ATTENTION-MAJOR UPDATE FOR 2009 EVENT!!!

After much consideration and discussion among the officers of USA7s.org we regrettably are choosing to change the location and timing of the 2009 event.

 

We have looked at the situation and based on a number of factors we have chosen to have the 2009 USA7s meet in Birmingham, AL in conjunction with the 2009 LOG29 event.

 

If you look at the LOG29 schedule you will find there are numerous drives planned, there is a lap “at speed” (not some 5 mph cruise of Talladega Super Speedway), and entry into the Barber Motorsports Museum that has a collection of over 1200 motorcycles and the largest collection of Lotus race cars in the world.

 

The LOG29 committee has already planned several driving events including an autocross, car control clinics, and a Monday track day at Barber Motorsports Park (which is a track our club could never afford).

 

We did not want to make you choose a 7s only event or LOG29 in Birmingham and missing out on the great Lotus collection and the great driving events. We have elected to let you know of this decision as early as possible. USA7s.org will be forming a schedule of USA7s.org events that will be separate from LOG29 happenings and members will be free to choose which they wish to attend. (To participate in LOG29 events (including track) you will have to register for LOG.)

 

I know there will be many questions and will take time each evening to answer. My direct phone number is 205-470-0191 — leave a message if I’m not there. We plan to return to our stand alone event in 2011.

 

So the new 2009 event announcement—

 

The club officers have decided to run the 2009 USA7s.org national meet the weekend of May 28-June 1, 2009. The event will taking place in Birmingham, AL. The Winfrey Hotel will be the host hotel. Many events will take place at Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum and Barber Motorsports Park. During the event weekend there will a NASA sanctioned event at Barber Motorsports Park, there also will be a large car show that will include the Lotus Concours (200 cars expected), the Concours for the Mercedes-Benz National, and the 300-400 of the region’s best cars at the 1st Barber Sportscar Classic. A no-brainer in many ways: Why reinvent the wheel when LOG 29 exists to serve as a host? Also, LOG 29 and the Birkin/Texas event, were sure to pull participants from the USA7s gathering anyhow. If you can't beat them, join them. Finally, the track day event is right there, not 3 hours away.

 

Downsides: folks may have other plans for that weekend at this point. And the location isn't especially central.

 

Still, a logical decision (IMHO). And I apreciate the effort all of you event-planers are putting into this.

Yeah, I was torn about going to the LOG29 and not going to the USA7s event, but the extra couple of days towing to and from the track event was a turn off for me. This is good news IMO. I just booked my hotel reservations. Looking forward to seeing you guys. :party: Tom

I think its a great move. It works well for me as I am already signed up for LOG29 and this will save me a second trip for Se7en events this summer.

 

The weekend before is the 20th anniversary celebration of the Miata in Dallas and I plan to do that one on the same trip.

Great news! I was wondering how I was going to attend two separate events a month apart, when I was going to have to travel similar distances. I think it's a great move to consolidate the two! :)

Good work!!! This will give those who were concerned about attending a LOG with LSIS and Clones an excellent opportunity to experience the flavor and friendliness of the Lotus Owner's Gatherings. As an attendee of LOG 25 and an event coordinator member for LOG 29 with my Stalker, I can attest that the participants with all varieties of Se7en type cars will have fun and well accepted.

 

Even though LOG 28 in Indy had a good turn out for Sevens, I had hoped for more. This will be a good event with lots of opportunities to make some new friends and get re-acquainted with old friends.

This certainly makes it easier for me to attend. I really hope it doesnt add to much distance for anyone else.

 

 

imho, the Barber Motorsports Museum is a great place to visit (especially with a great tour guide, ;) ) and the track is beautiful. I'm very excited!

750 miles to both Branson OR Birmingham for us. LOG schedule looks hectic; need two or three of me to do it all.

Like the track location a lot better. Suppose I better get my reservationing taken care of pronto.

Nah, not a big problem. I suspect I was anyway the only participant crazy enough planning to drive from the West Coast. And for you guys it just makes more sense. Would have been nice to finally meat you Easterners in person, though.

 

I will probably then drive up to Wyoming and do some of the other discussed route instead. Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain NP isn't that bad, after all. Kind of mini Se7ens tour, just the Se7en, my wife and I ;)

I am glad to hear the overwhelming positive response to this change. to be honest I was worried. I have spent the weekend working on schedules and some planning. Mazda, Al and I still need to set some things up but should have a schedule of USA7s things planned. For the racers there could be up to 4 days track time avail. For the casual racers or adventurous the car control clinic with wet and dry skid pad time might be fun. Oh and still unsure but we may get the long course at the autoX which is well much longer than normal.

 

I know Lotus Ltd does not have their registration form up yet should be by mid next week. But to take full advantage of the weekend please look at joining Lotus Ltd. and registering for LOG. I know this will add a few dollars but will allow us to do many things that USA7s could never afford. (Heck the track rents for over $12K a day plus corner workers and ambulance) USA7s will be taking those costs into account. The addtional is whatever is saved by piggybacking can be carried over to 2011 or the smaller regional functions.

 

If you could please email me offlist with anythings on the LOG schedule that you really want to do, things not on the list that USA7s may be able to do, and most importantly if your reason for coming to LOG is because of LOG or the USA7s meet.

 

Oh and as I posted many months ago when annoucing LOG29, if the Sevens out number Elises I will give every member ONE whole dollar!

 

Finally if the move is making the trip look to far please look at air travel to either Birmingham, Atlanta (2hrs), or Huntsville (90 minutes). You may not have your car but you can still experince everything.

That's a pretty safe bet, Elises outnumbered Se7ens by about 3 - 1 at LOG27. It looked like there were more Elises and their permutations than any other model. But we can hope that adding our contingent will make it more even.

i would just like to reiterate the desire for a stand alone usa7s 2011 meet. while combining the weekend w/ LOG 29 makes sense in the economic and summer time frames this year., I would like to see the plans for Branson only shelved and not binned.:yesnod:

What windshield will depend if I have a roof, if so I will need the too short for use roll bar. Then the question of tires. I still remember the drive to and from Carlisle floating and down the roads. The smart thing is tow. The adventure is to drive.

I can hardly sleep at night thinking about being on the course at Barber !!!!

If all goes well Loren and I will both have cars there..... I just hope I can keep up with him.
