when I build my 7 , I bought a clutch /brake peddle assembly complete from Speedway motors . It was cheap enough but had to modify it to death to make it work with the gas peddle its either gas, brake or clutch brake with my bike boots . The one im about to build for someone is going to have an automatic trans . much easier and more room for everything.

Yes the toe box is very small. wide shoe size is a problem for some
-
its a big bag, like a black garbage bag, roll the car in and tie it off at the opening , call it what you want, it looks like a big garbage bag to me
-
Yes it's a tight squeeze getting in one , I have been giving this a lot of thought .I'm about to start another 7, this time with a 4L60 GM Automatic trans , this will make a lot of room in the toe box area , then widen the chassis by 4 inches , that's not even noticable when looking at it head on , then stretch it about 6 inches , from all sides with a cad program it still has all the looks and size as the original. Just a tad , more. . keeping the 4.3 V6 and the automatic trans will be enough power the new owner will ever need or want . I had to make my seats , did the frame in aluminum, and added slides on the driver side , covered in heavy padded vynol in black they ,, WORK . And feel good , right now my 7 is in a bag for the winter in my shop

So, tell us a little about yourselves

welcome, you will be surprised how simple the 7 is to build. I did mine in a bout 500 hours working time. there's photos of what and how I did things . all I can say is plan the peddle box area real good, it doesn't have very much room if you have big feet. -
I have one for sale, its on here all the photos im selling fully registered

I never made any kits, never said I did, I sent motors and controllers to the UK, and that was all, they did all their own work -

10 years? they can do it now, the car companies are banking on the stupidity of the buying public. AC motors Arnt that expensive to make, the controllers do have more software than they need, but its about bells and lights and extra crap that has no use in any car. but they built them that way to put the price so high no one can afford them. For about 17 years I was doing them out the door, vehicle supplied for 12,500$ complete. I did about 400 or so like that, then I moved up to the trucks we have done about 75 so far. mostly short-range delivery types. even trolly busses Now into the heavy class 5,6,7 types/ and Electric cars have been around long before the gas powered car, First one was built in Scottland in 1848 I think if my memory servs me right. and your right, a lot of BS goes on at a SEMA show . I went once about 5 years ago, I had more fun at the gaming tables -

the last 911 i did was under 22K$. and the car came with it, did 0-60- in 4 seconds. and everything was new, no junk parts. no Chinese crap . we are in production on class 4,5,6 trucks now, its not a "were about to do planning " stage, I have been doing this since 1974 , during the first oil embargo More than anyone in the western hemisphere Thats not bragging, it's a fact . Im an arrogant sonzabitch aint I ? LOLOL But at least I admit it / -

OK , I looked at all of them, they all have the same thing, NOT MUCH. you have to do all thew work, these are just components, motor, controller, a set of batteries, I didn't see if they include a charger, their web site gets a little fuzzy on some things, Thats how they work it. you have to do all the work. A LOT OF WORK The prices are out of this world. One thing I did see that was encouraging , NO real photos of converted or factory running EVs. Just nice computer graphics. This has been going on since the 90s there's a lot of money if you get a system working and can prove what you do, Lots of money. I made Lots of money, LOLOLOL.. Now were doing commercial delivery trucks. and we can prove performance, not with dumb data, come take a drive. again, these sites didn't say anything about how to couple the motor to the trans , manual or automatic, EXPENCIVE , we do this all-in house or they didn't mention any type of battery management system. VERY IMPORTANT . . They didn't mention any type of motor cooling or controller cooling . But I guess that's how they want it, I have seen this all too much, " you bought it, it's yours", in this business. just be ware. because if it sounds too good to be true. It is -
Here is a question, will it have to be inspected by your State and what about emissions . That can make you cry if it has to be inspected . Soon you will need a Cat Converter on your weed eater

computer for 2002 thru 2004 Ford 4cy fuel injected SVT

I dont know it this will help anyone. But I have found that corroded ground, {earth} can cause a lot of problems. if it site to long, it builds up a "no connection" film on the connectors. I run into this all the time. also, Ford at one time had such bad wiring they had a " wiggle " test, grab any wires in suspect area and wiggle them, NO JOKE, that's from Ford. this was from the late 90s to early 2000s , there wiring was so bad the insulation would rot off and do a lot of shorting damage -
you might want to try a ship gimble holder, they move all about and are always in the "right" position . Nothing spills or falls out . made for cups, glasses and cans . even oil lamps

