The answer depends on the state the original title and the new title were issued in, can an salvage auction company have a title that was never marked as salvage, absolutely, happens all the time. Will your new title be marked salvage, that is a question for the selling dealer, not a web based forum. Damage wise, on a tube type framed vehicle like a 7, you can have torsional twist. To understand this, if the car was damaged in the left front, depending on how hard the hit was, could twist the frame all the way back to the right rear. To visualize what I'm talking about, grab a small note pad in both hands, now or drop the left corner and see what happens to the right lower corner in the process, the same thing could have occurred to the car you are looking at. So while the damage to the front of the car was repaired, if the car was not tied down to a frame rack, and several cross measurements taken to check for such torsional damage, you'll never know if the car was truly properly repaired, or just cosmetically repaired. As for why an owner chose not to repair the car, as a retired bodyshop owner, I can tell you that owners become gun-shy about the car once an accident occurred, they no longer want anything to do with it, superstitious or otherwise and will essentially push for a payout and walk away. As a follow up, last weekend we had the 289 roadster out for a multi day, 287 mile tour in the hills of NW Georgia/Tenn/NC along with 67 other Cobra owners. Some had hardtops, some custom made bikini tops, or full soft tops (I am now down to 4 minutes 48 seconds as a best time to install from scratch, not including side curtains, which take another 20-30 seconds each side). As we had rolling thunderstorms and torrential rain, any time we were in the car past 3pm, the top was installed, before that, it was safely folded in the trunk. The only way to get in the car with the top up is head first. The shot below is for comparison purposes only:

Awaiting a classification inquiry for my green 289 roadster In the past, similar cars have been disqualified from the show because they were not originally produced in the 60's-70's or earlier. Having allowed later produced Caterham vehicles (like yours) to participate last year, we will see what this year brings.

Just class/car set up and management issues, nothing horrific for you guys, not something to discuss further in public.

NJ does not allow for 3rd party companies to do private party registrations, especially when it comes to kit cars such as your Caterham. I did it two dozen or so times while still living in NJ. It's not rocket science in NJ, contact the specialty titles division by stopping at their offices at 225 E State St,Trenton, calling them at 609-292-6500 x5064 or 609-292-4571 and ask for the "kit car" packet. Follow the rules to the letter. Having dealt with major overseas related companies either importing or exporting their goods for close to or over 30 years, I can tell you they pad their pricing for such an occurrence (some have confidentially told me in the past up to 40% in some cases). Some will eat some of the losses, others will pass only part of it to you the consumer, others will keep their quiet profit and pass along to the consumer so as to not affect their bloated bottom line(s). I do not recommend Uship, I'm still getting calls, emails, and texts asking if I'm ready to ship a car I have not owned for 14 years. As far as one way rentals, yet, Uhaul will rent you just a trailer if you have a vehicle in which they deem safe to tow it with. Ford Explorers, regardless of year are prohibited, anything weighing less then the trailer and vehicle you plan to town on it are also prohibited. Class III hitch required, along with wiring for their running, turn, and brake lights. Me personally, I'd rent one of the smaller box trucks to tow their trailer, spend a few extra dollars on their insurance for the same, and be done with it. I have towed their trailers one way with two (2000 & 2023) Expeditions, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2001) without an issue.
