Some work. Some fight the remote office technology. Some in London discover that the boss is usually right and he should have been listened too earlier. Some clearly have gone to sleep and not surfaced (marketing folks - yet to see an email or call returned from them), and some keep me laughing with these types of jokes for which I believe in sharing the laughs with you all. Productivity is clearly suffering but we will survive. Clearly it will not be a great performance year for bonuses in the company. Are you flying or have they canned all that?

This came from one of my employees - notice how he was halfway through watching? I needed a good laugh today - it’s been grim.

LOL - its the Northern Territory News! Figures. People in the Northern Territory are a strange breed. I think the heat went to the brains. Its a hard country and climate so they were always somewhat unusual. For example, their thirst was formidible. They used to buy beers in 2L bottles called the "Darwin Stubby" Then there is the wildlife - saltwater crocodiles, box jellyfish, the top 3 deadliest snakes in the world and so on, all in Darwin suburban life. Not unusual for the saltwater crocodiles to have a wander into town or maybe hangout around the town wharf for a toddler to drop in. Yet the locals are just so blase about it all. So alcohol definitely helps. I mean, why would you go swimming? But the locals do! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-05-25/woman-flees-nightcliff-beach-after-crocodile-approaches/6495482 Luckily there are no sharks - the crocodiles ate them all. So I am really surprised that they use toilet paper there? Sandpaper maybe. Tree bark?

Thats exactly how I feel. McLaren's leave me somewhat cold - lack any passion for then. But a Senna is difference as you say. I sat in one at Donington and it just was wonderful. Quick as hell too. Would love to drive one - one day
-
Duratecs just radiate so much heat compared to earlier engines - heat insulation is really needed. Great progress being made!

Its the works. Dad picks his mid-year vacation for me to pay for. He picked Peru. So start in Lima, then Sanctuary Valley, Macchu Pichu, Cusco, Nazca and so on. I have to pay the balance next week. I have insurance but even so I am uneasy about planning something for July - I suspect this is going to go on. I think I will make the Goodwood track day in August though.

For those people worried about me, I just want to let you know I have enough toilet paper!

LOL has it ever. I got tested in London last week just before I flew back to US. Cancelled Spa travel bookings yesterday (mentally I cancelled on Tuesday). A bunch of mercy flights yesterday to bring everyone home so they are not trapped for 3 months. Offices closed globally to encourage people to work remotely - we said 2 weeks but really its 3 months being honest once you really think about the logic of what is happening. Figuring London is off limits next month? Bermuda is shut so need to cancel that trip. Was supposed to take my mother on a cruise in June - Rome to Barcelona via Israel. Somehow I suspect thats toast. I think I will get Peru to work in July (he hopes). At least the business is fine. Midtown manhattan was a ghost town on Friday at 2pm. Biggest concern for me is reducing panic. People need to remember this is a virus and not the zombie apocalypse. Top epidemic tip: Buy your toilet paper on amazon!

Sadly I was too optimistic. Spa-Francorchamps closed itself until late-April in response to Coronavirus. Looks like I am out of luck for driving at Spa until next year now. While disappointing, I do recognize that these measures are needed to prevent the spread of the epidemic. Hope everyone else is staying positive in these trying times.

Start with post #13 on this link for a practical overview. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?10365-1999-Birkin-S3-(Last-5-of-build)&p=93662#post93662 Detailed information is here https://icsw.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/ Key things to keep in mind: - over 25 year old cars are fairly easy to import if they are essentially standard - modified over 25 year old cars get problematic based on level of modifications made - Think about foreign titles/registration/documentation proof - you are likely to need it for state registration. You can import on a bill of sale. - If you do not have foreign title then you get into bonded title - I have done a few of those - fairly straight forward. Some states do not have bonded title for foreign imports without title - research if yours is included in this group. - Emissions may be an issue if the car was not sold here originally - research your requirements in advance. At least you are not CA which is difficult for emissions on nearly all foreign imports. - If under 25 years old car - easier to forget about it as Federalization is a pain and not worth putting yourself through it. If you need recommended import co.s then I have two - one high end and the other good middle of the road.

It used to be a good site for finding diamonds in the rough for auction but sadly too many people are there hiking up values. The good news is if you want to sell a Caterham or Birkin there are now better odds of achieving an abovemarket sale price in a shorter timeframe than trying other sales channels or this forum.
-
If you take this approach then: 1) please shorten the ends of the bolts shown in the photo in post #16. Having protrusions pointing towards the tires like that is slightly alarming even though they should not hit the tire. 2) consider allowances for sidewall deformation on hard cornering.

