  1. No reason you can't do both. I'm down 90# since the June NJMP se7ens event. (thanks for the inspiration Kitcat) I ran out of CF to put on the car and had to choice but to shed a couple of pounds if I had any hope of keeping up with Croc this year. Now about that light weight battery...
  2. here are a few of mine, I'll skip the boring ones: 1959 VW Beetle Ragtop ($300, painted the parking lot at work) 1956 Willys Jeep Wagon (great low gears) 1956 Land Rover Series One, 80", Rover 3.5L V8, RHD (great NYC car) 1960 MGA (always in the shop, but looked in LA; once got applauded climbing out since I am 6'6") 1978? Diesel Rabbit (40 gallon gas tank, 1500 miles between filling up) 1985 BMW M6 (grey market; great throttle response) 1989 BMW L6 (crazy audio system from previous owner) 1997 BMW 540i (white with aubergine interior; the girls from the Bronx loved it) 2004 BMW 645 (free BMW driving school with purchase at the time) By far my favorite was a motorcycle, 1975 BMW R90S.
  3. While se7ens on the track at The Glen would be great fun, it's not the end of the world. I plan to be there. The area is beautiful and I don't get to see much of it since I go there just for the track. NASA is having an event there September 27-29 (I'm already registered for the event) and perhaps we can get a few se7ens there to enjoy a track day! NASA loves our cars.
  4. I think we will have plenty of fun terrorizing the streets, even without a track day.
  5. Well, it is a process. Once you are signed off by your local PCA instructor, you'll need to have a discussion with the chief instructor for the chapter. Then, you have to get that chief instructor (or track chairman) to talk to the NNJR (Northern New Jersey Region) track chairman (Drew Karpinski trackchair@nnjr-pca.com) to give you the OK. After that you'll have to do a check out ride your first time with the chapter. All this is not too hard to do, you just have to get people to talk to each other for you. The NNJR PCA club runs a very tight ship and goes by the book 100%. No shortcuts on safety or following the rules.
  6. You are correct. And, you will be in the Green Run Group, at least to start. Perhaps if there enough Lotus cars there, PCA would put them in their own run group! I like the location!
  7. Tony, Thanks for taking on the project, let us know how we can help. We are all glad to have a fellow se7ener on the job. If there is a way to drive with NNJR PCA that would be great. Perhaps MichaelD will loan us his clamshells. Watkins Glen is a fantastic location, the racing history alone makes me feel faster every time I am up there. Mike, Can't you write the PCA a special supplemental insurance rider? All, I have camped at Watkins Glen (I confess it was a NASCAR event) and had a great time. For those that don't like camping, I recommend you book hotels early, they can fill up depending on what's going on for the weekend. It would be fun to caravan up from the NYC area before the event. I'll be driving the support rig with the "Cheese Doodle" in side. Karl
  8. They have had a rule on the books for years banning open wheel cars. I went off at a Lime Rock PCA event last April. I suspect while reviewing the accident, they decided that a se7en was an open wheel car since the fenders were not attached to the front fenders. I have been told that their insurance policy would not cover an open wheeled car. I ran many events with them and always had a great time. No issues with NASA or SCDA though. If anyone is going to run with PCA, they should watch for the registration dates and sign up as soon as it opens. PCA members can register two weeks before non-members and Watkins Glen always fills up fast.
  9. PCA track day restrictions or not (and I do feel somewhat responsible for bringing the rules to the surface) plan to go. While The Glen is a great track, the lake and surrounding roads are beautiful.
  10. Yes, se7ens are banned, have to have fenders attached on all four corners.
  11. So Croc, will a smaller battery give you room for the Synergy Power V8?
  12. Steve, maybe you felt safe because we were going super slow!
  13. If you want something customized you can reach out to Phil at Caged directly. His email is phil@cagedlaser.com. The pricing was reasonable, shipping was expensive (I think about $900 but don't quote me since mine came with a new chassis)
  14. Exactly why I added the side intrusion bar. You have to climb in through the top, but. If I can do it, anyone can!
  15. Here is a photo of my cage. A real work of art. http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/th_IMG_0102.jpg
  16. I got mine directly from caged. Made four inches taller than normal, with an extra side intrusion bar and FIA decal. SCCA issued me an approval letter since it was FIA approved.
  17. I lost 85# in the last six months with Medifast. Only because I ran out of parts to replace with carbon fiber.
  18. I got them about 10 years ago, as a youth it was 8-track tapes and transistor radios!
  19. I think you are talking about the Varley Red Top 25. 20 AH and 220 CCA, weighing 13.5 lbs. Perhaps you really need to consider the country of origin. Shouldn't a car as pretty as yours have a proper british battery? That's half the reason I chose the Varley. Karl
  20. Nothing sounds better than tube amps! McIntosh is my favorite. Keep meaning to stop at the factory on the way to Watkins Glen.
  21. I have a Varley Redtop 25. They need special attention to last (purpose built charger) but save lots of weight. Just could not get my head around the cost of lithium batteries, but they sure look cool.
  22. Lime Rock has good camping if that's the plan and coordinating with the Historics Race would be loads of fun! My first track day was at Monticello and I highly recommend it. I'm in!!!
  23. Great videos! Thanks for posting them.
  24. Here is a video from Sunday morning
  25. Guys, thanks for putting it together! I had a great time, but was disappointed that the professional instructor that took out my car at the end of the weekend could not lap Mike and Tom. And he was drifting through the octopus.
