  1. I always ask people who do this if they have ever punched the headrest REALLY hard to see if they feel the screws on their knuckles. Imagine the back of your head in a rear-end accident... (offered with the best of intentions, really!)
  2. it's certainly in the "OMG, what were they thinking" category in my opinion :-) http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/01/jay-lenos-garage-welcomes-the-tramontana-supercar/
  3. Coincidently, saw my first Fejer in the flesh today. It looked a decent car for the $12000 the owner said he had in it, but a couple of things caught my eye: 1. brake fluid reservoirs were mounted about one inch away from the headers, and below the cylinders. 2. steering column had about a one foot long section of flex shaft (instead of universal joints) to get around the headers.
  4. Two-part boat foam from any race supplier (Pegasus for example) and a garbage bag... ... instant custom seat of decent safety level for track days.
  5. socket of correct internal size + bench grinder = thin wall socket :-)
  6. is there an ECU with that package, or just "WYSIWYG" ? You might also want to post on apexspeed.com/forums in the FC subsection....
  7. might be risky; with that much fuel in the oil system, I'd be worried about be able to flush it all out; residual fuel could break down the fresh oil and wreck the bearings....
  8. yikes, from this one photo, you musta been standin' WAY WAY back :-)
  9. Need to be careful what I put in print in this litigatious society of ours, but lets just say I wouldn't ever ever ever deal with this guy again....
  10. ... at least they got the steering wheel right :-)
  11. Assuming you don't need to start the car in cold weather, you don't need much in the way of cranking amps at all. I run my (admittedly low compression) Kent off a lawn tractor battery that is half the size and one third the cost of a 'regular' car battery.
  12. thx Shiva. I see we are neighbors, how can I not know you, where abouts in Montreal? Ian in Lachine
  13. I have a standard(?) electric Caterham gauge, says "Caerbont Automotive Ltd" on the back of it. Block has a pressure transducer sender screwed into the oil gallery with a single wire into the car loom. Curiously, the gauge has four wires going to three spade connectors on it! One matches color of wire to sender, others are a mystery. Any ideas? (its not the back-lighting, that's separate and obvious). Car wiring has had many errors and dead-ends, so maybe these are redundant? Main question - if needle swings wildly and erratically when running, would you suspect gauge or sender first?
  14. seconded....
  15. not sure I'd agree.... the 'best' geometry depends on what handling characteristic you want to emphasize, and depending on where the suspension pickup points are located (inboard and outboard, front and rear) will define among other things the chassis' dynamic roll centers. The static A-arm angles resulting from this may in rare cases be parallel, but its very unusual for the best compromise set-up to not have converging angles.
  16. photo 3, green shirt, salt/pepper beard... that's JR Mitchell for those that don't know; forgotten more about Lotus' than most of us ever knew. He's in Connecticut at GMT Racing if you ever need quality work.
  17. Curious about the Birkin relative to my caterham. Where's the "backbone" vertical bending stiffness of the chassis since it has no structural tunnel down the centerline? I guess its just the elbow-level side frames? Why not put in a full tunnel while you're at it? Just a few extra tubes, and you're exposed already....
  18. If these don't work out, I highly recommend the Quaife I have in my car. Not cheap, but bulletproof and choice of ratios. Call Craig at Taylor-Race in texas.
  19. Sample of one on my part, but I had a very happy experience with Passport between Texas and Vermont. As above, not cheapest, but what's peace-of-mind worth?
  20. oohhh, curious... pictures ?
  21. Hi from Montreal, This car could be in your garage for less than Cdn$30k. You won't get a Caterham or real Lotus 7 for less, trust me I've been through all the options. Even building my own from scratch I've got over 30 in it, not counting labor. If you're even remotely passionate, grab it... :-)
  22. Not that I don't applaude your "push back" reaction, but posting it here in public may have jeapordized your "hit and run" claim. No end of internet stories of lawyers finding all sorts of stuff while scraping the web as part of their fact-finding ....
  23. why on earth would you want to ?? :-)
  24. Just the one, see second line of first post. Might be spoken for though, awaiting reply on whether shipping across country is affordable (I suspect not). You have next dibs, but sounds like you want 4?
  25. For extra foot room, consider reshaping the floor under your heels to drop it down an inch or so by cutting out the flat piece and replacing it with a tray. Tall guys do a similar thing under their seats to lower its mountings. For shoes, buy race boots. The key is in the specific heel shaping of the boot for cars like ours where legs are almost parallel to the ground. The narrowness is also a bonus.
