What scale did you build your model in? 1/10 or 1/8? Never seen blue S1 before - love the color!

Caterham or Birkin or Westfield 7 with Duratec or SVT or F20/F22 wanted
Croc replied to airboy808's topic in Cars For Sale
Hi Chris, Not sure if you have seen it or not but there is a Caterham SV chassis SVT Zetec (2004 from vague memory), BRG, that gets listed from time to time for sale that is located in Hawaii. Asking was $39k. Keep an eye out under the Caterham make in Hemmings. If I see it I post it on the sales thread. As far as I know it has not sold. Cheers Edited to add: Oops - it has been sold: http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/caterham/super-7/1742040.html Sorry to get your hopes up. -
Its always good to see a new owner happy about his new pride and joy! Safe Drives! :driving:
-
But you are over 3.5 seconds away from the lap record on that track? That is a yawning chasm of time. A bit like being valedictorian of your summer school. If you lift your knuckles you will go faster - promise! :jester:

1999 Westfield at a dealer so the hyperbole is laid on super thick in this advertisement.... track killer?! Can a Westfield ever be 900 pounds dry? And this one has clams on it! How streetable is a 160hp crossflow? :ack: Never trust a Westfield driver! :iagree: I find red ones particularly bad but yellow ones must also be the same? Then again, let xcarguy loose in a mobility scooter on track and he would be a terror too! Also don't under estimate 100 mile detour to Home Depot excursion on a Saturday morning - works for me! Even before I start the engine, I would be ashamed to drive any of those cars and would always want the Westfield! Don't you have to see a doctor if you catch an STI? Of course it effing does...its effing gel coat! LOL Did someone say topless? Hello Officer.... http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/super-seven/1763637.html Asking $36995 :svengo:in St Louis. All jokes aside - it is an exceptionally well detailed build. There are places where I struggled to recognize it as a Westfield and had to look again to make sure. It looks like it has some Caterham parts mounted on it? Are they called "upgrades"? ;-p I can sort of see why the asking is so high as it is a very nice build with expensive bits on it but.....as we all know....you don't always get your money back from expensive car builds... -

Working kinks out of a new build - engine idle and grinding noise from rear
Croc replied to frizille's topic in General Tech
The grinding noise is rotational related from listening to the video and sounds like a brake pad is rubbing on a disk. My guess - Inconsistent calliper operation so that after it is used initially for braking and then released it does not retract fully and so is rubbing on the disk? Failing springs in the calliper? I last had this when a front wheel bearing was failing and it produced a similar noise effect with no ill effects on braking feel. I am not sure you will see codes even after getting the cable. Codes are an OBDII thing - CAN is the protocol medium over which OBDII data is transferred. The MBE ECU cable (from SBD?) which can hook up to Easimap on your computer will tell you what the engine is doing but not tell you what is wrong with it. So you get real time data which may help but it is not the diagnostic tool that OBDII is. Also not all data is tracked on the MBE ECU unlike a regular car. Another way of seeing what is tracked is by hooking a AIM SOLO DL logger to it (via the J1962 plug) and recording it for playback or look at the logger real time. Here is a sample of the data set on my car from a test drive (map is GPS based data and G force is AIM sensor but the rest is ECU). I had more channels available to read from the ECU but they were reading zero. -
Ah well, I guess someone is having a bad week. Why don't you fix up my grammar since it is so important. In the meantime I am going to knock off work and dive into a beer or two. No question marks for me there.

Another one stumbled over today. Was listed about 9-12 months back at the same asking price http://www.race-cars.com/carsales/lotus/1414030674/1414030674ss.htm Asking $39500 -
ohhhhkaaaaay.... So let me check my facts...you were both driving "Caterman 7"s? Was that a typo in the video and really you were driving a couple of catering vans? And then both of you struggled to pass a BMW 2002? And this was before she surprised you under braking by getting the inside line and making a move on you? I know you are 3 hours behind my time zone but a Caterham is not that slow? Can I come out there and drive in a race? How much do you have to pay to win? :jester: All jokes aside - I was a little surprised they accepted the standard Caterham roll bar? I would have thought they wanted several miles of bubble wrap and battleship steel a la SCCA style?

Skip- The Sigma started being put into Caterhams around mid-2000s from memory. I was initially thinking it was a later transplant with mileage on the new engine shown. But then that would have made it originally a crossflow and more questions are raised by the photos then.... Edited to add - I just realized the exhaust is on the wrong side for the Sigma engine. There is no engine pic to check. Probably a Zetec since they look sort of similar to a Sigma and that would put the exhaust on the correct side. Was there a 1.6L Zetec? I can recall a 1.8L and a 2.0L but not a 1.6? -

Croc replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
On Fleabay. Been on this thread before. Not sure what to make of the unpainted ali on the vents on the bonnet plus the scuttle? Sigma engine would make it slightly more difficult to import legally from Canada since that is an under 25 year old engine despite the chassis. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Other-Makes-Caterham-Lotus-Super-7-/181813372442?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2a54ebe61a&item=181813372442 Currently bid at US$20k with 2 bids and 3 days to run. I hate sellers who just cut and paste wikipedia into the ad and provide no effing information about the car they want to sell. Classic flipper who has no clue what he/she/it has. Rant over. -

Croc replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
Kitcat - The seller was trying to play off that it is an original Lotus 7 S3 chassis from Arch and therefore work 70%-80% of a regular Lotus 7 S3 of the same era. I see his logic but I just don't agree. An early model Caterham is a best value analogy with an additional premium for having the twin cam engine (over say a crossflow) - that should put it mid-$20 at the very most. -

Hi Traveler501 - That is excellent feedback on the car. I think it is steep money at that price and with those things to fix and possibly having to add transport costs on to get it home to you. The fact is that seller started at $34k asking price and has been dropping steadily in the year it has been advertised for sale. I think you made a good call. -

Your best bet is having Tom measure his car since his car is exactly 30 yards from where he is quaffing red wine right now. By contrast I am in Nashville and no where near mine. Pull your finger out Tom! :iagree:
-
I echo Tom and Jim's comments above - come on over to NJMP when the gang is there and we can test fit you in an S3, S5/SV or a CSR in a variety of seats - regular leather, carbon Tillets from the CSR or the cheapy fiberglass Tillets. Some of the cars can even give you the authentic overheating experiences (Tom, Jeff.....) August 1 and 2 would look to be likely dates when we are there - at least I am planning to be and I think I have 3 Caterhams in my garage these days.

Shane - Mike is actually Paul in this instance but he will respond to Shirley!
