I have the winch mounted under a cabinet in the nose of the trailer. Solar panels trickle charge the batteries. The winch is a Warn ATV winch with the synthetic cable (a super strong rope) and wireless remote control. A winch to close the trailer door is on my short list. Thankfully I have long legs and just step right over the front wheels to get out. I would definately go with a wider trailer if I were to do it all over. The best thing about the narrow trailer is you don't need extended mirrors. http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/IMG00139-20110612-1639.jpg

Here is a quote from the event document: 6. CAR ELIGIBILITY. The Drivers School is open to cars in all classes recognized for regional racing in the current GCR, cars prepared for SCCA professional racing and cars in supplemental regional classes such as Club Ford and GT Pinto. The school is also open to all cars conforming to Trials Level 4 regulations. All cars must conform to the minimum safety specifications as stated in the GCR. The vehicle logbook requirement will be waived for Trials cars. Vintage cars will also be eligible for the Drivers School if they meet the GCR specifications for safety and are capable of speeds equivalent to other cars in their group. The Chief Scrutineer and the Chief Steward have the right of final refusal on all vintage cars with respect to safety and speed potential. Full entry fee will be refunded for cars not meeting these requirements. 7. DRIVER ELIGIBILITY. The Drivers School will be open to all non-licensed drivers holding Novice Permits. In addition, a limited number of drivers with Regional Licenses will be accepted on a space available basis. No drivers with National Licenses are eligible. Each student driver must present a current SCCA membership card and a current Novice Permit or Regional License at registration. In an article about the various SCCA classes they put Sevens in a group of like cars (They never saw the Crocmobile). "In E production, you find things like 2002s, 2 Liter Alfa Spiders, Lotus Super Sevens, MGBs, and Jensen Healeys."

This is an event that requires a "Novice" license. No track experience is necessary, but you do need to pay the $110 fee and submit a physical. I spoke at length with the lead tech inspector for SJ SCCA and he had no issues with the Caterham. I sent in photos of the roll bar and discussed the car with him. The one odd thing was that they don't allow regular windscreens without a roll cage. The Aeroscreen is fine. The Caterham is placed in their E Production class along with other modified street cars. Their regular drivers' education events (PDX) events are only open to street cars and the Hudson Valley region did not like Caterhams, but had agreed to let me in last year. This is the school that would meet the requirements to let you race in regional SCCA events. And it would be a real opportunity to put that very cool diffuser to the test. Exoticars USA BBQ Lunch and Drive Saturday Feb. 11
blubarisax replied to blubarisax's topic in Northeast
Glad to have another british car in the pic! -
If we get another 50 degree day next Saturday this might be fun. For anyone who has not been to Wil's shop it's a real treat. If any of the NNJ crew wants to take a ride out, I'll drive in a more civilized car. Let me know if anyone wants to go so we can RSVP in a timely manner. Nice to see my car is in good company at the shop! http://gallery.mailchimp.com/3de8899dc523423c4f050f70f/images/shopvernsiphone.jpg Here is a link to the invite: http://us2.campaign-archive1.com/?u=3de8899dc523423c4f050f70f&id=d8900d82ae&e=3b7c31bdb9

The SCCA is having a Double Driving School at NJMP. Not that I plan on racing, I'm told the school is excellent. There is lots of driving time and the price is not nearly as much as Skip Barber and the like. As an added plus, it is over a weekend. I'm going to do it, so if anyone wants to join me just let me know. There are a few hoops to jump through like getting a Novice SCCA License, Physical Exam and transponder (I think you can rent them at NJMP). They suggest a pit crew as there is not much time between classroom sessions and track time (any volunteers are welcome). The whole track is dedicated to just two run groups, so lots of seat time. Karl http://www.sjr-scca.org/ The School The Jersey Racing Board's annual drivers school is scheduled on March 30 - April 1 on the New Jersey Motorsports Park Lightning Circuit. This year the format has been changed to a double school to offer more track time and more instruction. This two day event is intended to provide all of the experience necessary to fulfill the drivers school requirements. The Instruction will be provided by the New Jersey Drivers Academy, the same cadre of instructors who have been conducting the NJMP schools since its opening. Instruction will begin on Friday evening with a comprehensive classroom ground school. Saturday and Sunday will feature student / instructor drive arounds, on-track sessions and classroom debriefs. Both days will conclude with practice starts / races. Novice and Regional drivers are eligible Registration for the March Lion is now open on DLB ( http://www.dlbracing.com ), set the filter for South Jersey Region For additional school information, contact the JRB at JRB@njrrs.com For licensing information and assistance, contact Terry Hanushek ( THanushek@rcn.com ) The Track - New Jersey Motorsports Park - Lightning The 1.9 mile Northern Circuit is known as Lightning. This 10 corner circuit is technical and challenging featuring some of the most interesting and dramatic corners and elevation changes. The 20 acre paddock area has concession areas, timing towers and school and drivers meeting room facilities. A great track to learn race craft. Visit http://www.NJMP.com for more information about the track.

