  1. Ah...a my knob is better than your knob thread? I could show my knob off but I am too shy...:conehead: All jokes aside there was a good thread a while back here where everyone posted their knob photos: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2216&highlight=knob
  2. Hold on - these latest weights from JohnCH and Manik are before tires right? Has to be because it seems so low. My new BBS wheels are 8 pounds (assuming the 7 inch x 13" sizing). The larger 9x13 rear weighs in at 10 pounds. From other forums the Avon ZZR weighs in at 18 pounds front and 19 pounds rear so that gives an all in of 26 pounds front and 29 pounds rear. If you switch "road" rubber out for slicks then that will save a lot of pounds as the race tire carcasses are much lighter - less robust construction. Interestingly if you want to save unsprung weight then going low profile tires will work since the tires are generally heavier than the wheels. But sevens like a thicker tire profile for handling purposes....interesting dilemma.
  3. Getting this thread back on track.... Looking at the prices and doing a quick comparison to prices offshore. I could save $2000 by buying the 6 speed directly if I was looking at things right now. The Sadev can be sourced $2500 cheaper from a quick online google. I then look at the engine and I actually believe it would be cheaper to buy a Duratec from Cosworth which has to be a first. What is stopping us from buying a roller and then buying our own engine/transmission combo? I suppose then the official dealer network will not touch us for assistance with assembly or after sales?
  4. I just broke the wheel off my Trumi rollaboard suitcase and it weighed 20 grams :spam:
  5. Very well said Mr CASwede! This is what I have been expecting to happen given time. Relax - if you did not call him egotistical then I would have!
  6. Bruce - please keep me informed. While i have just migrated to BBS 13 inch wheels any new CSR wheel solution is always welcomed. You may also want to post updates on the CSR forum where this is always a hot topic globally. Also I had been planning to call you on annother matter - is there a recommended time to call you?
  7. I think a Traqmate has the potential to make your car go faster than all of your other modifications plus keep you safer. Having someone experienced review the data with you is essential despite how painful, scorching, humiliating, etc as all of your flaws are laid out bare on charts and video - yes lets face it - you are freaking SLOW! It sort of ranks up there with the primal fear we all had with our first girlfriend that she might say "I thought it would be bigger than that" That said, I find it helpful tag teaming with another seven around a track that is closely matched is instructive. Watching Mike spear off into the grass tells me a critical message.....apply the brake now!
  8. Its more a miracle that you have not snaffled the keys and "borrowed" them for a short ride to make sure they are "run-in"! Go on...do it.....we know you want to! :driving:
  9. Yep I bet the two facts are connected! Slicks and damp track = pussy in a wet bathtub result - paws everywhere trying to scram. LOL Mike! I still remember that Nov 2011 day when both of us were very green at NJMP Thunderbolt - my first real day there from memory. I am behind you down the straight, you disappear far away from me in corners 1 and 2 and then by corner 3 I am back behind you. We both got reality checks! Need to find that video somewhere.
  10. Ok so now you have put that turd on the table what are you going to do with it? :dupe: :seeya:
  11. Another NYC area seven. :seeya: Not sure where you are exactly but a good Lotus mechanic who will be right at home on a Caterham is Ralph Stechow at RS Motorsports in Closter NJ (Exit 2 off the Palisades Parkway just over the GW Bridge). Phone is (201)750-0700 Shop is fairly small so you will need to book in rather than just turning up. I have used him before and would recommend him. Others on this forum have also used him with success.
  12. Mike - We are possibly the largest annual Caterham/sevens gathering in the US these days although there is a strong Texas contingent that get together from time to time. Both Tom and I thought it would be really neat to invite the manufacturers to lift the profile of our cars for just the track day participation cost. I approached Superformance soon after they took over. It was really too soon as they were not interested. I will try again next month. Tom has made George Alderman aware and I would love to see him there given his significant racing history with sevens. He has been a long standing supporter of Caterhams. We have also alerted Dave Hutchison of R&R who is (or was?) a Birkin dealer in PA. Its a bit (a lot!) far for Brunton Auto and Manik (Westfield) to expect them join in but they would be welcome if they wanted to participate.
  13. Tim (Timax) - I like how you laid out your dash. How did you do the switch labeling on your dash? Is it one of those Canon P-Touch things or something else?
  14. They are called map pockets. I originally saw them on the Caterham UK online parts site and then found them on Ebay cheaper here. They are also on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Map-Pocket-Lightweight-Retainer-High-end/dp/B008QDIE24
  15. Restricting myself to answering the question asked, I am aware of 2 new Caterham sales since Jan 1. I am sure there are others out there that I don't hear about by word of mouth.
  16. Croc

    Which is faster

Not surprising how slow the Bug was to pull out of low speed corners. As you expect the Subie just powered out with AWD and a bunch of torque. But what was stunning was the Bug was so much quicker at high speed elements of the stage. I have never associated a Beetle with high speed competitiveness (let alone handling). I guess the Dak Dak was not stock?
  17. Here is my previous Caterham, now Jude's baby: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/P1010651.jpg Speedo/tach in front of driver. Then water, oil pressure and fuel gauge. I modified it later and do not seem to have taken any photos but the auxiliary gauges were then laid out as: water temp, Mechanicial Oil press/temp dual gauges, fuel, volts Here is my current Caterham when it was pristine new: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/Colorado%20April%202011/DSC_5413_edited-1.jpg speedo/tach behind wheel. Then water temp, oil pressure, oil temp and fuel in the auxiliary gauges. Center console has switches for hazard, start button and window defogger I love having adjustable vents with heat and air con blower controls and column stalk indicators that cancel and headlights high beam on the column stalk at my fingertips and a proper horn button on the steering wheel, and....:troll:
  18. Noooooo! You have it all wrong! :svengo: You should definitely pull chicks with that car! :cooldude:

  25. Those who know me well, know I love looking back with fondness for a gentler time, a more romantic time, a time for women to be treated with the respect they deserve.
