  1. maybe make a bracket to move the lights forward to the nose taper to allow for tilt. more welding practice. or like the Ultralite mount onto the bonnet.
  2. Speaking of wing vents, louvers, where were they purchased or were they made locally? thanks mike
  3. No affiliation with this but it looks real nice, seems to be more for sale in the NW, https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/d/1964-lotus-seven-replica/6257507881.html
  4. I also had my right hip replaced 18 months ago and the only down side is that I had to give up competitive Trials riding, I will still trail ride and observe at events, and that means more time for track days, 5 so far this year, which are way more expensive than even high level Trials competition. As everyone else has commented it was the best thing to do with such a deteriorated joint and it gives me absolutely no problems, you just don't want to land on your leg real hard and have it work like a splitting wedge on your femur. Here is an x ray done 6 months ago, and as Chapman would say, add lightness.
  5. It might be worthwhile to try a set of F-2 emulsion tubes, the transfer holes are a little lower than most and give a smoother tip in at low rpm.
  6. Nice looking pre lit Westfield. No affiliation with this seller, but I did talk to him and he is quite knowledgeable. Not many sevens come up for sale in the NW. Good chance for a local person to snag this. https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/6127575873.html
  7. Dave, you picked the right day to come on board. I was just looking at the Portland Craigs List and what do I spy but a nice looking Westfield here local. I was thinking on taking a look myself, but I'm starting to build an arena for my wifes hobby. I think replicas are the sincerest form of flattery, and even an original Lotus 7 is a lowly kit car, it's just the original. You are welcome to contact me, I'm just over the creek in Gresham. https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/6127575873.html mike
  8. I have been lucky at several track days that the promoter has dedicated personnel to take tire temps and pressures immediately after a session and have found that at ORP and The Ridge they recommended 26 psi front and rear, this pressure yielded only a 2 degree difference across the tires, I did notice a difference especially in the off camber corners at ORP. I run the same pressure on the street . Obviously cross section makes a big difference. They also recommended always setting a base line on cold temp pressure and using a needle type pyrometer not a laser. More likely than not the hot temps will vary from track to track and cw to cc travel and from tire position but it will get all but the top scca racer in the ballpark.
  9. If you have a mesh type grill you could use, like mine, an aluminum Z bracket with large washers behind the grill, have had no problems with staying on with over 9000 miles. I talked to the local authorities and they wanted to see the month and year sticker on the front also since they are color coded. The car is a brick anyway so I didn't think this would slow me down any. mike
  10. Well Hello fellow Oregonian, you will really enjoy this forum, all the people are great at helping you enjoy even more the experience of owning a 7. I hope in the future to be able to acquire an original one from 1959 to 1965. The ice is just melting here but I don't think I will have mine out for at least another week. mike
  11. Hi rnr, my front spring rate is 400# the rears I don't know since the stamping was so light I could not read even with dyeing it and a mag glass. I have never had a vibration on street or track, car tracks great. -1 1/2 camber FandR , 1/16 toe front and 0 rear ( 0 toe was too quick for me ) I am still running QA shocks but have changed the damping to heavier rebound, settles in the corners better. My car hooks up great out of the corners with minimal if any wheel spin. I run a 3.90 viscous LSD not a 4.11 which may induce more wheel spin also if it is open. I am building another 3.90 LSD with a Cusco unit in it. It takes a while to learn your car and how to carry speed without using the throttle as much, I now have over 3,000 miles of track use and I'm still a beginner compared to some of the people I run with.
  12. Hello, I have had good luck with the Faulken 615k, 225 front 245 rear for the street. I run the same size in Nitto NT 01 for track days, both sets are mounted on light weight Enkei wheels. I have been lucky at several track days that the promoter has dedicated personnel to take tire temps immediately after a session and have found that at ORP and The Ridge they recommended 26 psi front and rear, this pressure yielded only a 2 degree difference across the tires, I did notice a difference especially in the off camber corners at ORP. I run the same pressure on the street in the Faulkens.
  13. This is the product, Spill Free Funnel from Lisle tools, that I have used on my Toyota and my Ultralite, really worked great. there is a short video too. http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/products/?product=606 mike
  14. Could it be that all the air is not bled out of the cooling system? my 20r Toyota motor would do several strange things until I purged all the air.
  15. Pictures? I'm one of those people interested in a "real" seven of the early sixties vintage, maybe even as early as a Lotus 7 America.
  16. I have used an oscillating cutting tool with a half round and narrow straight metal cutting blade to cut sheet metal and fiberglass, it is very easy to hold a steady line and clean up is just with a half round and flat mill file. They now have tungsten blades of which I have not tried yet.
  17. Hello, I am currently using a viscous LSD but have recently purchased another open diff and am saving up for a Cusco unit, I have heard some good things about them and they are available for many applications and are offered by several shops in my area. http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/catalog/limited_slip_differential_-_hy.html mike
  18. More Lotus Position, I'm sure Loren won't mind. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?2107-Ultralite-under-construction/page7
  19. Hey Bill that is great, I'm all signed for Weds. also, see you there. Weather looks great. mike
  20. Just wondering if anyone in the NW was planning on doing a track day with Hooked on Driving Aug. 17 or Aug. 18. I will be there one of the days as long as there will be no rain. :driving:
  21. so this is where Clown school begins.
  22. I have a 2005 Ultralite with over 2000 track miles, and have Wilwood master cylinders, calipers, rotors and pads no boost and I can out brake most of the cars I run with, no fade, no lockup for 20 to 25 minute sessions in intermediate and advanced hpde classes. My opinion it would just add weight and something else to go wrong, always apply the KISS method.
  23. Here's another one in the Seattle area, no affiliation. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5442760404.html
  24. Don't tell anybody, but we have at least one or two days a week during the winter that are worth going for a spin, I just wear a helmet and warm jacket. I don't go blasting the back roads but it is a great stress reliever to go for a cruise on a crisp day, pretty much like a four wheel motorcycle. I'm looking forward to this Sunday, sunshine and 60 degrees.
  25. ok John, now you've got me in trouble, as soon as my dog sees that your dog is driving I'll never get the left seat back.