You are welcome to try out my Superlight SV for size. Currently it's at Exoticars USA in Frenchtown, NJ, not too far from you. I'm sure Wil at Exoticars would let you sit in it.

No reason to get a trailer that is too wide! (lesson learned, measure twice and cut once) This is a Featherlite 1610, motorcycle trailer that is only 6'7" wide (opening is 8" narrower) and 16' long. Easy to tow and plenty of room. A/C and an awning are in the future. http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/IMG00129-20110611-1609_3.jpg http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/IMG00118-20110514-1659.jpg

I use the Prodigy as well. Nice not to have to wire anything in the truck.

I just droped my car off at Exoticars - USA to get prepared for the season. (special mods to keep up with Croc). I also invited Bill Thomas to join us in his Lotus. He declined to take his 40th Annivarsary Caterham on.the track.

Mike, Please give us a heads up if you see when the registration opens!:cheers::party::party:

I have to tell you all that 125 is plenty fast in a Caterham. Last year the GPS had me at 141 driving the full tri-oval at Pocono Raceway. Full windscreen and 500#' of passengers! That was as fast as I want to go. Thankfully I was drafting behind a Porsche GT3!

I'm in! At least for Monday. Keep in mind Hyperfest is the weekend before! Caravan? ...and if that's not enough, NASA has an event May 26-27 at NJMP for those of us that could use a little extra seat time.

So, I am thinking about installing an ATL fuel cell. I run 100 Octane race gas because of my high compression motor which makes a larger tank desirable. My concern is that I have a fire extinguisher in the boot that I hope would still fit with the 55 liter fuel cell. I'd love to see a picture of the caterham ATL tank installed. I have a Caterham SV, so I hope that translates to more room in the boot. Thanks, Karl

WTB Rear Fenders Caterham /Birkin/Locost Style WIDE
blubarisax replied to Bonjo2's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Terry, I also think the rear tire width has a lot to do with how strong your motor is. I run Michelin slicks that are 23/57-13 on the rear and 20/54-13 on the front. The car is very neutral. I've got a Cosworth Formula Atlantic motor in mine putting out 295 brake HP. I'm following the recommendations of Joachim Westermann, owner of MOG-Racing and a respected German Caterham racer. Karl -
Tom, congratulations on your daughters wedding! Happy New Year to all!

So did Santa get you anything for your 7?
blubarisax replied to Mondo's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I put my Smartycam microphone in the boot as well, very near the top under the soft cover. It works well and the only place out of the wind my short cable will reach. -
I have a set that came off of my Caterham Superlight, with the black package. It includes the entire unit, but I may be missing one of the retaining nuts at the base of the unit.

So did Santa get you anything for your 7?
blubarisax replied to Mondo's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Oh ya, santa was very good to mine! I'll do anything to keep up with Croc! -
Best wishes to all you and your Se7ens. May their stockings be stuffed with go fast parts and carbon fiber!

Has anyone out there used the iRacing simulation software? They don't have a Caterham and I think it's an outrage! I'm desperate to hone my driving skills this winter so I can keep up with Tom and Croc.

Croc, Ron, Tom, Steve, Mike... where are you? Forget the family vacations and join in!!! Caterham caravan from NJ :driving::driving::driving: Croc, I know just the right trailer for you! http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/378447_341908669157069_100000138173384_1571719_344356773_n.jpg

I'd be happy to fill up the trailer with any items from those trailerless seven owners from New Jersey. The drive is about 5 hours for me from northern new jersey. Cheap rooms are still available, act quickly!!! Karl

This sounds like my kind of event, getting rolled by hyper girls... Count me in! Karl
