Lightweight (lithium most likely) battery recs?

I'm lazy and tired of looking. Does anyone have any recs for small/lightweight, hopefully lithium batteries that are sub $300?

I tried to run a Ballistic lithium battery for a couple of years, but it died every year, despite removing it and putting it on their charger off and on over the winter. I went through three of them, replaced under warranty. One failed by developing a big scary 'tumor', the other just died. Not surprised they went out of business. JohnCH ran the same battery and had much better luck with it however.

I tried to order this battery twice from Jegs. https://www.jegs.com/i/XS-Power/703/LI-S545/10002/-1. It seemed very promising and I was excited to give it a whirl. However, XS Power is apparently a clown show, and they don't seem to be able to deliver batteries on time, if at all. Both times I ordered it, I kept getting updates from Jegs saying the delivery had been delayed, a couple of weeks each time. After two months last summer, I gave up and cancelled the order. When it looked like it was actually stocked by Jegs in late Oct last year I tried ordering it again. Again, delay after delay.

I finally called XS Power directly since they drop ship for Jegs and was on the receiving end of a very unprofessional and unpleasant ranting from whomever I talked to there. My battery was supposed to have been shipped as of Nov 7th. As of late December they hadn't even made it yet and weren't planning on starting production until mid-January. He got pissed at me because I actually was expecting my battery in a timely manner, not whenever they got around to building it. Meanwhile, my $300+ had been in their hands since late October. I cancelled again immediately after that conversation.

So, I'm back to square one. Are their any good similar size/weight batteries in this price range that anyone has experience with?

I run one of these in the Birkin 2.5l Duratec and also to crank the 320 cu in O-320 Lycoming in the airplane. Weighs around 4 lbs.

I paid around $150 but prices are going down.

The battery that I went through three of was a Ballistic Evo II 16. A more square dimension set-up than this one. They are out of business now, hence why the prices have gotten so low. Though, at this price it might be worth the risk again.

Croc, I don't think I showed you my Ballistic Evo 2 battery when you were here. It weighs under 3-1/2 pounds and as you can see is tiny, yet it easily starts my car after sitting outside overnight in mid 30F weather.

It replaced my PC680 (>11 lb heavier) and worked well for two years, then began showing signs of charge loss after the car had sat for a week or two. A replacement was installed 5 years ago. That battery is still working well, but I'm sure I'll be in the same boat as Supsersportsp in the near-ish future so I'm watching this thread closely.

Two batteries that have mostly good reviews are the Antigravity and the EarthX. The EarthX is a little more expensive, but from I've read could be worth it. Anyone have experience with either manufacturer? Any good or bad experience with other Lithium brands?

Thanks,

John

John - I had an Evo melt down once on the early days of the current CSR. The Odyssey batteries never have. Killed one once from my own stupidity. Yes they are heavier but still a nice small footprint that you can package easily in a seven's engine bay. Easy to get replacement through Amazon Prime.

Ouch - Earthx batteries are pricey. I guess the bonuses were good this year in Seattle!

The EarthX ETX36C is about $240 more than the PC680 (both on Amazon) and 11 lb. lighter. That's less than $22/lb savings which isn't bad compared to some other weight saving areas. Melt down is definitely a concern, but driving a se7en isn't exactly for the risk adverse :)

I was all set to jump in till I got to your price point. I have a Braille ML14C for track use, but it’s about the same cost as very nice two-day track event. :)

I like the Odyssey batteries as well as a good performance/reliability compromise, but prefer the PC625 model over the PC680. The upsides of the 625 are lighter weight and more power, with the only real downside being a more non-standard physical size. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why one would choose the PC680 over the PC625, but many do.

Best of luck, sir!

My ATX12HDRS is still sitting on the shelf. I have yet to modify my existing battery tray/straps to secure it. It's on my to-do list! haven't decided how I want to do it yet. Let me know if you beat me to it.

I'm however looking at the XPS SC-1 that I saw a friend of mine trying to utilize in his Hellcat Durango

yeah it's smaller than the batteries in my bikes lol - and much lighter of course

Indeed. It's tiny. I'm willing to try it. I will also need a new specific bracket as the existing one that works for my bike batteries won't work for this.

There are two types of mounts I've seen for this that people make

My thought was to remove the vertical risers for the tie-down strap on the stock battery tray and just attach a new strap. The new battery has a smaller footprint than the OEM battery, so I don't know if I also need to put some blocks down on the base to keep it from sliding around as well.

That's better than a 19 lbs tractor battery!
