And use thread lock. 'Snug' is critical otherwise warped sump pan and leaks (not that Crossflows ever leak!) If you don't have them, there are spreader washers available that help a lot and replacing the bolts with Capheads makes tightening much easier using an allen key rather than a socket.

The way that wheel gets wrenched I am surprised he is still pointing straight ahead. Must be a well balanced car! And some good driving.

I will be there at either the start, drive, finish. Maybe all three if I get my act together! To be honest, still nervous of that first long outing having done work to the car. Planning a 100 miler this weekend so once that is OK, will be much happier.

Ironically and strangely I was at the Shelby HQ and the small museum in Vegas just this morning. It must have been before the news broke as I was not aware until later that he had passed. The museum is very small but has a lovely selection of cars from early ACs to Shelby Mustangs through to 2013 Mustangs. Once I get iCloud to do its stuff I will post a coupl eof pics. One in particular most appropriate. RIP a great innovator and racer!

I guess part of the answer is another question. What do you plan to use the car for? Having had cars with T9 transmissions and used both standard and Tilton clutches, they provide a very different experience all round. Standard is ideal for road use and some track work where fast changes or hard starts are not required and has a nice smooth take up and lighter feel. For a light car with not too much power, I dont see you need anytiing else. The Tilton race-style clutches tend to be either on or off and horrible in traffic or for smooth starts without attracting the wrong kind of Attention! Good anti-theft device though unless you know what to expect!

I have RA-1s on the car and although kept in an unheated garage, the temperature never went close to freezing. I used 888's previously and they were OK too. Having said that I am sure warmer is better I always used to keep my slicks wrapped in cling wrap but mainly to keep them dust and dirt free - even when on the car until I needed them.

I think I have found what I need. The Caterham supplied Billys are not adjustable but you can get a kit to convert them for ride height adjustment. No damping adjustment though. That just makes them much more expensive than comparable items from Gaz, Protech etc that are adjustable. I am leaning towards Gaz. I have had two sets before and are very good value, last well and look good. Protechs look great and are all alloy although do have a much larger eye surround for the bolt holes than steel items so may need some 'adjustment' (grinding off!) The consensus on lengths between centres of eyes/ top of rear (to suit my LA car) are: Front: 315mm Rear: 440mm Just as an FYI and get all my options on the table, I will also go with these springs rates: Front: 275lb Rear: 140lb .. and if I dont like them, springs are only about a tenner each.

Car back on the road after a winter refresh and feels great. But... the suspension is terrible and trying to adjust I realize one of the Spax adjuster screws just keeps on turning and does nothing. Unfortunately it is also on the softest setting and could make track experiences very interesting! So time for a new set. Anyway, the car is an '85 S3 LA with the later upper half wishbone setup so can anyone advise whether this needs anything different from the standard dampers/springs? Some LA front damper sets I have found talk about post 1989 or thereabouts - Gaz or Avo (PC565 front, PB148 rear) most likely route (on a budget) but other options also considered.

Absolutely right and VAT is now 20%! When purchasing anything from the UK, make sure they do not charge you the VAT. It does not matter to the supplier other than filing the paperwork differently. That 20% probably covers the shipping. I have purchased a lot of bits and pieces off Ebay from the UK too and generally arrives as quickly as from within the US.

Thanks guys, I now have exactly what I need and identified one of the circuit breakers as the culprit. They seem a neat idea but it may be time to replace with a fuse box. They fall out very easily too so not really a great design.

Hi Does anyone know of a digital version of a wiring diagram suitable for a '85 Crossflow. Having a few issues with RH side rear lamp and front 'marker', not the bulb on either. Can be fixed by connecting to the LH side feed for both but prefer to find the problem if possible. If anyone has a wiring diagram to hand and can scan it, please send me a PM. I believe there is on in the Tony Weale book (I want a copy but like Hens teeth!) Much appreciated.

Looks like around 9 spaces already filled for this event. Could be a good event and talking with the organiser, should get everyone about 2 hours track time. This will be very different to anything at NJMP due to the small and tight circuit, but at least it is local!
