This came out for Miatas but I'm sure it can be used in a 7 just the same

Not cheap at nearly $600 but still cheaper than Ferrari/Lambo pricing for a similar experience in shifting

@Croc can tell us why this shifter is likely not ideal for track applications or even daily use but its certainly cool points

Given I am a competent driver I don’t see a problem with this gated shifter.

On the other hand, I have the empathy to understand why you may feel scared by this item in your car.

I've driven Ferraris with the old style shifter and never noticed it being a problem.  At least one gets to use some skill rather than telling the computer you (falsely) think you're in control.

Is there some type of rubber grommet or boot under the gated shifter. If not I would think you would get wind, rain , dirt blowing up into the cabin.

Most Ferrari drivers suffer from this.  Many se7en drivers too!

As I vaguely remember, from when I last rebuilt/refilled my Miata shift "tower" it has the leather boot, beneath that a rubberized fabric seal and then a thick rubber ring right on top of the transmission.  That was years ago (1991 Miata Special Edition #174 of 4000) but the actual opening in the vehicle's center console is much higher (3 inches?) than the gearbox itself, so I hadn't noticed any "blowby" coming into the cockpit. I think Moss Miata sells a kit for this operation that includes the two seals--not the leather cover.

When I checked my turret oil in my 420r (Miata 5 speed).  In checking online videos, mostly of Miata’s, they have a lower dust boot.  My 420 does not have this and the leather outer boot is the only thing separating the inside of the tunnel to the cockpit.  But I guess if you really wanted an open gated shifter you could figure out how to attach the lower dust boot.

I can't think of a single advantage to putting a gate on a shifter.

Passengers won’t pester you with questions about which gear you’re using…

All my passengers are silent or near silent. Possibly with fear. They only start talking when we stop.
