Due to woeful neglect of the battery (left in car all winter), it took some TLC in the form of topping up the cells and putting a charge on it. Happily, the battery appears to be okay. Went for a brief drive for the purpose of warming up the oil prior to changing it which was fabulous, though of limited duration due to the desire to get the oil change out of the way. However, upon crawling under the car to unscrew the filter I noticed this. Ouch!!!! Didn't happen on today's drive, but I'm not sure when it did. I did have one incident last year where I bottomed the car fairly hard at a big dip in a back road. It was a get out and look for a pool of oil behind the car affair. i guess I must not have looked at the oil pan itself afterward, though. So, I guess a new pan is in order!

Croc Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) Nice dent - it was lucky no major harm was done. Jack (jlbtrans1) and myself also got out this weekend for a blat. Jack just got his car through registration this week so was keen to hit the road. We just went touring around the backroads of north west NJ and over the border into NY ending up at Warwick for lunch. Jack's daughter came along for the ride and loved it! Naturally the cars got a lot of attention helped by Jack deciding to park outside the main street Girl Guide Cookie stand! Just doing our bit for the community! As we parted I, Jack's daughter was eyeing her chances to get behind the wheel and drive the Seven herself - what spirit! Edited March 15, 2009 by Croc

Croc - Did you buy the 1999 Caterham from Bill R. down in Fla? I had been in touch with him and I thought that was a real nice car at a good price. Spent Saturday doing electrical work on the house that will let me use my TIG to finish my radiator brackets. The fenders (wings) are at a body shop to be fixed and resprayed, and I talked to Dennis Hedges about a new windshield. Don't know if I'll make LOG in Birmingham in May, but I'm tryin'

While I had looked at it last year and passed on it, Jack ended buying it recently when the owner decided to negotiate price. So the side picture Bruce put up is the same car. Kitcat Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Yesterday must have been the semi-official USA7S First Blat day. I too took my Seven out for its first spin of the season. Thanks to the Griot's Garage battery tender that I got for X-mas, it cranked hard and eventually, and reluctantly, fired up. Ran great after a bit of warming. I looked down at one point and saw I was doing 80 on a city street. OK, a little too much pent up exuberance. Will Sevens on the street become like daffodils: an early sign of Spring?
KiwiBirkin Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Were coming to the end of our summer here in NZ, we have about 8 weeks before the snow hits the skifields but there will be plenty of driving days yet , mind you we do get some really nice winter days here and I plan on taking advantage of them with the polyprops on. I really enjoy seeing pics of members sevens out and about so keep them coming, it will make the winter go faster.

That's fabulous! Skip, it's true I probably don't need to replace the pan immediately as it doesn't seem to be obstructing the pick-up or anything, I guess it would just be piece of mind. It does tempt me to take the opportunity to put in a dry sump.
