No personal experience with Wisconsin. Maybe @fred.lemke can weigh in. I have 6 pt schroth harnesses that have buckles that some DMV dont say pass but it wasnt an issues in NY. Schroth makes an FE harness with different buckles which I assume are designed to pass some DMV requirements. Some cars are titled as Custom Vehicles (or home made), they are exempt from regular emissions testing. Some who have brought cars in from out of state that were previously registered title and register it as a Caterham. But if it's under 15 years old they are required to have emissions testing. This cannot be done with the electronics in a caterham. While it does have an OBD type port under that dash, it wont register anything at the inspection station if they plug into it. And if they are able to read anything it will throw errors all over. You could also check with Time Machines Dealer, I believe he has shipped a few to Wisconsin. I was told it was a direct swap since the 2000 series had the smiths and same power train. But once I got the costs to source all new gauges I backed away and didn’t really get final confirmation it was truly plug and play.

When I ordered my 420r in 2023 I asked about installing the smith gauges and moto lita (or having it be a quick change option). Got a short no. I could have sourced the gauges separately and had them installed later which in theory was just plug and play. But never got too far into it when final costs started coming in. While I still like the aesthetics on those items I don’t really miss them but that’s just me.

I’m not there yet but your point is valid. I’ve put over 10k miles since June 2024. Njmp, lime rock, New York safety track all driven to. The thought of breaking down at the track and being stuck was a concern but I am more confident now then when I started. More likely I stuff it and break something vs something just breaking. Maybe if I lived outside of the city and had a garage for a trailer and a tow vehicle I would lean into that a bit more. I don’t mind driving it long hauls but it’s certainly not for everyone. I would take it anywhere and am contemplating a run out west in the coming years. @Crocis on the nose with consumables etc. I have used up my original tires (Avon zzs) but other than fluids etc no real work needed. (Although my diff has started making new noises ). Baubles and bolt ons are optional but I have purchased some of those items. it does take some getting used to driving such a small car both on the road and the track. That might be the one thing you want to test out. I love it but it can be unnerving on the highway with 18wheelers and even suv around you. You have to assume no one sees you ever. Also on the track it’s nice to run with other 7s or open wheelers or even Miata type. The gtr, mustang, corvettes crowd looks huge next to you. Here is a run to nyst (maybe 3 1/2 hours away). And if you’re smarter than me you would put the top up before it rains.

I know some have destroked them with the 2.5 block and 2.0 head for some more revs. I am keeping half an eye out for 300hp na option for my 420 down the road

I dont think Caterham touches the engine. It's just an agreed spec and, in theory, all the integration with the chassis, gauges etc has all been worked out. You order the car and then Caterham or the dealer orders the built engine from Mountune who then ships it to you. Then dealer arranges to install the engine of thats your plan. That is my understanding. i got a 420R back in 2023 when Caterham was still supplying the engines. While it was shipped in the same crate it cannot be installed until it reaches the US. So once here the engines are installed. Only difference now is that they are sourced directly from Mountune. But the dealers would know more.

@KnifeySpoony the sv is the evolution. I love to sit in my thick leather seats with my heater humming away. I wonder if anyone has added adaptive cruise control.

Im not terribly short, my license says 5'10" but my wife contests this. If you portly enough, you always seem short. SV all the way for me. Very happy with the extra room. As my mother used to say to me "Easier to jump over than walk around"

I like my floor mats supplied by caterham. They snap down in 5 locations (2 front, 3 rear). They stay put. Since you have to take them out every time you wash the car to vacuum up the water and grit that inevitably gets underneath them. Just be careful removing them. i have one popper that has pulled thru the mat. Havent had a chance to try and repair that yet. The floor pan under the seat gets torn up quickly with rocks rubbing from the seat squab (leather seats). I ended up painting that section in truck bedliner (herculiner) just recently. So far so good. But I also get a lot of guff from other owners for being a bit a polishing queen.

I went thru a million iterations on the website colors etc. the settled on my vintage green with double pin stripes. Time machines was able to get pictures from uk with the paint, stripes and leather stitched all sitting next to each other. Which made me tweak the colors vs the website. But turned out great. I talked with a lot of owners and even went to the annual event in 2023 when my car was ordered but not yet built. The big change was track options. I had never tracked anything prior to this so I didn’t even think about it. Once I tried it my options all skewed to accommodate track driving. (13” wheels, track day bar, aero screen, dated 6pt belts). The dpr mirrors were a must either way. I was very worried about my shoulder strap angle being too downward with lowered floors so I didn’t do it. This turned out to be an issue no one really checks. The broomstick is much more scrutinized. Which with non lowered floors I just make (5’10”). I guess that is really the only thing (lowered vs non lowered) that I would maybe considered again but not worth retrofitting for sure. And of course maybe a 620 vs 420. But that’s just the junkie brain doing its thing. The 420 is plenty.

Clearly I am chomping at the bit for the Nova (Avon) ZZS or ZZR. I reached out to nova UK and their US rep circled back today. They are in the process of signing off on the DOT compliance for the ZZS and ZZR range. I asked the best case scenario for tires in hand. Ken said maybe 4 months - but I am guessing there is a lot of maybe/possible in that. Ken Payne is the Nova contact who was very nice and told me to he was happy to connect with anyone interested. I will update if he gets back to me with any more updates.

That’s well beyond my skill level so I defer to others on the pitfalls with that.
