  1. With the discussion on 7 brakes using triumph uprights, depends on which upright. The spitfire upright uses 3.25 bolt spacing whereas the stronger GT6 upright uses 3.5 bolt spacing. I was able to bolt on Wilwood 4 pot calipers onto the GT6 upright with a little machining on the caliper. Also lost about 10 lbs per caliper. Wayne
  2. From the Chinook motorhome list: Lettering in Florida (http://doityourselflettering.com/). Maybe this will help us with decals. Wayne
  3. Probably the MSD coil. One of the guys here in town had his MSD coil go out during the National Tour. The dyno tune guy said that MSD is problematic and to stick with the Ford coils. YMMV Wayne
  4. Dean, One trick that will help in shifting a right hand drive is to turn your wrist over for the 1-2 or 2-1 shift then turn it to normal for the 3-4 shift. Reverse is still hunt and peck. Wayne '62 S7 RHD
  5. Hi, The first time that the Tesla was shown on TV in San Diego, guess what was parked behind it with only a nose cone (big hint) showing ------ Super 7 Also talked with the owner at Rolling British Car Days. Wayne
  6. Michael, To help reduce the noise intake, I made an alloy air box. It is shaped to follow the contour of the sides of the chassis and picks up air through the heater opening. Lots of work to make the box, but looks and works well. Since the taper is to the front, no signs that the front cylinders are short on air. Haven't dynoed before and after, but it sure worked to cut down the noise. Remember, San Diego stadium has 93 db @ 50 ft @ WOT. Wayne
  7. Been thinking about a mini clubman s with auto. Drove one on a short test drive. What is the groups opinion on these? thanks, Wayne
  8. Have a rolling chassis kit for sale in San Diego. Details and pictures available upon request. Wayne in San Diego
  9. When you have to not exceed 93 db @50' on WOT, you have to have imagination. When I was running a BDA, I had to have three mufflers on the side of my se7en. I end up with a "trombone" exhaust and a custom airbox which gets air from the cockpit through the heater opening. Now that the Zetec turns 8K opposed to 9.5K, two mufflers do the job. My hope is the lighter titanium muffler will be quiet enough to replace the spiral muffler, 180 degree tube and Ultraflow muffler. Should know in a couple of weeks.
  10. I got one off ebay a couple of years ago and finally got around to working on it. I had fears of working with the material. My friend has to learn to weld titanium next. He previously made a muffler out of incanel, so this wouldn't much of a problem. You have surround the weld in argon. The muffler is double pass, 2.5 in and a pair of 1.5 out. The ends turn down. I have clamshells, so the muffler tucks under the fender. When the 2 bolt flange is welded back on, the muffler might be 8 lbs. Wayne
  11. Getting ready to try Z06 titanium muffler. When you removed the heavy stainless strap (2lbs) and the tailpile extensions, you are left with a 7 (what else) muffler. Won't know what the sound level until the 30th, but removing Ultraflow and spiral muffler (over 20 + lbs). This is for a 185HP (rear wheel) Zetec running close to 8K. Wayne
  12. I remember taking a Sunday ride in this car out to the Torrey Pines glider port. Wayne in San Dieo
  13. Mikes car is for sale in San Diego. It is an almost completed kit. Mike made a beautiful carbon fiber dash. The whole car is assembled to his high standards. Mike was killed in his sailplane about a month ago. His widow says to sell it for the price of parts even though it is a roller and has a 2K engine, tranny and ECU. Contact me at "super7guy7@yahoo.com" for more information. Have pictures from this weekend. Wayne Lotus and Caterham
  14. Loren, Mike's wife could use some help to get rid of Mikes car. Write me at "super7guy7@yahoo.com" so we can talk. thanks, Wayne
  15. I was able to machine (hand file) the stock Z3 bracket so that the Geo alt lays into it. Just one long bolt holds it in place and since it is fully supported, the belt tension ensures that it does lift up. I too have a tight clearance on my Cat long cockpit chassis. Wayne
  16. Sorry to say that Mike Wills of Spring Valley, CA was killed this weekend in Utah doing one his passions. In addition to building an Ultralite from kit form, he was also a pilot, His glider was lost around 5pm on Saturday and his body was found on Sunday morning. It appears that he never cleared the mountains. Wayne
  17. Hi, When I was looking for drive shaft hoops to meet the D mod rule, I found that the Jegs/Summit loop was a very good starting point and the price was right; around $12 for a 5" loop, 2" wide of 1/4" material. (YPMV) Of course, you could probably lift the car with this hoop. The trick was to find a way to attach it to the Caterham frame. Wayne
  18. Hi Guys, I had to quiet down a BDA. Used the spiral muffler and two big Ultraflow mufflers to get the job done. Also did the intake side by making an enclosure using 1/8" alloy and picking up cold air from the heater opening. It all worked together well. Wayne
  19. Ian et all, You may be thinking of a spiral muffler. The concept is patented, but both Jegs and others sell them as race mufflers. Our dyno testing shows negligable hp loss. That being said, you still need a muffler with volume. To be really quiet, you need a muffler with a street rating, not a race rating. We have to run under 93 db wide open throttle at 50 ft. Wayne
  20. Hi KYO, Not sure if this is any more readly available, but I used a Datsun 1200 axle, It fits with ease after the mounts are made and is only maybe a 1/2' wider, has a drain plug and much stronger axles. I have a LSD in mine and added a bridge support behind the axle. Wayne "62 Super 7
