used?

  7. ethanol, wouldn't an additive like stabil or enzyte take care of that and be better for the carbs? yes, the Facet box pumps are noisy and mounted to the back seat panel you feel it in your back. nut they can be drawn through in line with another pump.
  8. Thanks Vin Heres mine I don't have an adjuster on the cylinder, its up top and manually adjusted with a square key. I also confirmed this to be A Marina, not an Ital, although Cat says its an Ital. The hub locating key is 3/16", not 1/4"square. Where some have gotten into trouble on these is fitting Ital hubs on Marina shafts giving the Ital hub 1/16" of space to move in. Fortunate to not have this issue. If buying shafts from MOSS or Rimmer Bros one must check this.

But Im considering running the mechanical because its quiet compared to the electric. I will keep the electric in line as a primer.

  14. Some 60s Triumph cars had inboard discs. The diff cases aren't large and there are Quaife ATBs available for them. Still alot af parts support for old British Leyland group companies.

  17. Consider the business model, who will be buying these and for what? Kids raised on video games. Rule #1, they won't be turning wrenches. Rule #2, they won't drive for the power to weight. For this mass consumer market a vehicle needs to be bullet proof and stable. Stable needs weight in the right places. The T-Rex is a perfect example of outrageous power in a light package, all pimped out, driven by people not prepared for or caring about the limits. Yes, I don't care for the Sling's looks, but a lot of that is due to a chopped off rear end, no aesthetic balance. Something a bolt on rear section with wheels and a trunk can fix. Yes, more weight. No, club racing isn't going to make a resurgence now with a new competitive street racer . Whatever people do, they will do on the streets and roads. I also believe the ideal fun car must be EV capable. Thats a difficult set of design choices as EV is very new with few off the shelf parts with 10 year support. When the Lotus 7 was built, Lotus had part bins from Ford and Triumph (BL) that were already supporting those components for 10 years and much of it still available today. What can be built today with that support? All I can say is if you want to offer a new 7, it needs to be a lot more accommodating to the average persons needs than an S3. Oh, thats been done, the Miata, right? No, I think there may be a market for an open wheel, open top fun car. But not another S3 replica. Perhaps a refined S4. I think Cat should have tried to revive the S4 instead of the 21 project. The 21 was already a hard sell then the Elise just blew if away. Business.
  18. Slings dont tip. Two in front. But they can oversteer. I dont know if people are racing them on tracks, but thst isn't the target consumer. Slings are recreational pleasure craft. They make fun rentals.
  19. Birkin just moved to the USA, Denver? I Don't think the market has too many 7 makers; I don't think there are enough people who will want a 7. For those who might be so inclined, the Slingshot is an option, especially when the four wheel kits become more available. More people can fit in them and there are automatic Slingshots now, for the masses. The Slingshot IS the modern seven. There you go, ban me . But that's what it is, and it's gaining popularity. When I see at least two daily in Houston, it's officially a thing, like it or not. However! I do really like the classic engine idea, staying with old punchy tech. The formula Ford guys will thank you. But there are other engines ready to go that very good. I think someone mentioned the Toyota M20 going in his 7. Although Im a Ford Purist, Toyota has some incredible engineering in the basic twin cam 1600
  20. Ohhh, Xflow porn! but wait ARP bolts...... heres the thing, those bolt heads are too tall to clear some dry sump pans. The good pans have a curved plate that is spaced close to the crank and rod ends so there will be some oil splash to keep everything lubed. That clearance is too shallow for ARP. So you aren't building a dry sump, not now. But eventually you might so when that time comes, the bolts won't be an issue. So ARP bolts are better, right? Not always. Not saying they're bad, but in this 35-40 ftlb application, that is hardly a high tension spec like head bolts or flywheel. I would stick with standard Ford part on that. I am wondering if there is a difference in crank seals between the 711M and the AX???
  21. In the process of building up a set of replacement front hubs (Triumph Spitfire parts) with a set of alloy hubs and new rotors. The hubs have bearing races fitted, but because some dummy, probably me, touched one years ago, one race is rusted. I went to Moss to look for these races and I see that they offer only caged bearings with no separate races. Does anyone know if these are direct replacement press fit into the Spitty hubs or if machining is required? Another question, is this an improvement?
