Great fall weather

Hate to rub it in again, but it's been another spectacular day here in Philly. Weather is sunny and 68F. With the leaves just starting to turn yellow and orange. Not too many leaves on the road yet, However those big round green things? that some trees have as seeds? are starting to fall and that can be dangerous. They are hard and about the size of a plum. Anyone know what they are or what kind of tree it is?

Had the Caterham out for about an hour and a half of nice, traffic free blatting. Not many cars out, did have a black viper wave going the other way and another guy gave me a thumbs up as I went past.

The cars is running great, and it never ceases to amaze me at how quick it is and how effortlessly it handles. Did a couple of brief accelleration runs from 5 to 60 or so and the sound as it passes 5k rpm is just awesome.

Hope to get a few more days like this before it gets colder.

Anyone else get out today?

Tom

It's 5 -10 degrees chillier in Reading. I just got back from a fake Atom blat and am still warming my hands. Time for warm gloves. Still a great day. I smell my Yoko R888's immediately after working them in a turn. That's instant gratification.

Got big smiles and waves from the Amish/Mennonite girls on their bicycles.

The Harley riders waved me through when I got in the middle of their small grop at a stop sign. They made the right decision. They weren't riding my pace.

Those green things are black walnuts. Some fall naturally from the trees, but the squirrels also drop them on the road so you de-husk them with your car. They do the rest with the inner shell.

I also got out for a drive for a couple of hours. I decided to head north on the Palisades Parkway towards Bear Mountain, West Point, Storm King and then a double back across Route 6 to Central Valley and Newburgh NY. About 60 degrees - little fresh - but beautiful sunshine. Some pics:

Just in case anyone wants to note - I did put the phone down as my inspection sticker wants me to do! It never said anything about camera.

I now have a nice shiny red face - some light sunburn to wear around for a while!

No drivin' for me today. Decided to disassemble the Jag rear to get rid of the parts of it I won't be using. Hopefully will get new glass for the windshield and have the hood secured by next week... it almost looks like a car now :)

Yup, Out last night to the last car show of the season for me, not to cold.

This morning Betsy and I drove over to New Hope Pa., for breakfast . The local BMW bike guys meet there, and always have a good show of all things BMW. The weather was in the 50's when we left our house at 8:00 am, no top, she was alittle chilled, I like this kind of temp. There are still some great weeks to come.

Tom , I am in for Thanksgiving morning's Blat !!!!! Steve

Just to explain, a local car club has a Thanksgiving car meet from 7am to noon. Everything from horseless carrige brass era cars, Hotrods, musclecars, Old Bentley's,Jags, etc. All levels of fit and finish from primer to concour level. No real order, all just parked as they arrive. Guys just getting out of the house while the cooking is happening. Attracts quite a crowd. A bag of canned goods is the price of admission.

A pretty cool event.

Here's a couple pics from last year.

The St. Louis Lotus club (STALLS) had it's annual Wine Run yesterday. Weather was great, drive was better. Ended up at the tail of the group, and after each stop sign would have to rush to catch up. :)

Pictures posted on the Lotus Talk site here:

Shot of my Seven is towards the bottom.

Steve-your 7 is looking good. You obviously spent some quality time with your can of aluminum polish!

Are the red cars in and near your photo Loti? They have a distinct Ferrari/NSX look tho may be Espirits.

Mike - You're correct, Ferrari 308 and an NSX. We had 2 Esprits, 6-8 Elise/Exige, my Seven, the Westfield 11, 2 MG Midgets, 1 MGB, and at least at the beginning a Ferrari 599. We're an equal opportunity club. :)

I've been out all weekend .. to two shows on Saturday and out again just driving on Sunday .. now the SE is wet again! We got another 3" of rain today!

Rob

I drove through that nasty front twice, once on the way to Roanoke and again on the way back. It was nice in Roanoke for the few hours we were there and loading the car and kit but about half way back up the W. Virginia Turnpike the rain hit with a vengeance.

We didn't see much good Fall weather the whole 5 days. For a major portion of the trip we couldn't see anything more than 100' in front of us, often much less.

Nancy and I took the Birkin for a drive up to Mt Equinox, Vermont over the weekend. We left home at 5:45am on Sunday morning with the hope of getting to Mt Equinox at 9am when it opens. There was very minimal traffic so we made great time, but it was in the 30's when we left so with no top or heater it was REALLY cold...I even stopped for something warm to drink which I never do! Arrived at the entrance to Mt Equinox a little after 9am and spent a couple hours driving up and down the mountain and sightseeing at the various lookouts along the way. It's really a neat drive with some really tight 2nd gear hairpins and some beautifull views of the surrounding mountains. The summit was clouded over and really windy, but the rest of the drive was spectacular, if a little bumpy in spots. :driving:

Here's some info on Mt Equinox: http://www.equinoxmountain.com/skylinedrive/index.htm

Went north from there up to Manchester Center where we ran into our first traffic of the trip. :banghead: At least the sun was out so it was starting to warm up. Stopped at an empty fairgrounds and had a nice picnic lunch and took a few photos of the Birkin. Spent the next few hours driving some nice backroads on the way home. All told we were gone for about 9 hours and did about 325 miles. That's the most we've done in one day and reminds me we have to do something about the stock Birkin seats!

Here's a few pics from the trip:
