Roll bar padding for the street and Half Hood quandary
CBuff replied to Reiver's topic in General Sevens Discussion
My soft bits half hood skewed on the big side. Not sure if this is just a one off situation or if they all come like that. If so I think it would almost accommodate some padding. maybe get the half hood and see if it works. If not then tweak the padding or remove it. -
Figured I would share. I’m a total mechanical novice so doing a transmission fluid change is a bigger undertaking than it should be. But I think it was successful. new 2023 caterham 420r delivered last June. Put 5k miles on it since last year and 7 track days. other forums and service suggest checking your transmission fluid level at the end of the season. The only way I could figure doing this was to remove the filler plug and stick my finger in there. Since that’s the hardest part of the job I figured I would just drain it and put in new fluid. checked the square fill plug (9/16 crescent) to make sure it comes off. then removed the 24mm drain I pulled back the carpet and cut the heat shielding that covered the hole in the footwell. nothing spilled out when I opened the filler hole. About 1.5 liters came out. Black and nasty for less than a year. Mag plug had decent amount of crud on it put about 1.8 liters back in via a funnel and tube (cheap amazon). When I went to check and pulled the funnel it was dripping out of the fill so guess that’s full. decided I should put a grommet( 60cm with a piece cut since the diagonal cross brace cuts thru the hole) back in the foot well and the heat shield plug (taped from the trans side). heat shield tape to cover plug stick carpet back down I started to wonder about the turret oil. Some Miata forums say to service this by pulling the shifter out. Decided I would see if there was any oil in there. (Sorry no photos of this) pulled the tunnel cover. Removed three 8mm bolts on shifter. Removed shifter (careful it drips trans fluid). Seems like there was a little fluid way down at the bottom. Thought I would top off. It took about 200ml to fill it just over the bushing receiver ). I read it should take 250ml from empty so it was either very low or I overfilled it. here is a video of some doing this in their miata took it for a test drive and nothing was leaking etc. so success for now. Sometime down the road I will extract the fluid out of the turret but I was pushing my comfort zone and thought just topping off was enough. so I can add to my first list. Transmission fluid. (Already did the oil twice, and diff fluid ). I enjoyed the experience and learned a bunch. Starting to get just enough knowledge to be real dangerous.

I was going to go with an anti gravity but my dealer put an agm and bracket it. Which has worked thus far. When I dies I will likely upgrade to an anti gravity. But who knows with how fast things change. If my battery needs match this bracket I will circle back when the time calls. Looks great!!

I suck at this. I like the silhouette. I think there is a site you can buyout the image for like $5.00. But would have to look into it more. USA7 Logo2 (dragged).pdfUSA7 Logo2 (dragged).pdfUSA7 Logo2 (dragged).pdfUSA7 Logo2 (dragged).pdfUSA7 Logo2 (dragged).pdfUSA7 Logo2 (dragged).pdf

I can get you a better photo early next week. But here is one I have in hand. Heater cable run marked next to it in red. this was done by the factory (so 80% sure it’s correct).
-
My factory built 420 has the heater pull knob (for valve) just to the right of the steering column. If my six point belts aren’t super tight I can just reach it when it’s pressed in. photo is upside down

I would think that it triggers the warning light on the tach. Mine lights up if the handbrake is on (even slightly).

I guess I haven’t updated this in a while. Well I wrapped up 2024 with just over 5,000 miles, 7 track days and lots of smiling. Had a little break in the weather and the roads mostly cleaned of salt. Headed up to mohonk preserve in the Shawangunk mountains. Some old friends in tow and some other seven owners along the way. Gonna have to keep it up with my hope to beat last years mileage. get em on the roads gentleman.

I know a few folks were talking about this. Have not used it or had any direct feedback. But the reviews etc seem positive. https://gyraline.com/products/the-case?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAA9-yhqQI4TNRFN1itT7ASakSLigvK&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkN--BhDkARIsAD_mnIqf9c4dwpVIqPf3JkJyypZ7CsfQ1kRdnpNlVBIJyIKoy9qTirk-d1kaAoT7EALw_wcB

Does a wet vs dry sump setup change the bypass valve pressure needs or sensitivity on the oil filter? I was running the Mann w77 on my Duratec 420 with dry sump but looked at the w712/83 (longer filter 59mm vs 72mm in length ) same bypass pressure of .8 bars. But I noticed some versions of the w712 also run a 2 bars bypass. would running something on a 2bar bypass change the situation and present any dangers. Just trying to understand how diligent I should be at matching oil filer bypass pressures.

I brought mine to the carbs and coffee. Enough people asked me to take the bonnet off a couple times that I just pulled it off. I was parked on the grass so I was able to slide it carefully under the rear of the car. But I hear you on wondering about that. There was also a convenient tree nearby that I propped It against. I was walking around so not sure if anyone took not upon themselves to sit in the car. one prospective buyer for a 7 asked to sit in it. Which I accommodated. A bit of pay it forward I guess. it was a pretty smancey affair so everyone was pretty well behaved.

Second that in soft bits. While my car is new bike 420 sv. And the size is more “standard”. I think they are pretty adept at customizing. double zip in entry on this one

I bet that Italian is pro heater as an option.

Assume it's titled as a Custom. Not sure if you want to mention that. It ended up saving me money on the insurance (Vs titled as Caterham). Im sure it differs from state to state. Sorry it didnt work out for you Arahant.

Agree with John. I installed the Schroth profi ii. https://www.schrothracing.com/item/profi-ii-asm/fia-4-point-asm I thought I would use them as 4 pts on the road but have the crutch 6pt for track. But I run with the 6pts all the time. Don’t love the yellow tags. So I got the harness pads that are black with grey tags that match my car. Precious I know. they are a bit pricey but well made You can take the pads off and even the 3” shoulders work with Han’s.

I clearly have a lot of catching up to do

My 2023 caterham 420 was well north of 50k when it was all said and done. Not 90k but closer to that than 50. -
My importer up in buffalo found an upholsterer who did it. I can track down the name but don’t think it was a specialist. I works well
-
I have the leather seats in my 420. And just had a hole cut thru the squab. It has worked well. I thought I would only use on track but now I run crutch all the time. It keeps the buckle located and is perfectly comfortable.

Looks like scary fun!!!! Get some mileage on it by coming to New Jersey this summer.

Catrem, catterham, cataham. I would think AI could spell better.
