At 11AM EST I took possession of my 1996 Caterham. I immediately threw a plate on it to go for a ride. OMFG!!! Now I understand the reason for the level of passion in the posts I've been reading. I get it and now I've got one!

Yeah, your face will hurt from smiling so much for a while. Now spill the beans, whats on the other side of the mustang? Is it a Triumph Stag perhaps?

Sean, it will still be fun to drive, but your new understanding of acceleration and handling will make it feel a little dated. I've always liked the looks of the TR6's. Something about those big redline tires.

Welcome to the world of Se7ening. Just remember to get the wheels straight before you punch it, or you will be doing donuts before you can blink.

Congratulations - she looks a nice car! Perfect timing - plenty of summer left to enjoy. Are you ready to start buying upgrades?

I think you get a nomination for garage of the month award. I would love one like that....with a hoist too!

The car looks brand new! Don't worry about punching it with the wheels turned: one of the fun things about our modestly powered Crossflow Se7ens is the ability to drive flat-out so much of the time.

Hmmm.... a x-flow Caterham and a Bullitt Mustang.... a man after my own heart !

how on earth are you going to decide each morning ??????????????

Sean,

Nice car, enjoy it for a while then start to upgrade it. Great garage, and I would

like to know alittle about your BMW motorbike.

Welcome to the 7 world, you'll never be the same!!!! LOL

The bike is a 1965 BMW R50/2 with the Earls Fork. The Earls Fork just means it is the Euro version set up to receive a sidecar. I've a funny feeling the bike is going to be sitting a lot more than its used to.

Nice garage Sean L. Hmm a ....TR6....Mustang.....BMW Motorcycle....Bronco (outside)....Caterham....Astom Martin....four post lift (what is above the TR6)....Must be nice, very nice indeed. :driving:

That's a Scout outside. The Bronco is on the lift :) and the 71 Mini is with me at the beach in RI :) As for a morning blat - I have a repair plate I can put on the car now. The state can wait - I can't!

So, the guy you bought this from claimed this was God's own Cross-flow in the car. Curious as to what you think of it? Have you driven any other cross-flow Caterhams?

How is the driveability?

Posted

My experience with Caterhams is limited so this opinion is from a relative novice. The car is little rough at low rpms but as it get going it smooths right out and then, man does it fly. I do know a little about speed and I'm impressed. I don't know if all cross flows run like this so I can't say for sure this is God's own or not. Right now it's Sean's own. When I figure how to keep the rear end in line I'll bet the driveability will be just fine.

Keeping the rear end out of line is the most fun you can have in a seven, glad to see you enjoyed your first blat.

So, is no one going to mention the Aston Martin... flipping between the pics it's almost like the AM is a modern version of the Bullitt. Well, I think so!