Still take care - there is not as much grip as on a dry warm day. I find braking is the biggest issue - you get wheel lock up quite easily. If you need proof my 3 way video comparison posted this week was on Avon ZZS. It was freezing temps plus moist conditions. Cornering grip surprisingly decent for the conditions. Yes googling "bigheads" could produce some unwanted results.... The website is here https://www.bighead.co.uk/bighead-solutions/extended-range/ The one people use is 32mm square tyrap. As a distributor, they will probably only sell in silly bulk quantities so I would try Ebay to buy four for your purposes. Even if it is UK Ebay, the postage for four won't be too bad. Singles available here in UK https://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/product/cable-tyrap-stainless-steel They ship internationally if you call. Some additional information on using them and prep guidance https://www.lotus7.club/forum/chitchat/bigheads https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/bigheads-0

Avon ZZS are fine for grip at freezing or below - I use them in track days in the UK at that temp. Just be smooth with throttle application and be more cautious of brake application as I find they lock up very very easily. Still plenty of grip for cornering. Why not reposition the wing. You don't need bolts for affixing wing to stay. Most common way is Sikaflex 292i and big heads. Refer photos in post #16. https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/which-sikaflex-252-or-552-or-fixing-bigheads-cf-cycle-wings?page=1 No bolts needed. If you need to reposition then you cut it off, remove old adhesive and start again. Its how I do my CSR.

Now that I have reached a level I am happy with on audio recording Caterhams at high speed (took me long enough!), I am now focused on improving the video. A UK track buddy lent me a new DJI Osmo Action camera to play with this week at Donington. So I tried 3 settings: 1) 4K 60fps with RockSteady. Rock Steady is the vibration and movement reduction that is intended to smooth out the video images. I had tried this with the early version of a Sony Action Camera earlier in this thread and somewhere a few posts above you can see the results of my experiments with a gimbal (failed). The Osmo is essentially identical to the current top range GoPro steadyshot feature. 2) 4K 60fps with no RockSteady 3) 4K 30fps 4:3 ratio and no RockSteady Ignore the laps. It was close to freezing, alternating snow, hail, and drizzle plus a Locost dropped oil around a third of the circuit closely followed by a Datsun 350Z dropping coolant all over the circuit. Donington is notoriously dangerous in slightly wet conditions thanks to the East Midlands airport next door. It actually gets grippier as it gets much wetter as the avgas stuff gets washed off. Test 1 - 4K 60fps and no RockSteady Bounces around with vibration. Donington is a bumpy circuit with quite a few patches. Not too bad though. Test 2 - 4K 60fps with RockSteady You can see the RockSteady feature in 2 ways. It crops the video image - about 10-15% of the image has gone compared with test 1 image above. Secondly, you can see it slightly hunt around as it seeks to compensate for car movements. Much much improved over the old Sony. Not convinced it is better than Test 1? I am curious to see what others think from the comparison. Test 3 4K 30fps 4:3 ratio and no RockSteady No real difference to Test 1 in image quality to be honest. The change in screen ratio from 16:9 (Test 1 and 2) to 4:3 was intended to see if it produced a better field of view. While you see more of the driver and his actions, you lose the wide view. Not convinced its better. Feels slower because of the change in perspective - a wider angle feels faster. Again I will be interested to see what others think from the comparison.

Continuing in my journey of decent audio on Caterham track videos, I have reached 'nerdvana' Two mic set up. Garmin VIRB action camera mounted to rollbar using manfrotto clamp. Twin mic set up using a 3.5mm cable splitter. Twin AT Pro CM 24 mics - internal battery power works better than camera providing power to mic. Both mics are covered with 'dead kitten' mic covers. One mic runs forward along passenger side of cockpit and around outside of scuttle into engine bay where I tape down the mic with non-marking painters tape under the intake on the top of the passenger footwell inside engine bay. Photo link shows the line of blue tape and camera on roll bar. Second mic runs backward and is taped down next to rear exhaust - photo illustrates. The blue painters tape shows the line of wire between camera and mic. End result is pretty good. If you have a side exit exhaust then revert to single mic setup with mic in engine bay or second mic inside boot (under boot cover) near side exhaust.

The first 3 letters of the VIN, 'SDK', in the photo identify it as a Caterham. Its RHD as you correctly saw the steering column going through the middle of the pic. I decided to try my first track day of the year on Tuesday at Donington. Maybe a little early....