I completely agree with you , I have been building cars since the 70s , electric and hot rods and European Classics . I truly believe with some minor help any one can do this , build one from scratch , it's a dirt simple car to build . Maybe welding could be a hardship for most . I really can say after going over every receipt ,I had just a tad over 9 K$ total , Yes that's not adding labor cost , how do you bill your self ? I kept wiring down to not more than 8 in the engine compartment and 6 in the rear , not counting gauges I maybe doing another one , A person came to my shop twice now asking questions , it would have to be stretched for his height and widened for his butt, and he wants an automatic trans ,even easier to do , so we will see , but it fun to drive them , every one looks and honks

Either was done , a direct dive unit to a deff was really hard on the chassis bent it way to much torque , but yes just about all the ones I have done were motor to trans .on unit I sent out had 2 11 inch DC motors couple together , that as 400 HP but the torque was 1460 lbs Instant power it's actually deciduous, but I do what the customer pays me to do , but all had a short range. The technology on good batteries wasn't there yet -
Please don't take this wrong ,,, I built mine from scratch .started in March , finished in August. Did you have to pay a VAT ,with your order .
-
I built a locost , just bought the book for the frame plans , had them blown up to full size at a custom print shop . It was as easy as building a model car , started in March finished in August . What I should have done was make it longer and wider , very little foot room with my ,,V6 and T5 trans . With the real lotus 7 , you get a lotus 7 , I don't know if you can order with engine options up to A V8 of what trans, any automatics ? With the locost you can stretch the thing 6 foot longer if you want make it 3 foot wider I.E. , do what you want , your building it .. I did look at a photo of a lotus 7 frame . With mine I put a tri angel cusset at every joint , I wanted strength , safety is more important than speed to me .. and it was only about 10 more pounds , With the Real Lotus it has a much better resale value , So IMHO , they both have good points one is much much cheaper to build , one is more expensive to buy .... But that's why they have chocolate and vanilla ice cream ,,, something for every body ....just my 2 cents

This is not new at all I have sent motors and controllers to a few people in the UK to do a 7 , in conjunctions with my motor builder , it was done about 10 years ago and yes the acceleration was out of this world .As it was told to me by the owners . So far I have converted a lot of cars including A 09 Porsche 911 , a MGB and a number of Miatas MX5 ,. All toll over 450 cars , trucks , vans , air port equipment.and aircraft tubs . We are now doing large trucks -
How long have you been waiting from the order date?????
-
The car I'm about to build doesn't use any lotus parts , all I really need is the rear fenders and nose ,I found a place out west that has them at a real good price . Can't remember their name off hand right now ,kinetic something or other . I have to make an est.of time and cost for a longer , wider 7 ,and he wants an automatic trans , no big thing even simpler to do .So as far as OEM lotus parts go , I really don't need any . Hope you can find all you need for yours
-
Frank, All I can say is trying to find OEM parts for any 7 is next to imposable, the auto parts stores here don't even know what a Lotus 7 is. Besides all the parts on their shelves are from Asia. not Japan. about 90 % as I'm told by one chain is from that mythical land beyond the sun. and what thery have is pure crap, gotta remember buy cheap as you can find, sell as high as you can, and screw the warranty. they actually change vender ever 6 months so your lifetime part is no longer warrantied. I was lucky my background made it easy for me to build my own parts, make what I needed, and mix and match things that don't go together will, and it works. As far as finding Lotus 7 parts, they're going to be expensive and far and few between. I made my own wiring harness, that was the easy way to go, The steering and suspension were from a Mustang 2, much stronger safer and had everything in a bolt on package, which I welded to the frame I wasn't looking to build an exact 7. just a car to drive and have fun. I was asked at a small car show, How much to build one with an automatic trans, . That is better and much simpler to do and give more foot room in the toe box area. He asked, How much , I said ,, all of it LOLOL

I have the Brookland's also, I like the look, resembles the old school of the 30s race cars . To me, and my opinion only the full wind screen looks out of place on the 7, but thats just me. And after all bug juice isn't that bad tasting . LOLOL, I use a set of WW2 aircraft goggles repos . they look good and do a great job.
