  1. What is under the black rectangle on the caterham 6 speed? it is approx. 1.5x2 on the topside and close to middle. Don't want to remove this plate to find out. thanks, Wayne

  3. Ford competition ultra close ratio, full synchro, 3 rail gearbox built on the Ford 2821E cast iron casing with a GW magnesium tailhousing (saves 10 lbs). ratios are 2.30, 1.70,.1.28,1. very rare Asking $1800 OBO, Wayne at "super7guy7@yahoo.com"
  4. Depending on the year of your chassis, a 5 speed may not fit using the existing trans mounts. I had to build a new trans cradle and trans mount to fit a 5 speed into a '83 big tube chassis. If you want to use the original mountings, I have two Ford competition 4 speeds FS. Wayne Wayne
  5. Did anyone else note that the Caterham uses the duratec engine whereas the Ginetta uses the zetec. Could not tell which transmission that Ginetta was using. Wayne, still running built zetec
  6. Rocket competition box, 4 speed. Brought the gearset back from the UK and had them installed; Rocket ratios are 2.54, 1.666. 1.25. 1.0 Bullet (aka rare bullit) competition, 3-rail, 4 speed. Bullit ratios are 2.30, 1.70, 1.28, 1.0 Wayne in San Diego super7guy7@yahoo.com
  7. You might post to http://californiacaterhamclub.com/ to see what might be going. Wayne in San Diego
  8. Yes, even my Ford alloy block, M721F, has provisions for a full length cam for the fuel pump and distributor or jack shaft for just the distributor. As I understand, the later BDP alloy blocks were different and did not provide for the fuel pump. A rare block indeed carried over in my luggage. Wayne
  9. This is talent that might be carried on only by a very few in the future. I've heard that England is encouraging some young men/woman to carry on these skills. It was like watching the caterham film where a young man was forming the top rear corner bend at caterham using a hand held torch and wood hammer/former.
  10. Sundays results were under the sound meter, but the meter was opposite the exhaust side. All modified cars have to work hard to meet the sound requirements at the "Q". I seemed to hear the intake noise more clearly (its intake is from the cockpit through the heater opening), so maybe the exhaust noise is reduced. Engine seemed to rev quicker, so maybe I have a winner here. Wayne
  11. Cantilever tires are made by Hoosier and American Racer has tires for FF which are probably also cantilever. Avon has the largest compound range. Wayne in SCCA D mod
  12. Randy, If you remember, the old setup consisting of a bullet and Ultraflow combination did not need a direction deflector. so hoping that it is the same for this one. One main difference is that this one blows straight down whereas the older was straight back. Time will time. So far, the titanium and twin pipes seems to reduce the 4 cylinder raspiness (if that is a word) Wayne
  13. Completed the fab and installation of the muffler today. So far sounds throatier. Now have less weight hanging off the side the car. Lost at least 10 lbs. Find out on Sunday, if sound is under 93db @ 50 ft. Our requirement at the stadium. Wayne
  14. Been told by a couple of machine shops, that they can't duplicate the factory build. As an example, one of the honda engines requires a double stepped bore for the liner. He machinist said that by the time they moved the alloy block into the sun to take it to another shop, the block was out of spec for the liner. The is "no extra meat left on the bones". The factory engines are designed for max power within emissions and lowest weight within warrantee. Only the old muscle cars provide business for the machinist. YMMV Wayne
  15. Another source for a remote relay is an RV store. Looks a little different, but they are used to remotely connect/discon the house battery usually located in the rear of the MH. Wayne
  16. Couple of questions: What chassis are you working with? Why do think that you need a drysump? the zetec comes with a very good windage tray. I have been running on slicks with a well baffled and gated wet sump below the alloy windage tray. Wayne
  17. The crank stop pin does not hold the crankshaft in alignment, it only resists further rotation. If you have adjustable cam pulleys, the cam lock only works properly with the cams in zero A/R position. If the cams have any A/R, the cams must be reset to zero prior to belt installation and then set back to their former A/R positions. Good idea to mark all pulleys before hand to enable a "sanity check" afterward. Wayne in San Diego
  18. Have yet to hear the sound and sure hope that it meets our "Q" requirements of 93db@50'. Guessing that it will have a unique sound. Have more fabrication to get it installed on the side of my Cat Will have 3 bolt flange off header, 180 bend and 2 bolt flange to match up. Everything is 2.5 dia.
  19. Heres pics
  20. Just finished the modifications to a C5 titanium muffler. This muffler weighs 7 lbs without the heavy (2 lb) SS strap. Required welding the titanium flange to the end of the muffler, so that the remaining tubing can be SS. This is a 2 pass muffler with dual outlets (inlet and outlet on same end). Can supply pics on request. Wayne super7guy7@yahoo.com
  21. If Santa missed you this year, have all the parts for either a 1.6L or 2L build including Ford alloy block. Details and pics on race-cars.com, contact me directly if interested or have questions. Wayne in San Diego super7guy7@yahoo.com
  22. Some USA choices are QA1 and Viking. You can cut down the spring perches to accept 2.25 springs. They also have 1.87 springs and bodies, if you want smaller shocks. Wayne in San Diego
  23. Also try Bogart for racing wheels. Many in use in San Diego

  25. Gearbox, I may be able to help you. I have a 62 Super 7 that has most if not all of the original parts. Pretty sure that my original trans has that part. I am located in San Diego. Wayne aka super7guy7@yahoo.com
