  1. How about this, here's a photo of the door on the floor, those are 9" square tiles; flip-up hinge is along one line to define 'horizontal'; print and scale it.... :-) cheers (oh, turns out I lied, they're only 2650 miles away LOL)

  4. specifically? they're standard Caterham, not even sure the newer cars nor the SV's are different, no reason I can see for Caterham to have changed them. let me know what to measure... and just to be sure, you're aware these doors are 3000 miles away on the wrong side of the border? LOL
  5. Latest doors with the elbow-room bulge built in to the lower half. Includes hinge pins. Not new, but seem very lightly used. No yellowing of 'windows' either. Haven't been drilled for mirrors that I can see. Sensible Offers + shipping from 31322 (essentially free shipping up the east coast late in August possible, as I know someone making the trip up I95)

  8. Two of these came with the car, unlikely I'll use them. Have both left and right, used but seem fine, no scratches or cracks. Rust on a couple of bolt heads, easily replaced. Includes male hinge pins but not windscreen-mounted piece (need that for the main doors). Offers? (+ shipping from 31322)
  9. Is it possible you have a huge amount of friction in the suspension bushings that is acting to help hold up the load? When I first built my Caterham, the bushings were so tight when installed I couldn't stroke the A-arm arc by hand....
  10. As a general rule I avoid online debates at all costs, for no other reason than "to each their own", but the Car Show and US Top Gear are so very very very very bad, that I just had to cast out my opinion.....
  11. IIRC the rules only applied to cars more than 3 and less than 15 years old, but that was back in 2005-ish, might have changed. (I lived up there until recently). I also seem to remember that failing, and showing proof that youpaid to have TRIED to fix it is all that matters; no retest required (ie only have to "fix" it once, even if unsuccessful). Stupid, but thats how they explained it to me then.

  16. Unless there's something really odd with the unit you have, it is a simple centrifugal device that opens 25 degrees between 1000 rpm and 4000 rpm, so it adds 25 to whatever you start at. The 5 degrees is their arbitrary starting suggestion (which most of us think is too little). My point was that if you set idle timing at an rpm above 1000, you've already used up a little of the 25 it would have added had you set idle at 1000. At risk of telling you what you already know, in these simplistic mechanical dizzies there are little spring loaded counterweights that get flung out radially by the spinning action; nothing happens below 1000 because the spring is stronger than the cf force; once you reach 4000 (in this case), the weights reach a hard stop and dont move any further, and advance stays at "idle setting + 25 degrees" no matter how much higher you rev it.

  19. He's partially right. That dizzy is designed to open up an additional 25 degrees over the rpm range of 1000 thru 4000. Initially you might think that it merely adds 25 to whatever you set at idle, and you'd be right if you set your idle at 1000 rpm, but if you set your idle advance at 1200 rpm rather than the 1000 the dizzy assumes, the dizzy will have already started to open up during that (admittedly small) 200 rpm difference. Maybe that's only a couple of degrees though.... So, if you set 12 degrees at 1200, the dizzy is going to add whatever it has left to offer between 1200 and 4000, say 23 degrees or so, so in the end your advance at 4000 would be 12+23 = 35; just about right in my opinion.

  21. To the (at least) three guys sending me questions and expressing interest, let me clarify these screens are used and I have no idea how old they are. Glass seems perfect, alloy frame has typical 'coarseness' that old alloy castings get, but mechanisms all work. The seal under the stantion is worn but certainly usable. Based on info rec'd, I'm thinking 300 bucks plus shipping, which I'll bet is north of a hundred.
  22. I assume it came off the '95 I just bought, AFAIK all the non-wide chassis are the same. As the unit sits on the bench, the span between the front mount holes is 36.5", and between the rears 38". Has a little give, but not much.
