The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
slowdude replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
Agreed. 15k USD wont buy you a bare bones base spec 7 in the UK. Lowest I've seen is 13k GBP. That's just over 17k cash. Add 3k to get it over here, and then another 2.5k to take care of misc odds and ends (as the cheapest example of any car will need work), and you're at the price of a car over here or BaT. These importers are building a losing business case real quick. -
Wait there's a guy on here with a Lola. @MV8 do you have the lola?

The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
slowdude replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
Seeing a lot of inventory here. Higher than usual this time of year if I look at the past few years. Looks like caterham is similar to motorcycle/powersports/rv market. People are worried about economy and have restricted purchases. Seeing a lot of RHD imports here asking too much money. I've seen some of those cars on car and classic for 17k USD. Shipping etc to the US isn't 10k. Flippers are going to get greedy and cut their losses, which will hurt the legit owners. Very interesting. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I am surprised at the prices of them. -
@IamScotticus is a G. Love to see the support.

I'm with you. Shakedown cruise had the car randomly lose power and had the car running really hot (ecu was hot to touch), although temp gauge said 82 degrees. Power bleeding the coolant system this week, then hopefully the ECU link will cooperate so I can figure out this random power loss and will be at NJMP. The crunch continues, I hope to see you there! -
Thank you sir. As always the genie we ask. I'll back the cable off completely. I saw in an earlier thread that hand tight and then backed off was reccomendation.

Finally bled the coolant and adjusted the clutch. Took it out for a 35 mile loop. Car accelerates much quicker, feels like it is faster (even though it probably isn't). Engine braking is significantly more noticeable (think motorcycle levels of engine braking). Flywheel does require some finer tuning. Car is lugging less in wierd Rev ranges (40mph, 4th gear, 1300 rpm), because I don't think the map is pushing fuel/timing based on throttle sensor). Instead of lugging, it sounds almost like a misfire. It's stumbling. Acceleration fixes it. Since I'm only in that Rev range because I want to brake in the clutch nice and easy, I don't think it's a problem to worry about. If you're not on an unlocked ECU, I could see a new flywheel wreaking a bit of havoc with throttle load sites. I'd definitely do a flywheel upgrade. It's significantly noticeable but you'd need to do some real fine tuning.

Throwing this to the ether. Figured out my incessant rattling noise. Pivot at the bottom of the clutch fork is supposed to have a bushing. Didn't know that when I did the clutch. Any ideas how I could get some sort of bushing in there (or other type of insulating material on the pivot) without taking the engine back out. Alternative is to continue wearing earplugs, but for my 150 mile + trips, it does drive me a little mad.

Been riding for 16 years. Been hit with rocks, bugs, plastic bottles etc. 11 different countries and 50k + miles. Take my below as biased due to the above. Not wearing a helmet is a personal choice, as it is in stated which don't require helmets. It will be great until something goes wrong. Nothing may go wrong, but as every motorcyclist says "it's the other person not me".

Same thing I'm doing, let's see how it goes. NjMP has ample runoff. -
No sir you are correct. I guess whatever the weekend is before?
-
Absolutely. Would love to compare notes etc, see exhausts. This engine sounds fantastic up high in the Rev range.

Anyone want to get a drive in? Ridgefield cars and coffee or hayfields?

First Breakdown, (going to a British car show)
slowdude replied to theDreamer's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Yep I've seen the back and forth on this. I don't think it hurts to have a consistent pressure on it to keep CRB from blowing out, but it reeks of unhinged internet commentor in a tinfoil hat ranting (surprisingly I'm OK with the ranting). I have a CX20E throw out bearing on the T9 to K series. I think it's just the one that fits the clutch fork. -
Update, and for anyone else who goes through this with a rover k series. K series with stock flywheel. 20 degree ignition advance @ 180 degrees. K series with lightweight flywheel, 12 degree ignition advance @ 151 degrees. Timing dependent upon cams BUT this should help someone get into the right ballpark. Up and running, need to burp the coolant system and then go drive it.

Bring a razor blade and a small bottle of rubbing alcohol. Ports sometimes affix big stickers to windscreens to tell dock workers where the car needs to go.

Need to cut up my seat and put the bottom strap in. -
Do you have a half hood for your Caterham?
slowdude replied to Saudio's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Full hood when fitted properly holds off the water extremely well. Went through some all day rainstorms with minimal water ingress and it was only by the door hinge. -
I was able to get my emerald ECU up and running. Batched ignition of cylinders 2&4 etc. Spark is done through a coil to a rotor arm off intake cam. ECU pulses the coil to fire. I couldn't see where I would have affected the timing but I will check it. This starter noise is new to me and having checked electricals, not sure where to check next so timing makes sense. I'll pull plugs again and rotate engine to see what I can get. I was cranking it with the plugs out to read the CPS with the flywheel and didn't have anything come out that I could see.
-
Appreciate this, I'll pick one up and double check!

Got it back together, got ecu updated for new flywheel pattern. Banging my head on the wall with this no start issue. I can't see anything unplugged, clutch has been backed off at the box so it's not super tight and putting pressure. Put a mark on the crank, starter is engaging with flywheel and turning engine. @MV8 any thoughts? What's going on in that noggin of yours? I noticed I had some super frayed starter wires, so re crimped them thinking I was getting voltage drop, but Still making this ZZZ noise. Checked relays. MFRU isnt triggered since the fuel pump is priming. ECU is registering crank position sensor on new flywheel, plugs seem to have fuel (smelled it on plugs when i pulled), coil/rotor arm/plugs are new. Still digging but banging my head against the wall.

Taking Delivery Soon, Questions about unloading
slowdude replied to hahuang65's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Cannot stress this enough. Then if you go to fix something in the future you have it documented. And if for some reason you sell, new owner has a history of the car.
