The 420R factory mirror is flat, and it's very hard to see any vehicle on the side.

  • I am wondering what type of rearview mirror do you use on a road car (the one with windshield)? Any recommendations?
  • Do you mount it to the door, or on the side of the windshield?

Assuming we're talking about side/rear view mirrors, I have the Pitking ones (purchased at Deemon Tweeks)

https://www.demon-tweeks.com/us/pitking-products-universal-alloy-race-mirrors-pair-1097933/

I would say I'm happy enough  with them, especially for the price, however they are not convex and I would suggest looking into convex mirrors for better coverage.

Attachment to the windshield frame was easy with the included hardware as there was already a threaded hole to use.

That said, it does look very silly when I have my doors on and I have a double mirror (photo included for ridicule). Also the big OEM mirror is a lot more useful.

They prevent the doors from opening all the way as I have them installed, which is annoying too, but doesn't make it impossible to get in and out. Given then I swap between doors/no doors/wind deflectors fairly often I think I'm just going to have to live with it.

I've also occasionally had the one on the left side of my car loosen and then  flop over as it unthreads by a half turn (never at risk of actually falling off, but kind of annoying)

Just today tested out the Spa mirrors and posted another thread.  Once adjusted they are very clear and useful.  The center mirror is however revealed as subpar by how clear the Spas are.

I have the DPR side mirrors and a panoramic Mirrors for Sevens mounted on the windshield.  They all seem to work well together.  I just tried to find the Mirrors for Sevens website but could not find it.,

I always used a wink mirror for racing. I had an old one I put on the front roll cage and seems to work great. Not sure how it would be with a top up ( if I had one).

My car came with vintage SPA outside mirrors mounted to the windscreen frames. Also a “Made For 7’s” wide angle that mounts to the top of the windscreen.

The “Made For 7’s” is good but not as great as the full size Wink I had in my Europa or my dad had in his Corvair. The problem with it is that I have a very narrow view between the top of the spare and the roll bar that only shows cars close to me.

The SPA’s use two screw fasteners to mount to the frame. The dang things will not stay put! I’ve tried everything except drilling and tapping for a little set screw. I have even replaced one with a brand new unit that does the exact same thing. No matter how careful we are getting into and out of the car at some point we'll hit one with the door and it is all downhill from there. Plus at shows people are constantly hitting them when looking at the car. Worst case and it’s happened many times in the first year, is someone who knows they hit the mirror and quickly grabs it and tries to put it back in position which always make it worse.

I’ve been looking for motorcycle mirrors that I can use that would put a larger mirror further away from the body. So far no luck. All modern bikes are metric and Harley don’t make anything with a small enough mounting fastener to use the existing holes. I DO NOT want to have to drill more holes. Getting the nuts on the SPA mounts is hard enough.

When I was driving,  I had the SPA sides and mirrors for Sevens at center and found the combination of all to be useless.  I realized with no top, I had no need for them. Use the eye balls more.  I have a custom bracket the SPAs bolted to, which used a pin through the door hinges on the forward edge, and the rear edge hooked around the stanchion.  The benefit is they are easily removable.
